Given that the world is facing so many problems it’s tragic that it is now facing an outbreak of a disease that is totally preventable . Does a lot of it stem from that Republican senator (?) who is anti vacc; the one who is in charge of Americas health?

I think it stems from Dr. Andrew Wakefield (who has since been struck off) who was involved with the fraudulent Lancet MMR study in 1998, linking MMR to autism.

I think mine started when a politician ate a burger or something and gave one to his daughter.
Saying beef was safe to eat.
At the start of mad cow disease.

I cant remember all the details.
But I was then at age of thinking, hang on, if they can get that so wrong, what else, especially anything health related, are they also getting very wrong.

I suspect in the USA Senator Kennedy will have some influence on MAGA, but I think it goes further than that.

People accept so much tripe as gospel, and the ability to feed them tripe is greater than it has ever been.

I do think also that people often act on feelings rather than fact and of course we have the phenomenon of “alternative facts” now.

I find it incredibly difficult to understand though as acting on “feelings” is taking an incredible risk.

We have so much information at our fingertips these days and it is so easy to look at issues critically and with careful thought.

Listening to some dopey politician should never influence you😮 always go to those scientists, doctors etc and read and read again if you are unhappy about something.

But never let yourself be beguiled by politicians who know no better than you!

Yes!

I remember having measles as a child - it was horrible.

My husband also had it as a child and it damaged his eyesight so much that he’s had to wear glasses from the age of 3.

All before the vaccine of course. There’s no wonder we, as mums, were keen to get our children vaccinated asap.

Like so many of my contemporaries, I had the full set of awful childhood illnesses - measles, whooping cough, chicken pox, scarlet fever, mumps, diphtheria. My children had every immunisation on offer, including the very new measles one. I simply can’t understand why a loving parent wouldn’t do this and can only think it’s because they have never seen how ill a child can be with one of these common illnesses.

"You also said, specific to the measles vaccine, that you support the measles vaccine, but you have consistently been undermining the measles vaccine," Murphy said. "You told the public that the vaccine wanes very quickly... and said that the measles vaccine was never properly tested for safety. You said there's fetal debris in the measles vaccine."

I didn’t have any more Covid jabs, not because of any conspiracy theories but because I was darned ill from them.
I think some parents think their children will become autistic with MMR jabs.

Yes, there are lots of tweets on X blaming vaccinations for all sorts of health issues and castigating people who recommended having the COVID vaccination . One person a couple of days ago said children with a normal, healthy immune system don’t need vaccinations and another claimed thalidomide babies were the result of a vaccination trial. Then of course in the USA Robert Kennedy Junior is claiming vaccinations have caused autism and he has cancelled a publicity campaign for the flu vaccine. I believe he does endorse the MMR vaccine though.

But can anyone here say they have 100% trust, and I mean 100. in all vaccinations?

There is no medical procedure, or drug, which has a 100% safety record or efficacy. Vaccines are as extensively, or more extensively tested than other drugs we are prescribed though, so you make your choice based on that knowledge. I would never forgive myself if my child died or had a lifelong disability caused by my not vaccinating them with something which hundreds of millions, in the case of measles, have received before my child.

That is the rub for some people.

A single measles vaccine is not recommended as then the child isn’t protected against Rubella and mumps equally worrying if the levels drop leading to rubella syndrome in babies if mother contract it during pregnancy and mumps can cause meningitis, deafness and male infertility amongst other things. The likelihood of children receiving 9 individual doses to complete the MMR at one year and repeated again at preschool is highly unlikely.

Couple that with lack of trust in governments. And lack of trust in pharma.

Some mothers would rather listen to those spreading rubbish about vaccinations causing autism than believe the qualified medical professionals on the necessity of having this done.

Yes, TerriBull, I got measles from my two older sisters at 1 year. I had been kept away from them but toddled into their room. My immature immunity system also meant I developed double pneumonia, a common side effect. The doctor prepared my parents for my likely demise. I don't remember being in a darkened room but my sisters remember that I was and that they had to be very quiet when passing it. I lived to tell the tale.

I suffered very badly with whopping cough, and gave my parents many sleepless and fearful nights.

He grudgingly endorsed it to get his job in government but is still known to be vaccine sceptic…

There was a big scare about pertussis vaccines when DC1 was a baby so we decided not to have her vaccinated. No-one I knew did either. Our GP told us the disease was a thing of the past anyway.

Of course she caught whooping cough, sleepless nights, wheezing for a very long time afterwards.

I did wonder!

I got measles when about six years old. Hadn’t had a vaccine as thought mum didn’t agree with them but maybe it wasn’t available. I spent about six months in a dark room to conserve my eyesight. My headteacher came around to ask why I wasn’t at school.
