Women in the US been downgraded

A young lady who died from blood clots in the brain at nine weeks pregnant is being used to incubate her unborn child due to abortion laws.

Women downgraded to baby machines. This is beyond wrong to me.

Beyond shocking. Heart rending that her little boy visits her and has been told she is just sleeping.

There is every indication that her unborn baby has hydrocephalus and will therefore need special treatment and care.

Her family will be responsible for caring for the motherless boys but they had no say in any of the treatment their mother received.

So awful for her family. Will they now have to pay all the horrendously expensive medical bills? As if grief is not enough?

I haven’t read the link article but am sure that either her DH or partner or parents think what she would have wanted is the safe delivery of her baby. It’s also about saving a life, the baby.
It’s the last good thing that the poor girl can do.

I’ve my own thoughts here, but at only 9 weeks pregnant - her fetus isn’t viable and (IMO) it’s just wrong to use her body as an incubator to what is likely to be a special needs child.

Methinks, the doctors see this as an interesting challenge.
Has it ever been done before?

valdavi Sat 31-May-25 18:53:59

It's horrible & there need to be international guidelines on what is ethical in this area - just because we can do it, doesn't mean we should.

ayse Sat 31-May-25 19:09:57

This is absolutely horrific. I did not expect this. How can anyone true Christian believe that Jesus would sanction such.

I feel so sad for her family and her son who thinks she is still alive.

It's Georgia and they have draconian abortion laws so doctors can't do anything that would end the life of a foetus without risking imprisonment themselves.

sodapop Sat 31-May-25 19:22:04

Hard to believe that such laws are still being applied, women truly are downgraded.
I agree with all the points you made Magenta8 also as I understand Trump is against providing free health care for people with disabilities so where does that leave the poor family. So very sad.

OMG it's like Dr. Frankenstein shock

I feel so sorry for the family involved. What a situation. they can't properly even start to grieve the loss of the mother.

I doubt that they can properly sustain the working of the mother's uterus and other necessary functions long enough to bring the baby to a viable birth. Plus, many babies are lost naturally before the end of the first trimester. That could still happen. Would the doctor's then potentially face charges? It would, I think, be difficult to prove if it had been a "lack of care" or natural at that early stage.

This article and post is not even the number one thought on GN. However, I think it should be.

This is a violation of the female body.

It is not okay for a government to take over in this circumstance. Damn you all poor lady, husband, child, baby and mother

Nine weeks? At that age, it has not even developed as a boy or girl and is th size of an acorn. Probably has not even grown legs yet.

Welcome to Gilead.

A Texas police officer used License plate cameras nationwide to find a woman who may have been seeking to leave Texas for an abortion. The Sheriff says that they were using the cameras to locate her because her family thought she might be bleeding to death and wanted to get her medical treatment.

That may be the case now, but once it is done one time, it will be used over and over again. And next time it will be to locate women who are seeking abortion.

I.disagree Oreo. The.mother should have been allowed to die with the feotus. It is nature-made, natural, non-medical, void of useless nonsensical manly intervention

Macadia Sat 31-May-25 23:26:15

Once it is done one time?

How do you know that men will not be using corpses to populate the planet against the will of women?

OldFrill Sat 31-May-25 23:43:00

Adriana Smith died in February but will be kept on life death support until August. The family had no input into the decision to keep Adriana on life death support, Adriana's mother, April Newkirk, said the family would have liked to have been at least included in the decision making process. Meantime the family are desperately trying to raise funds, it's not clear if they have to pay for the current life death support and subsequent caesarian or not.
It's not clear, but it seems there would be no legal repercussions had the hospital let Adriana and her son die naturally. The law doesn't seem to state that a corpse has to be an incubator. The hospital have not explained their decision making process.
There's a GoFundMe.

How can a foetus survive if the mother is receiving no nourishment and is dead? They must be ‘feeding’ the baby in some way. It really beggars belief and if a child is born how will this affect he or she growing up, knowing these circumstances? It is like a horror film.

Doodledog Sat 31-May-25 23:57:52

There are no words, are there?

A few years ago, women started saying that our rights were being rolled back. We stopped being a sex in our own right and became a 'gender' that when could opt into, so there was nowhere we could go to be on our own as a sex, and no point in having separate categories in areas where being male is an advantage. Equality laws were seen as disadvantageous to men. Women started abusing other women who spoke up about sex abuse and other forms of misogyny. Victims of rape were seen as grasping if their rapists were rich/famous.

Did anyone think it would get as far as it has, though?

I really despair for future generations of women. At my age (66) I am grateful to have lived most of my life in a time when there was very definitely sexism and women were disadvantaged (particularly in my younger days) but not outright misogyny that is legally sanctioned in so many parts of the world. I always assumed that my daughter and any future granddaughters would have a better time than I did, but I seriously doubt it now.

We have to fight to stop it coming here, and Reform will absolutely bring this sort of thing if it gets a chance.

Doodledog Sat 31-May-25 23:58:53

'when' should read 'men' in my post🙄. Autocarrot has a mind of its own, doesn't it?

Wyllow3 Sun 01-Jun-25 00:09:06

In the article her mother has spoken

It’s torture for me,” her mother, April Newkirk, told 11Alive. “I see my daughter breathing, but she’s not there

It also occurs should family members make comments on the law they may face charges. They aren't free to speak up against the actual ruling. They may be forced to care for a very sick child who might not live long.

It is appalling, horrifying, Gilead, monstrous, experimenting.

As Imaround says, it may be used again and again.
