So what do GNs think of Starmer’s decision to recognise Palestine as a state?

Exactly that.
Although it’s still only, the UK may recognise Palestine as a state unless certain conditions are fulfilled
What will that mean for the UK and for those supporters of either group living here?

I think it was more that the British didn’t know how to reconcile competing and irreconcilable demands. Not sure that gross unfairness was actually mentioned in Hansard . wwm2

Respectfully this is a very serious and distressing subject and making it as you go along is disrespectful to the many who have died.

The British abstained from the UN vote. After the Parliamentary debate there was a subsequent Cabinet Meeting which discussed the issues and dates of withdrawal.
It is interesting to think about it in the context of the Partition of India within a short time frame.

Yes!

I think that the fairest thing you could say about Attlee and the government was that they were exhausted after the war.

Yes and huge problems and challenges on the domestic front.

Mind you abrogating responsibility 😡

From BBB on line
Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets across Israel to oppose the government's newly announced plan to expand its military operation in the Gaza Strip
Protesters, including family members of 50 hostages in Gaza - 20 of whom are still thought to be alive - fear the plan puts the lives of hostages at risk, and urged the government to secure their release
Israeli leaders have rejected criticism of their plan, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying "this will help free our hostages"
*A group representing families of the hostages said on X: "Expanding the fighting endangers the hostages and the soldiers - the people of Israel are not willing to risk them!"
Among the protesters in Jerusalem was former soldier Max Kresch who said he is now refusing to serve*
"We're over 350 soldiers who served during the war and we're refusing to continue to serve in Netanyahu's political war that endangers the hostages (and) starving innocent Palestinians in Gaza," he said

Netanyahu isn't listening to his own people. Following his own brutal agenda and risking the lives of the hostages who have suffered enough.

Anniebach Sun 10-Aug-25 16:00:49

No demands from the countries which support Palestine to
free the hostages , they are forgotten

Wyllow3 Sun 10-Aug-25 16:46:37

He has spoken of them and with the fears in Israel I am certainly quite sure he hasn’t forgotten

Smileless2012 Sun 10-Aug-25 17:42:45

Speaking of them is one thing, not putting them in further danger and trying to get them released is another thing entirely.

No Anniebach no one knows much at all. It’s all made up. Sheer conjecture of the highest order.

Fair enough. Just to say that it has changed my appreciation of the situation the poster is in.

The IDF have assassinated 5 journalists in a targeted attack, they explained it away as they were actually targeting a Hamas terrorist. As there is no independent journalist to verify this - I think this should be taken with a pinch of salt, as it is clear now that lies are being told by Netanyahu and his cohorts.

They sure don’t want the world to know the truth do they!

Netanyahu is getting his ducks in line before he commits the worst atrocity since WW11.

He simply can’t afford to have a single journalist in Gaza who will report the horror that he intends committing.
