Unfolding Genocide

BBC report

“Israel has faced mounting criticism over the 22-month-long war with Hamas, with UN-backed experts warning of widespread famine unfolding in the besieged territory.

On Tuesday members of an international group of former leaders known as "The Elders" for the first time called the war in Gaza an "unfolding genocide" and blamed Israel for causing famine among its population.

Following a visit to the Gaza border, Helen Clark and Mary Robinson, a former prime minister of New Zealand and a former president of Ireland, said in a joint statement: "What we saw and heard underlines our personal conviction that there is not only an unfolding, human-caused famine in Gaza. There is an unfolding genocide."

Am not expecting this to be taken seriously by some but if the BBC cannot be trusted this story is being carried by the majority of news outlets.

The men certainly don’t look malnourished

Thank you Babs03 very interesting article.
Israel in pursuit of Hamas have killed over 63000 Palestinians. Only 8000 of those were Hamas. A third of those killed were children so obviously not Hamas.

Anniebach Tue 02-Sept-25 12:04:07

Total numbers of dead given by Hamas !

Babs03 Tue 02-Sept-25 12:23:00

Seriously Annie, can anyone look at the flattened buildings in most of Gaza and not believe those stats?
I personally believe the stars are much higher because those buried under so much rubble have not been counted.
You seem to cherry pick when watching the news which even so must be getting increasingly hard seeing as the reality of what is happening is becoming impossible to deny.

Cherry pick ? no, I question the number of dead because Hamas gives numbers daily,
how can choose which numbers are true, there is no alternative,
The many allegations here against Netanyahu? cannot be the truth

You are just being so ridiculous now anniebach. Are you really saying that all the death and starvation reports, many from highly reputable sources, are extremely exaggerrated? Are all these people and organisations on Hamas's payroll? Have you watched any of the TV footage and the reports by very highly respected journalists like Jeremy Bowen? British doctors have recounted seeing different patterns of shooting injuries each day, which indicated that Palestinians were being used as target practice. Are you saying these doctors are not to be believed?

If you are so sure that Israel is behaving in a civilised and lawful way, why has it, from the outset, forbidden independent international journalists to enter Gaza? They are, of course, not worried about killing Gazan journalists or Gazan civilian reporters because they can simply say that they were terrorists. But if they allowed journalists from other countries to enter Gaza there would be far more scrutiny of Israel's shootings and bombings and of the circumstances in which reporters were being killed.

Anniebach Tue 02-Sept-25 13:14:59

If independent international journalists are not allowed in Gaza ! Jeremy Bowen reporting from where? I have not seen any film of malnourished people, highly reputable sources ?
UN who admitted some of their aids were involved in the 7th October 2023 attack on Israel?

Eloethan you trust easily or choose what fits with your own ideas ?

Babs03 Tue 02-Sept-25 13:22:07

“Eloethan you trust easily or choose what fits with your own ideas ?”

Right back at you Annie.

“Eloethan you trust easily or choose what fits with your own ideas ?”

Right back at you Annie.

My own ideas ? Based in fact and logic.
1.
Can a PM voted into office December 2022 , start a war in October 2023 to avoid a court trial.

2. Can an Israeli PM order a lack of security for his country for one day enabling terrorists to invade his country, not a squeak from any defence of Israel , still not a squeak ?

3. Can a group of terrorists who rape and video the rape on the victims phone and sexually abuse little ones, set fire to a home where families are locked in, take hostage bodies of their victims back to their hideouts. Strangle 2 little boys and murder their mother , return the little bodies whilst
crowds of their supporters/fellow terrorists cheer and laugh
be believed ?

Some explanations of “what fits into my ideas”

Jeremy Bowen is in Jerusalem. He could also be in the West Bank. Surely by now you must know the difference?

He works for the BBC , where he works but claims to work , anyone’s guess

Eloethan Tue 02-Sept-25 18:19:26

Yes, Jeremy Bowen has been reporting from Jerusalem as he, and all other international journalists, are forbidden from entering Gaza. They, and we, are reliant on reports from people inside Gaza, some of whom are British medics whose accounts are pretty damning.

Thousands of Israeli reservists have reported for duty. Netanyahu has said they will conquer all of Gaza.
Israel holds 75% of Gaza now.

The leader of the IDF has had angry exchanges with the government. He fears for the hostages and thinks that taking back half the hostages should have happened. Now it's probable that all the hostages will be killed in this offensive.

Anniebach Wed 03-Sept-25 09:29:24

If hostages are murdered the world will blame Israel not Hamas, safer

ronib Wed 03-Sept-25 10:11:41

The world should butt out .

Anniebach Wed 03-Sept-25 10:14:38

I heard the following yesterday

“Israel is winning the war but losing public support”

This means the public support Hamas ?

AGAA4 Wed 03-Sept-25 10:22:13

Why do you believe that people worldwide support Hamas.? I have seen no evidence of this.

It isn’t a case of ‘either/or’ Annie. Nobody I know supports Hamas, and in the beginning most people were cheering Israel on because of the atrocities committed on Oct 7th, western governments were falling over themselves to show support for Netanyahu.
But now support has dropped off because the majority of people cannot support genocide.
A simple ‘either/or’ argument is offensive to those who don’t support Hamas and could backfire inasmuch as others could say those supporting Netanyahu are in favour of genocide.
Nothing is ever that black and white and I think you know this, you are, as usual, being disingenuous.

The way I understand is that half the hostages still alive will be returned together with the remains of those who were killed, and the other half will be released later, on the condition that the ceasefire lasts.

Anniebach Wed 03-Sept-25 10:45:08

Hamas - do as we demand or all hostages will die !

May I just point something out?
In London, just two days after the hamas massacre in Israel, hundreds of Israel haters were marching in support of Palestinians. On the 15th Oct 2023 it was thousands and in November 2023 it was 300,000.
That isn’t support dropping off this year. Hatred of Israel and antisemitism are rife in this country.

Anniebach Wed 03-Sept-25 11:41:05

So true Oreo , denial doesn’t change facts . Maureen Lipman spoke of attacks on Jewish cemeteries, schools, etc shortly after
7th October 2923

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 03-Sept-25 11:42:16

Anniebach, what do you make of the UNICEF appeal which references high numbers of dead and injured in Gaza?

Babs03 Wed 03-Sept-25 11:43:34

Hate crimes against Muslims have also escalated similarly to antisemitic crimes so am not sure what your point is here.
Any racist/hate crimes are abhorrent.

If you read this it also states how Islamophobia has increased.
