I don’t see how Iran can be stopped from either buying in nuclear weapons or developing its own. I would much rather a world where faiths could work out their differences without bombing the hell out of each other.

Agreed ronib. That’s where I want to live too.

It looks like Iran have broken the ceasefire agreement according to Israel.

Absolutely 100%

Ronib, that would be the world for me.

Trump's 'War Cabinet' now consists only of people completely loyal to him.
In May, he fired his national security advisor Mike Waltz, dismissed half of the professionals at the National Security Council'
Told reporters that Gabbard, who had managed the inspection, was 'wrong' about the Iranian enrichment status.
He is now being 'advised' by people with no deep knowledge of Iran or the Middle East, for example JD Vance, Marco Rubio, Suzie Wiles, Stephen Miller, Steve Witkoff, a real estate developer, and the 'WAR ROOMS' podcaster Steve Bannon, released last year after being jailed for fraud.
He will be hearing only what he wants to hear.

The conclusion to the above article

'But the underlying assumption for U.S. policymakers—tinged, it has to be said, with Islamophobia and anti-Arab racism—has been that Israelis are responsible stewards of the bomb, in a way that Egyptians or Jordanians, or most of all Iranians, would not be. The problem is, when we look at Israel’s actions and not its words, there’s a strong case to doubt that assessment—and the situation has gotten dramatically worse in the last few years. '

If Iran is not allowed nuclear arms, why on earth should Israel?

According to estimates by the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation, published recently in the New York Times, Israel has “at least 90 [nuclear] warheads and enough fissile material to produce up to hundreds more.” President Jimmy Carter, who was in a position to know, said in 2014 that he believed the number is closer to “300 or more, nobody knows exactly how many.” In either case, this is more nukes than another country we’re routinely told to be terrified of: North Korea, which the Center estimates possesses “20 to 30  possibly assembled warheads.” These Israeli warheads can be delivered in a variety of ways, including by U.S.-made fighter jets, by German-made “Dolphin” submarines, and by a variety of missiles—including the Jericho 3, an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) that came online in 2011. Describing the early tests of this missile, Isaac Ben-Israel—who was both a scientist, a retired IDF general, and a member of the Knesset at the time—said in 2008 that “everybody can do the math and understand… that we can reach with a rocket engine to every point in the world.” If that’s not a thinly veiled threat, nothing is.

Given the deep theological differences between Israel and Iran, and embedded hatred, has the fight been suspended for a while only to start up again? Iran will continue its pursuit of nuclear weapons and the USA will always have the capacity to out bomb. And so it continues.

Iran wants to kill all Jews

Looks like mission accomplished by Israel and the US 😃

You have no idea!

What and who is to stop Trump doing what he pleases?

I am not at all getting the role of the Republicans in the US currently.

nanna8 have you read the book ‘OnThe Beach’? It made a huge impression on me when I was about 15 and now I look at what is going on and hope Mr. Shute didn’t have a crystal ball.

I don’t like Trump anymore than some of the world’s other leaders but I think referring to him as a tangerine toddler is just plain rude and says more about the writer than the one written about. The US is the only country in the world that has actually used nuclear bombs and that is what worries me the most - they have a history of obliterating places, not just once, but twice. Dangerous situation.

How, exactly, is Iran able to retaliate? Why is the situation so worrying? I don't quite get it.

If Trump has incapacitated any nuclear weapons the Iranians might have had, what have they got left? Some missiles which might not have the ability to reach America?

Please somebody explain why the situation is so dangerous.

Because The Tangerine Toddler has access to and probably has his finger on the button of nuclear weapons. Do you really want WW3. The man is a danger to the rest of the world and a lot of US citizens can't see further than the ends of their noses.

This thread is very confusing , two old men causing mayhem,
Churchill stood down as PM age 80 .

Whitewavemark2 Tue 24-Jun-25 02:47:12

Must say the situation is very confused.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 24-Jun-25 02:43:30

If Israel agrees - and that is the sticking point - then we are back from the brink

Over to you Netanyahu.

He won’t like that though.

Bea65 Tue 24-Jun-25 01:57:43

Iran confirms they have agreed to ceasefire with Israel …🙏

Thinking of you Mt61, this is so hard for those who have family in the region, or indeed far away.

Thanks Claremont- heard from them tonight, all safe 🙏 I think it was a “tit, for tat” thing going on. Main thing, no body was hurt as far as I know.

OldFrill Tue 24-Jun-25 00:29:35

Re Trump Truth Social - abridged version -
All's well, all's forgiven, Iran and Israel having a ceasefire and everyone's friends.

Iran and Israel haven't, as far as l know, responded.

Has this given a "Green Light" to China to invade Taiwan?

I thought China had just threatened Iran?
