Israel attack on Iran

This is a serious situation. Netanyahu has gone against advice from the US and has attacked Iran.
Iran will retaliate and Israel has closed down today waiting for the attack.
Although the US has distanced itself from this only warning Iran not to target US bases it's inevitable that they may get pulled into this war.

Yes, but they're barely out of their teens when they join up. And haven't you seen those exciting ads, to entice them?

lafergar Fri 20-Jun-25 16:18:29

I suppose when you join the armed forces, you are aware of what may lie ahead of you.
I'm sorry I don't buy this " King and Country " thing.
They go where they are told and do what they need to.
That's how it works I think?

Sorry for any families worrying.

Just as an aside I think that Palestinian Action - ridiculous damage to RAF fighter jets is both self defeating and a risk to our security.

Are they really that thick?
(Answers on a postcard.)

The RAF was delivering aid to Gaza and would again as soon as they are allowed to do so.

Stupid, stupid people.

The Palestinian group thought that the aircraft were being used to aid Israel by refuelling but they don't do that so they have made a mistake and hopefully will be caught.

Some heads will roll for this…

Very embarrassing for RAF police, too busy in the mess hall I expect, no excuses in these tense circumstances.

Agreed. Really does not help at all!

Just listening to Aljazeera, which is describing the missiles from both protagonists going over countries that are not involved.

I’m not sure that I would be happy. Jordan alone said that it has been hit over 100 times with missiles or pieces of missiles that have gone wrong from both sides. Children have been hit and are now in hospital apparently.

I would refuse them both air space if it was possible.

(I’m not being lazy but my back is bad and I’m doing a bit resting a bit etc😊)

I agree with others on this thread. Israel started this war and if the USA wants to assist them that's up to them, but this is not a war we should even consider being a part of.

Hear, hear👏👏👏

Maybe you are so judgemental

Mm, judgemental🤔

If Iran have reinforced the bomb area well then the bunker buster will not destroy it.
I wonder how much money one of these bunker busters costs and personnel to use it? I don't think many in the US expected this.

This is of course a bomb area which the say they don’t have, presumably secret surveillance (Mossad) knows it exists.
Anything that has been built can be destroyed. The bomb is no more complex than any guided munitions that the US uses but does weigh 13 tons so only the B2 bomber can deploy it. Will they fly from Diego Garcia?, maybe but they don’t need to, the B2 has global reach from the US.

I certainly hope so Whitewave as Israel started this war they should be left to fight it without aid from other countries.
I wouldn't want our military losing their lives for the sake of Israel. They don't deserve help in attacking another country.

‘losing their lives for the sake of Israel ‘ !

Do you have grandsons of conscription age? I do, and I certainly would not wish for any of them being forced to fight for any war, but massively more so for a war not of our making, that another country started. Netanyahu has been on the war footing against Iran since 1995- threatening imminent access to Nuclear arms. Be it Israel, or anyother country that goes and starts a war wihout our approval.

I would not wish for them to have to go and fight in Ukraine- but I would find it perhaps somewhat 'easier'- because Russia attacked it, and because it it right over our European border, putting us all in the direct next line.

I think there are doubts about the effectiveness of the bunker buster bombs and that will give Mr Trump pause.

I can’t stand Starmer as a PM, as many will know but I wouldn’t resort to name calling because I actually think on a personal level he is a nice person. Believe it or not. Just so those accusing me of name calling know.

Yet you called him ‘stupid’!

You can be stupid and nice, can’t you .Maybe you are so judgemental you can’t in your circle. Meanwhile, back to the matter in hand, Iran is not at all like Iraq. They are very well educated and advanced whether or not you agree with their leadership . I really wouldn’t underestimate them if I were Trump. They are a land of exquisite poetry and song.

CariadAgain Fri 20-Jun-25 09:48:19

Meanwhile - on "reasons" for war - I gather Iran said pretty recently (2023) that they have 8.5 million tons of lithium on their land (ie the 2nd largest stash in the world).

Has anyone any info. on that topic? - as it obviously gives the money-grubbers of this world (eg Trump) an extra little reason to go in there...

“Dozens more Palestinians were killed or injured in Gaza as they sought desperately needed aid on Thursday, with reports that Israeli forces close to one distribution point had opened fire, the third such incident in as many days.

More than a hundred people have been reported killed since Monday while either trying to reach aid points or waiting to stop and offload the limited number of UN and commercial trucks entering the devastated territory. There have been about 20 such incidents in the last four weeks.

Gaza’s civil defence agency said Israeli fire killed 15 people and wounded 60 between the town of Nuseirat and in the centre of Gaza early on Thursday morning after thousands had gathered in the hope of receiving rations”

Yes, GG13, youngsters may chose to join the armed forces but unfortunately it isn't they who chose which war.

Maremia Fri 20-Jun-25 09:41:15

Once bitten, twice shy? We have already jumped to the 'weapons of mass destruction' call to arms.

Maremia Fri 20-Jun-25 09:39:35

Perhaps there will be 2 weeks grace, while chess pieces are moved into place and warmongers vie for Trump's ear.
Meanwhile, yes more Palestinians slaughtered in the past 24 hours as they try to get aid.

AGAA4 Fri 20-Jun-25 09:38:34

I have great admiration for our armed forces who will give their lives for "king and country" but aiding Israel in this attack on Iran with unproven claims of nuclear weapons?
No.

The ghost of the 'Special Relationship' myth will be invoked again.

Allie! Not a. Not sure what happened there.
