I think the stumbling block is Hamas want a guaranteed end to the war in return for for the hostages and the Israeli government doesn't. Once Hamas gives up the hostages it has nothing to bargain with so it's inevitable, I'm afraid, that they will continue to hold out. Hostage taking is vile but it has been effective in the past as Israel has agreed terms in exchange for the return of their citizens. Israel has a great many Palestinians in their prisons who are there without charge and/or trial. In 2023 this included 300 women and children. I think Hamas might consider that these could be classified as "hostages"?

Ben-Gvir has been convicted of incitement to racism and incitement to violence along with others in the Knesset. Why would any decent person support this extreme right government?

The vote was 71-13 in favour of a non-binding motion calling to annex the West Bank.
That is a very big majority. That's more than just Netanyahu and his extremist supporters. Wonder how much it reflects the views of the Israeli population?
And also, as I am not familiar with the voting system, did representation from the West Bank also have input?

The truth is I think is that Israel is going to continue to behave as it is unless and until the USA says stop.

So the USA is as guilty of the starvation of those children as if it was preventing aid entering Gaza itself.

I was sort of giving him the benefit of the doubt - listening to his rhetoric. As he so often says he hates the thought of people being killed.
