Because in just over 12 months the 22billion "black hole" ,which was her all-purpose excuse for financially crucifying pensioners, has managed to become 41billion.

Almost doubled?!!!!!!!

Show your working Rachel from Accounts.

Perhaps she is more unbiased than your post? Seriously, when people make posts like this it’s just a ranting invite. I don’t intend to play.

But you’ve just entered the game.

What’s biased about that factual post? I’ve seen far worse descriptions…

“…financially crucifying pensioners” 🙄

The current government is really not up to the task… but who is?

Oreo Wed 06-Aug-25 13:14:19

Nothing wrong with the Opening Post, it may not suit some people to answer or maybe they know there’s nothing to say as it’s true.

Oreo Wed 06-Aug-25 13:20:18

It’s a mess and I don’t think Rachel Reeves is up to it frankly.
Taxes should have gone up across the board the minute they took office to get things back to a healthy economy.

Luckygirl3 Wed 06-Aug-25 13:22:45

Robber Reeves - what utter silliness ......

I must admit I thought the same when I heard it on the News this morning. 🤔

I’m sure somebody will be along soon to explain..

My exact thoughts as well Merlotgran, but I didn’t realise it had nearly doubled!

Saltyspec Wed 06-Aug-25 13:36:05

In fact more than doubled, about £50 thousand million.

Visgir1 Wed 06-Aug-25 14:32:20

We all need to pull our belts in more, as Rachel from Accounts is going to Tax us considerably.
So this fictional "Black Hole" has doubled in size in 12 months, now it is a Giant crater. In another 12 months dread to think how big it will be.
Total mess.

Delene100 Wed 06-Aug-25 14:40:01

Answer, on the back of a postcard. She hasn't got a clue and she will aid Labour in losing the next GE. Get her out before she does any more robbing of pensioners.

Smileless2012 Wed 06-Aug-25 14:42:21

Well TBF just like the rest of us she only has 2 thumbs, 8 fingers and 10 toes to count with grin.

ronib Wed 06-Aug-25 14:44:30

Unlike the rest of us, RR went forward as Chancellor of the Exchequer. I do wonder why?

vegansrock Wed 06-Aug-25 14:53:14

I think the sneering playground name calling doesn't enhance sensible debate about the nations finances. The OP obviously thinks everything is hunky dory and no extra dosh is needed to keep public services afloat. The Op no doubt also believed the Brexit lies that we would all be massively better off. That went well.

Sheebee1 Wed 06-Aug-25 15:27:21

Fully costed plan and ready to govern for the country not the ‘party’- think some people believed that statement.

MaizieD Wed 06-Aug-25 15:29:43

Let's get this right. It's not Reeves who has said that the 'black hole' has doubled to £40+ billion. It's a Think Tank, the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR).

I have no time at all for Reeves, she is a bad Chancellor. She has no idea at all about how a national economy works, nor the role of money within it. She is promoting an austerity policy (though denying that she is) as she has no idea how to promote growth in economic activity and she has no interest in achieving a more equable distribution of the nation's resources.

The 'black hole' is a figment of a great many people's imaginations but the looming depression caused by her policies will be a reality...

Probably the same people who believed the Brexit hype. Oh, but wasn’t that only old people and the Conservatives?

It wasn’t, but one government truth is much like any other.

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 06-Aug-25 20:18:45

I haven't entered the fray here but I do want to say how much I dislike the playground- type name calling.
The Chancellor of the Exchequer is not Robber Reeves, and the PM is not Two Tier anything.
I disliked Prime Minister Johnson most heartily, but did not feel the need to call him a childish nickname, and refrained from referring to Ms Truss as Lettuce, or Lee Anderson as 30p Lee.
Could we speak about others in more adult terms, please.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 06-Aug-25 20:30:06

I think Rachel Reeves is well out of her depth. I think that’s why she cried. She wanted to save money by making cuts to Welfare but the lefty back benchers wouldn’t let her. She has no wriggle room now. She’s up the creek without the proverbial. I can’t see how Starmer can keep her in post for four more years. Can you?

nanna8 Wed 06-Aug-25 20:31:38

Yes miss.

Oreo Wed 06-Aug-25 20:51:46

I think there may well be a re shuffle of the Cabinet after Christmas if things don’t improve.
After all, when a PM says publicly how much confidence they have in you, you know it’s the beginning of the end.

Politicians have always been given nicknames by the public.

Just because you like a particular politician doesn't mean others must not criticise them or bestow a nickname.

Flash Gordon, Boris the Menace, 30p Lee, Two Jags, Kami-Kwasi Kwarteng etc etc.

I do like Rachel from Accounts 😀
