I recently saw a friend walking her dogs near to my house, so pulled over to talk to her, I said I’ve never seen her up my end before. She said, there are tents in the woods at the back of her house, one of the neighbors walking her dog was approached by two men, one tried to pull by the hood towards this wood, but her dog went for him. She said she now won’t walk her dogs in the woods now.

So guessing tents!

'Asylum seekers' apply through the proper channels. They don't arrive illegally on boats from across the channel or in the back of lorries. Those arrivals are illegal immigrants until they go through the application process.

They could apply for asylum in the first safe country they manage to escape to and not have an end goal of the UK. Countries in mainland Europe are safe and that is where they should apply.

Never mind passport. We won’t be allowed into Europe without a visa from late 2025-2026.
It will affect us, but it’s to put in place additional blocks to non-Schengen travellers who attempt to cross the borders.

ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) will require a travel authorization for short stays, and the Entry/Exit System (EES) will automate border checks.

Oh how they like to twist the truth. Of course, you're right, they are asylum seekers Jaxjacky but I think it will be just about when hell freezers over that the truth twisting stops.

I wonder if the blinkers have been shed enough to believe some actual facts:

As decisions increase, so does the number of people whose claims have concluded without success and who now face removal from the UK. There were just 346 enforced asylum returns in the whole of 2021 and 580 in 2022. The number increased to 1,997 in 2023 and in 2024 there were 2,647 enforced asylum returns. (17 Apr 2025)

Keep telling the misinformed Jaxjacky. One day they may see they allow their opinions to overwhelm truth - but I wouldn't hold my breath.

We are still in this situation with boatloads of illegal/undocumented, (whatever you want to call them) males arriving here every day, so well done to that particular hotel for refusing to take any.

It’s an appalling situation isn’t it, and made worse by the current government refusing to at least give the Rwanda deal a chance.
My theory is they were afraid it would have worked and then of course the Conservatives would have the credit.

We know nothing about these men.
We don’t know who they are, where they’ve come from, which ones have a criminal record, and whether they wish us harm.

It's wrong to say that France doesn't put asylum seekers in hotels, it does. During the Olympic Games last year thousands were removed from hotels and evacuated to the provinces in order to use the Paris hotels for tourists.

Another problem is, that once they have been processed, asylum seekers continue living in the hotels, so there's no new available room and more hotels have to be found.

A pub/hotel across the road from me has been taking local families and lone teenagers as emergency housing for years.
10 years ago nearly all our windows were broken by a gang of kids on some sort of vandalising spree.
The ring leader was a teenage girl white, with a Scottish accent. Not an asylum seeker in sight.

Luckily it hasn't happened since but it was very upsetting at the time.

One problem is it takes so long for their applications to be processed one young man we met stayed briefly with a neighbour has waited 10 YEARS to get leave to remain. During that time he couldn't work legally, though people were giving him cash in hand jobs for gardening etc. the Home Office is not fit for purpose.

On a personal level I’m sure I wouldn’t like the man if I met him, but I’m talking about his ability to get things done for the good of his country.
There’s no way he would tolerate the ridiculous situation we currently have here, with successive governments apparently unable to stop the tide of illegal migration.

I've got friends ITRW (In the Real World) who have tried to assure me these men really are genuine asylum seekers - and there's no such thing as illegal immigrants. But then - in the next breath - they've gone onto comments that it's all karma/payback for when Britain had an empire etc etc - and I've thought "Now that should be interesting if you can prove any more than 1% of us have ancestors that have been out there Empire-grabbing generations back - because my own ancestors most certainly werent and were doing perfectly ordinary things like being the village baker or working in a dockyard or the like".

I might believe it about, say, an Afghan woman or an Iranian woman.....but all these fighting age men......hmmmm.....

It would be interesting to know the scale of hotels etc that the Government are asking to be hotels for these illegal migrants. One wonders how many are just grabbing for the money on the one hand v. how many are turning the Government down on the other hand.

I'm not aware of any moneygrabber ones near me - but I am aware of one that has turned down what he called "loads of money" - and he wasnt British either (judging by his name) - but he'd obviously decided to have a few morals about supporting the country that has taken him in (officially and legally).

Guess it's not a small town then?

I have gone the usual legal routes myself if need be about things - but I do know that there is a local alternative route (known as "The Boys"). I've even had one of The Boys tell me about a visit that was paid to several local thieves - apparently they decided to give up stealing at that point. It's also been out there publicly on local Facebook groups about visits by The Boys.

I think a lot of people in some communities will know of a "second tier of justice" so to say in their communities and I suspect those tents wouldnt be there for long....

You have it the wrong way round and don't seem to understand our law. This may be the influence of Trump Countries law as it goes down the Gilead route of being guilty until proven innocent.

Here we still believe that people are innocent until proven guilty and nothing you chose to believe stops that being a truth. So they are asylum seekers until they have been proved not to be. And now the government (see previous figures) are ramping up the processing and ramping up the returns.

It is Government policy to end the use of hotels to house asylum seekers. Obviously this is not working.

They presumably arrived illegally and then sought asylum. Illegal immigrants, probably about 1 million people, have probably disappeared and are not housed in hotels.

However it is very naive to think that all the young men arriving on the boats are genuinely in need of asylum. Or even others on the boats with them. There will be those in genuine need of asylum sadly who are caught up in this mess

The government is planning g to move them into empty housing around the country. Starmer says there are plenty of empty houses so there might be some near you. This has already happened in Ireland.

Sarnia The story about the Skegness Hotel owner was on my local news at the time. Good for him for having morals. It doesn't matter what we call these people we don't need them taking resources from people who have paid taxes all their lives when then have contributed nothing. It is disgraceful our pensioners were cold last winter, our homeless people rely on wonderful charities and our schools and NHS are at breaking point. You only need to watch the news to see most crime is commited by these migrants, yet the politically correct do-gooders refuse to accept this.
