Oh Lordy, what now …this is scary news and now what happens..

LizzieDrip Sun 22-Jun-25 11:03:17

Why would we believe anything that Trump and Netanyahu say?

They are both liars; the world has evidence of their past lies. Neither of them will have suddenly developed a moral compass. They are not to be trusted!

The UK absolutely should not become embroiled in this potential sh** show.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 22-Jun-25 10:59:43

Apparently there has been no detection of a rise in radiation. Whether that means that Trump was unsuccessful I don’t know.

Maremia Sun 22-Jun-25 10:55:07

No proof yet, if there ever can be, that the facilities are totally obliterated. No proof, now or ever, that they were preparing bombs.
Iran claims to have moved the materials in anticipation. Have no idea if this is logistically possible in the space of what was it, 9 days.
Hope we don't find out too soon what was in those multiple Chinese flights into Iran.
Russia owes Iran for those Ukraine bombing drones.
No idea if North Korea will want to 'participate'.

keepingquiet Sun 22-Jun-25 10:55:03

Should have been WMD but maybe it was a Freudian slip!

keepingquiet Sun 22-Jun-25 10:54:11

A very dangerous game is being played here. The Islamic Revolution happened in Iran due to American interference holding up the corrupt government.
Even though most right-thinking Iranians hate the present regime this is not the solution and seems to be Iraq and the WND debacle all over again.
Also Afghanistan is now worse off than it was before the invasion.
What is the end game here? I don't think Trump has one.
Will it put an end to Putin's plans? Maybe.
Will it bring regime change in Iran? Maybe.
Will it make Israel more secure? Probably not.
Will it make the ME even more unstable? Yes
Will it make us more open to terrorist attacks? Almost certainly.
Risky undertakings rarely bring stability- this is not a good time to be on planet Earth...
The US has to be isolated and new alliances formed- I am very disappointed in Starmer and I very much hope that I'm wrong.

Smileless2012 Sun 22-Jun-25 10:43:22

JenniferEccles those bombs can reach depths of 60 meters but the sites are 90 meters deep so they can't have successfully obliterated them.

AGAA4 Sun 22-Jun-25 10:27:21

Iran is a danger to the UK. It is already active here threatening the lives of journalists. We weren't involved in the attacks but Iranians here could retaliate as we are an ally of the US.
I think Starmer was asking for Iran to negotiate. Starmer was told of the attack by Trump before it happened.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 22-Jun-25 10:24:26

So takeaway from TRIP.

Trump has no strategy. That he operates on the need to be constantly in the public eye. So given that and the need to invent ever more incidents where he is the top of the news, then there is an obvious but terrifying ending.

Greenland is not safe.

The European leaders are being total wimps.

Iran does have options E,g, cyber warfare the Homus (sp?) Straights.

The UN is probably finished. The rule of law is completely trashed.

Entering a period that takes the world way back in history where might is right, and small/medium countries just have to hope for the best.

I have some very nice Iranian friends.

So have we, their families fled when the Shah was deposed.

Claremont Sun 22-Jun-25 10:20:14

The war on Iraq changed everything- illegal pre-emptive strike and war, with the threat and lies about weapons of mass destruction, that Blair believed, and agreed to send troops. And then Afghanistan, and now Iran.

This man says it perfectly, sheer sheer and humongoulsly dangerous for the whole world. All our grand-children, who often live a long way away from us. This s just weakedly sick.

toe not tow 🤬

GrannyGravy13 Sun 22-Jun-25 10:07:07

There is an almost deafening silence from the Countries in the area.

Iran is a rogue state, it is known for sponsoring terrorism throughout the world, it beats women for not conforming, throws gays off of buildings and generally terrorises its own people if they do not tow the line.

An Iran with nuclear capabilities would be an even bigger threat to the world.

JenniferEccles Sun 22-Jun-25 10:06:48

Iran apparently has a number of secretly placed nuclear enrichment facilities, buried far underground in mountainous areas, well protected from attack.
The US has ‘bunker busting bombs’ which it’s said are powerful enough to destroy the facility.

Trump has said the mission was successful.

I can understand the fear and concerns expressed on here, but isn’t this possibly good news?

Does the world really want a country like Iran to be permitted to continue building its nuclear arsenal?

Kandinsky Sun 22-Jun-25 09:52:25

Really scared now that WW3 is starting.

fancythat Sun 22-Jun-25 09:34:11

Startmer appears to agree with what Trump has done.
I am totally out of the loop on what has just happened.

Proliferation was always going to be our downfall- we tried to warn, in vain. This idea that somehow only the 'goodies in the West' could have them, was never going to work. And the 'goodies in the West' have turned out to be the very 'baddies'- with their stooge in the Middle East.

Yes. Too true unfortunately 😔

Galaxy Sun 22-Jun-25 09:29:25

Germany was the worst possible enemy. Obviously things change over time this doesn't mean they weren't true.

Trump’s particular style seems to imply that he and he alone decides when to drop bombs and when not. I would be very worried if I lived in America as democracy doesn’t seem to be working. Is it really possible that Trump is able to make such life and death decisions in a political vacuum?

I keep thinking the same thing about Trump doing what he likes.

Cabowich Sun 22-Jun-25 09:22:24

How, exactly, is Iran able to retaliate? Why is the situation so worrying? I don't quite get it.

If Trump has incapacitated any nuclear weapons the Iranians might have had, what have they got left? Some missiles which might not have the ability to reach America?

Please somebody explain why the situation is so dangerous.

fancythat Sun 22-Jun-25 09:20:43

I was not expecting him to do that.
Though I have been away and not kept up with news, even as much as I normally do.

Doesnt at all seem the right thing to do, from what little I do know.

Claremont Sun 22-Jun-25 09:17:59

Not long ago, we were made to believe the Indians were the bad guys, and the white settler the good guys. Russia was our staunch ally, and Germany the worst possible enemy. Who decides re nuclear weapons, and what happens when the above changes and turns around? It was never going to work- and tactical nuclear weapons have give the illusion that MAD no longer applies.

ronib Sun 22-Jun-25 09:13:04

In the age of outsourcing, how possible would it be for Iran to buy in nuclear weapons from somewhere like North Korea?

Whitewavemark2 Sun 22-Jun-25 09:09:54

I refuse to worry about something. I have absolutely no control over…
