So what do GNs think of Starmer’s decision to recognise Palestine as a state?

Exactly that.
Although it’s still only, the UK may recognise Palestine as a state unless certain conditions are fulfilled
What will that mean for the UK and for those supporters of either group living here?

Al Jazeera is supported by the Qatari government who in turn support Hamas.
We will never know the truth of this story.

5 Al Jazeera journalists were killed yesterday

The Guardian view on al-Jazeera: muzzling journalism ...
Al Jazeera Media Network is owned by Qatar Media Corporation (QMC), the official state broadcaster of Qatar. While Al Jazeera claims to be a private foundation for public benefit and operates with editorial independence from the Qatari government, its funding and governance structure raise questions about its autonomy. The network receives approximately 90% of its funding from the Qatari government.

Much of the “news” from Gaza has been sent by Aljazzera, pure propaganda supporting Hamas and repeated parrot fashion by all the other media.

There is no doubt that Palestinians are suffering horribly, but blatantly biased reports has not helped them, it’s made their suffering worse.

Allsorts Mon 11-Aug-25 07:29:18

Anyone with eyes and ears see the genocide daily. There is no excuse for genicude ever. Yet some people on see no wrong in the methods used by Israel. Hamas is a group,
The ordinary people just want a safe home. Are they less because of their birth? The trauma on those chikdren that survive is unimaginable. I am disgusted and appalled by the bullying and hate of Israel..just shows how little they obey their God.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 11-Aug-25 07:31:29

The truth will be told once journalists are able to report from the ground.

Until then I take every thing Netanyahu and the IDF “report” with a very large pinch of salt.

He has very cleverly managed to control the information from Gaza - but one day the full horror of it will be fully exposed.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 11-Aug-25 07:34:22

As an aside.

Since when has it been acceptable to target and kill journalists plying their trade in war time? Regardless of their apparent bias or “their truth”

I thought that Israel was a fully signed up member if the Geneva convention!

ronib Mon 11-Aug-25 07:39:51

Since when has it been acceptable for journalists to actively engage in rocket attacks on Israel? We have no way of knowing if Hamas was using journalists to kill Israelis.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 11-Aug-25 07:44:57

No we don’t, that is why the Geneva convention was such an important development - it sought to protect people such as we saw in WW11 where atrocities of the worst kind would never again be possible without the world knowing.

Ironic isn’t it?

Anniebach Mon 11-Aug-25 07:47:11

I haven’t seen victims of genocide daily, I see people running in large crowds, I have seen 2 little children with serious physical health problems .
Yes I have trawled the internet looking for facts of dying people

Whitewavemark2 Mon 11-Aug-25 07:55:30

Netanyahu stood up yesterday and “guaranteed” foreign journalists his protection and security.

Hours later he killed 5.

David49 Mon 11-Aug-25 07:56:25

Even if independant journalists are allowed into any conflict zone they are only allowed to report what the group in power allow. In Gaza Hamas is in power they would never allow “unbiased” or critical reporting.

Killing of journalists in the Gaza war

This article is about violence against journalists during the Gaza war. For a list of journalists killed, see List of journalists killed in the Gaza war.
The killing of journalists in the Gaza war, overwhelmingly Palestinian, along with other acts of violence against journalists, marks the deadliest period for journalists in the Israeli–Palestinian conflict since 1992 and the deadliest conflict for journalists in the 21st century.[1] The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) counted 178 journalists who were killed (176 Palestinian and 2 Israeli), as of 12 June 2025,[2] and the International Federation of Journalists counted 174 journalists and media workers who were killed (170 Palestinian and 4 Israeli), as of 5 June 2025.[3] A July 2024 count by the Gaza government media office placed the number of Palestinian journalists killed at 160,[4][2] and in January 2025 the Gaza Government Media Office increased it to 202.[5] July 2025 saw the number climb to 217.[6]
The head of the Committee to Protect Journalists stated in 2024, "Israel's war on Gaza is more deadly to journalists than any previous war".[7][8] Israeli airstrikes additionally damaged or destroyed an estimated 48 media facilities in Gaza. Reporters Without Borders has reported that the Israeli army intentionally targeted Palestinian journalists.[9] The Guardian stated that contrary to international law, Israel had targeted Hamas-affiliated Palestinian journalists despite their non-involvement in combat, thus disputing Israel's denial of targeting journalists.[10] In 2023, nearly 75% of journalists killed worldwide were Palestinians who had died in Israel’s war in Gaza.[11][10] According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, Israel was the second worst country in the world for allowing the murderers of journalists to go unpunished.[12]
UNESCO awarded its 2024 World Press Freedom Prize to the Palestinian journalists of Gaza.[13]

Whitewavemark2 Mon 11-Aug-25 08:10:52

The power in that conflict zone is Israel, it isn’t Gaza.

And can you see independent journalists like the BBC Jeremy Bowen allowing Netanyahu to call the shots.

Of course not!

More than 400 aid workers and over 1,300 health workers have been reported killed in Gaza since October 2023, despite the requirement under international humanitarian law for humanitarian workers to be protected.

Numbers of deaths in Gaza are reported by Hamas

Babs03 Mon 11-Aug-25 08:19:30

I don’t know when or why we started to think is ok for a first world country to flout every international and humanitarian law during a conflict, with some actively seeking to excuse this.
Am 68 now and have never seen such a shameful episode acted out in plain sight.

Of course Annie.
No doubt is easier to stick to this mantra.
Just keep playing the same record.

AGAA4 Mon 11-Aug-25 08:27:26

I am older than you Babs and I have never seen any civilised country act in the way Israel is doing.
Netanyahu has alienated so many countries. He has damaged their reputation beyond repair.

Parsley3 Mon 11-Aug-25 08:27:58

Propaganda is propaganda and Israel uses it too. However, the Hamas operative justification is wearing thin.
A cafe full of people bombed for one Hamas operative. A line of people attacked for one Hamas operative and now a group of journalists killed for one Hamas operative. Picking Hamas operatives off one by one kills a great many bystanders and that deserves to be criticised.

StripeyGran Mon 11-Aug-25 08:28:19

Seriously how can people be bothered to engage with this stuff?

The denial.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 11-Aug-25 08:43:34

And the point is that Israel hasn’t succeeded in a single one if it apparent war aims.

It has simply made life a whole lot more difficult for Jews throughout the world and in Israel.

Israel will be despised for decades because of its actions, particularly once the war is ended and enquiries into its various actions begin to be investigated and revealed.

An attempt to dismiss facts with sarcasm ? I am so use to it here

Hamas will be despised more than Israel by future generations. Hamas needs to get out of Palestine and the countries supporting this murderous organization should be deeply ashamed.

Hamas is a terrorist group, they will simply be a footnote in history, but Israel is a state which has until now received so much goodwill and support, which I fear they have totally forfeited as a result of the genocide and ethnic cleansing.
