So what do GNs think of Starmer’s decision to recognise Palestine as a state?

Exactly that.
Although it’s still only, the UK may recognise Palestine as a state unless certain conditions are fulfilled
What will that mean for the UK and for those supporters of either group living here?

So not content or convincing anyone that posts criticising the Israeli government is antisemetic, we are now trying another unpleasant tactic and attacking Islam.

Just keep to the topic and everything will run much more smoothly

wwm2 so what is your position on Hamas? It’s a touch unclear.

It’s antisemitic not antisemetic as keeps being written.
Some posts on the forum have been very unpleasantly antisemitic btw.
It’s the extreme Islamists that are the problem in so many countries and if the government of Gaza, hamas, had not been so, then harmony would have prevailed there. It really is as simple as that.

Pleased to read that Germany is stopping all military equipment being exported to Israel until the genocide stops.

Now the the rest of the world except USA of course must do the same.

Islam being the extreme in the Muslim faith

No, Islam is the religion practiced by Muslims. It is not ‘the extreme’.

The US will always support Israel in arms and anything else, tho I can see Trump telling BN to wrap things up fast.

@phil51

Islamophobia right there.
There are millions of peaceful and law abiding Muslims living throughout the world.
What you just said tells me everything I need to know about your take on this conflict.
Imagine if anyone said the problem was Judaism.
The outrage should be the same.
Will not report because I would rather commenters see your true colours.

Islam being the extreme in the Muslim faith.Hamas and other groups wish for an Islamist Caliphate all across the Middle East.
phil51 did not say that Muslims are the problem.

"Islam" is not the extreme in the Muslim faith! Islam is the religion followed by Muslims.

growstuff Fri 08-Aug-25 14:43:29

Sorry, Lizzie, just seen you'd already posted that.

Extreme Jews don't do themselves many favours either.

Read the full thread LizzieDrip and growstuff as I rightly amended my post, as I meant to say extremist Islam.

No of course they don’t and there are several of those in the Knesset.

The point is which some seem to be not understanding.

We have nothing to say about the religions of the perpetrators and victims - it is primarily the history and politics of the area.

So this discussion about Judaism and Islam is a total red herring.

Not true

Interestingly though I was investigating Mike Huckabee’s background, and he is apparently a Christian Zionist, which means that he believes in the second coming of Jesus to the holy land, which is why evangelicals believe it essential that Jews reside in that region.

However it isn’t all goods news for Jews, because once the second coming occurs and it could be any time, then Jews having served their purpose, and unless they convert, will be condemned to hell.

Still they can rely on the USA for support for a time at least🙄

Oreo Fri 08-Aug-25 15:02:20

That certainly isn’t true whitewavemark2 as extreme Islam demands the death of all Jews.

ronib Fri 08-Aug-25 15:09:42

Not forgetting Christians are also being slaughtered in large numbers Oreo

Oreo Fri 08-Aug-25 15:11:27

Yes of course.☹️

Iam64 Fri 08-Aug-25 15:15:50

Thanks Oreo, I was about to make a similar post.

I don’t see following the Christian, Buddhist, Jewish or Muslim faith (other faiths are possible ) as a problem. I see fundamentalism, evangelical etc a a big problem. Off topic but as an example look at what ‘extreme’ Christian’s are doing in parts of America. They criticise Muslim people, suggest their women lack rights and implement policies not a million miles away.

I live in an area with a large Muslim population, primarily of Pakistani or Bangladeshi background. Sadly, I’ve found casual anti semitism a feature.

We know Egypt and other Middle Eastern countries are working with European leaders, trying to find peace. Trump and Netanyahu 🙈
