Incident in Water St Liverpool

It’s horrible. Cars being used as weapons seems to be a trend. I hope it doesn’t stop street celebrations from happening. Christmas markets have been targeted too (and nobody needs to read anything into that🙄) as well as concerts and any large gatherings. Graduation ceremonies now have very high levels of security too.

Anything that involves large numbers of unsuspecting people is becoming risky. It’s a bit like school shootings in the US - very difficult to police as it’s so random.

Footage being shared instantly is a fact of life now, sharing information to family and friends, not voyeurism at all. Anyone from Liverpool, wherever they live now, is part of the Liverpool family and footage does not need the many words needed to try and describe the situation

Well, that’s obviously your opinion Karmalady; after all you were one of the first on this thread to say you had seen the whole footage!

I’m glad I don’t exist in that murky world of sharing and / or watching footage of tragic events online, virtually as soon as they’ve happened. I do consider it voyeurism.

Why would someone who is ‘part of the Liverpool family’ want to view fellow humans being mown down by a car just because it happened in Liverpool?

The police specifically requested that people do not share footage online, but send any footage to them, as it’s footage of a potential crime, not something to be gawped at by all and sundry.

I'm referring to official reports not comments on this forum.

Of course it’s voyeurism. Why would anyone want to watch something like that? At least leave the victims with some dignity. If (heaven forbid) a loved one of mine were hurt ir killed it would sicken me to think that people were watching footage of their suffering and passing it around on social media.

It's being broadcast on both the BBC and Sky.

It does appear from the news (mind you it was in the Mail, so who knows?) that the driver was trying to negotiate through the crowds, the crowd rightly weren't too happy and he just lost it and rammed anyone in his way. I'm sure we will hear more today of what actually happened.

Report the facts. Leave analysis of the footage (aka evidence) to the police.

I am not sure about that. I dont know what I think about it to be honest. I think it is important for people to 'see' terrible events. We, for example saw live footage of September 11th (I am not comparing these events, I know this is not terrorism) but that was important in understanding the horror. As I say I am not sure what I think.

My GS, who was at the parade, said it has cast a shadow over a great day for fans. He had been in Water Street but thankfully had left the area to go for his train home.

I find television news very difficult to watch and generally prefer the radio.

However there is a nagging feeling that somehow we ought to see the awful scenes to feel empathy with those suffering.

I accept I’m probably an outlier here. I’m not on any other SM apart from GN, and have no desire to be.

I find it difficult to get into the head of someone who witnesses a tragic event, films it on their phone … and then immediately uploads it to SM🤷‍♀️

As I say, I know I’m probably in the minority, and I’m fine with that.

There’s lots of speculation going on. A medical incident like a heart attack; drunk driver in a pedestrian area; a rival fan although that seems unlikely; the driver panicked when the fans surged towards him so put his foot down to try to escape …..

Whatever, until the police make a statement speculation will continue. These days young people automatically reach for their phones and record everything.

Liziedrip, I agree with you. It is as though people have been desensitised to the horror of what is happening now, type thing. Even on facebook there seems to be even a low level element of people 'shaming' others, posting videos of their ring doorbell footage to catch whoever - usually people drunkenly walking down the street/not picking up dog poo/parking badly/little kids just playing happily. Get a life. Either speak to that person directly and ask them to do something about or just keep your trap shut. I really, really dislike it. If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

This is an awful even though. I hope all recover. The police must have been put under so much pressure this weekend in Liverpool, what with the BBC big weekend as well

The sharing of footage takes away the privacy of those involved. It also creates a situation where the victims and their families and friends are at risk of being exposed to the images potentially repeatedly.

I understand football, my family were at another celebration for a different club this weekend, but do they shut off the roads for the procession, or is that just impossible. Is it through all the main areas of the city and therefore wouldn't be possible to shut the roads down?

Whether you like it or not, posting things like this to social media is reality now. You can choose to try to avoid things like this as much as possible if that's what you want to do, but the genie is well and truly out of the bottle now. I'm not condoning it, but how do you stop it? You can't. That's the simple fact.

None of my family, siblings and friends are speculating nor endlessly discussing. The footage was taken and immediately sent to us and now we know the facts, apart from the thoughts of the driver. None of it went onto universal outlets such as facebook or youtube or X

That to me is the moral high ground, the facts, no whitewashing by government or media

No close ups of any victims but a decent picture of the driver, obviously white male. No comment were added about culture, unlike a speculator on this thread who likes to pop up racism whenever possible, without knowing facts

Water Street and other roads were shut off. Nobody knows yet how the car got through the barrier.
