Unfolding Genocide

It’s not a case of being contradicted though is it? Just trying to sift through the data is a real task. I don’t think people are using the term genocide correctly. For instance, under Harold Wilson huge but huge numbers died in Biafra. Talking 500,000 to 2 million. Maremia

This in response to what happened in Biafra.
And am certain if it happened today it would definitely be categorised as genocide.

You could also try, 'Is genocide being committed in Gaza?'.
Lots of posts there, that would help you sift through the data.

Am pretty sore that if 62000 Israelis had been killed by an opposing force and were being starved to death that it would without doubt be seen as genocide.
It really does depend where people’s loyalties or prejudices lie.

Absolutely. Genocide is genocide and totally insupportable.

It’s a case of defining a term accurately. No one wants to downplay 62,000 deaths for each one was a life. However it is more accurate to describe 62,000 casualties of a war which is yet to see any resolution. So sadly.

Just wondering if a word exists apart from genocide that explains Israels actions in Gaza that would be more palatable; can't think of one.

You do know that we are talking about a first world nation with one of the biggest armies in the region and state of the art weaponry, a protective dome to prevent missiles getting through, nukes, and the backing of super power the US, against a much depleted bunch of terrorists who have limited arms and tunnels.
This could have and should have been dealt with differently. Is not so much self defence as revenge, pure and simple.

I think it started far longer ago than two years. Didn’t David Cameron, when he was PM describe Gaza as a concentration camp at one time ? ( happy to be corrected on this…)

The only thing that’s changed is the manipulation of people to believe in them!

Done everything possible to bring about a ceasefire, get enough aid in to the Gazans, and release all the hostages, no matter how hard that would be. The GFA was no walk in the park, it was fraught with difficulties, but it was worth the hard years, no??
And I know you will just reply that Hamas wouldn’t agree or set conditions, well that is what negotiations look like, you don’t just give up at the fist hurdle. And if I remember tightly Israel were pretty reluctant to get round the table as well.
Like I said it should have been done differently but it depends if the person with all the power and the might wants to talk or wants war.

But it is pretty horrid and against human rights.

Am talking about negotiations leading to a release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas of course.

Oh - just explain if you can how that works because it plainly hasn’t??
