Terrifying.

This is just so so dangerous - I feel sick and truly worried.

The whole world will not HAVE TO TAKE SIDES and the rest will be

history, if we are lucky. The most stupid act of sheer aggression ever, in a part of the world which is already just on the brink. Netanyahu is a sick, mad man.

This has got the potential to get really serious, it is in effect a declaration of war, it remains to be seen if Israel can be stopped by the US from escalating further. This is the very last thing Trump wanted, oil and gas exports from the gulf are going to be seriously affected which will trigger a new energy crisis.

Israel believes that Iran is very close to producing a nuclear bomb and have taken action to stop them, how far are they willing to go to achieve that?.

Israelis have been told to stay at home. Schools are closed. They are expecting a strong retaliation from Iran.
The US will have to defend Israel which is something Trump is against as he told Netanyahu not to go ahead with the attack before peace talks which were due soon.

David49 Apparently the bomb Iran is making is buried deep underground and would be difficult to destroy. Israel have killed six of the scientists working on the bomb which would delay the process

You are right it is mad men who create all the hostility. Israel had a chance for peace talks but would rather wage war.

It’s a terrifying situation. The world is full of power crazed madness at the moment.

Iran is not nearly so poweful as people think. I'm not sure they can sustain a war with Israel and of course, so many innocent people under threat.

It is disgusting that Israel keeps going against everything we believe is moral and just, and getting away with it.

Of course, you can't take the US out of the equation for all the support they have offered...

I dont think it was in anyway necessary just now. It almost feels that N is taking a dangerous leaf out of the Trump handbook - create chaos and war!

Iran has been recognised as a substantial force and can do a lot of damage to Israel. Trump has said he will only intervene if US bases are targeted by Iran.
I am sorry for the Israeli people who will be damaged by this war caused by their own government.

It doesn't need to be Israel that does this tho? surely its a decision for international discussion and action? Better for world stability, it needs to be thought through not precipitate.

Yes, were it the UK, I'd want backing from other interested parties! Too high risk for the citizens of Israel, who surely have enough on their "worries" list?

However maybe Netanyahu is doing it to keep attention away from what is happening Gaza.

This thread feels quite surreal….. Israel had given 60 days of discussion with the USA before striking on the 61st. With friends like the Uk and the USA, Israel is more than perfectly justified in protecting itself against Iran and this move will be welcomed by Sunni countries too.

Who would support Israel ?

Iran getting nuclear weapons is a threat to many countries, it has been a concern for a long time.

What Trump does/doesnt do is key, but international concern is very long term.

Netanyahu is poking the bear, very unwise. Iran is not as isolated as we seem to be implying, not at all. Russia, some middle east countries, Syria of course, and for goodness sake, China!

What Israel and the US really want is regime change in Iran and an end to the nuclear programme, fundamentalist Iran has been funding terrorists groups for many years in many countries, attacking western governments especially Israel, a change in regime would stop all that.

How far would Israel go to achieve that, possibly attack the nuclear power station causing a Chernobyl style radioactive zone killing tens of thousands. Maybe even a direct nuclear attack, there is a precedent, that’s exactly what the US did in Japan
