The High Court has awarded Epping Forest District Council a temporary injunction to remove asylum seekers from a local hotel.
Setting a precedent?

46,000 illegal immigrants have arrived in boats since Labour got in. On top of that are all those sneaking in by lorries, car boots, speedboats, camper vans etc.

That is hordes in anybody’s book.

Agree. Then, if granted asylum, the families will follow.

And their families can be huge. Up to 22 family members in one case!

I do wonder why some like to spend do much time attacking me personally. I wonder if I should take it as a compliment? At least you seem to think the posts are worth a reply.

People who arrived in irregular ways?

People with irregular ways?😁
Irregular people with ways?
Ways who arrived in irregular people? This is getting confusing

Now just how good do you feel having posted that Laboutine? And I thought trolling* was off limits on GN. You live and learn.

* Trolling is when someone posts or comments online to deliberately upset others.

Best let it rest?

Glass houses and all that.

Good idea. All posts are deliberately made. Not sure all posters recognise that their own posts may be seen as deliberately upsetting for others.

The Park Hotel at Diss which was very much in the news recently is being renovated as the migrants have been moved out but we do not know where yet.

It is to reopen after renovation to the public but there are hundreds of comments on the local FB page saying locals will be boycotting it as nobody cared about what they thought nor did the hotel care when they cancelled all bookings at the last minute.

Apparently it is being renovated at the tax payers expense.

Wasn't that the hotel that had no problems with asylum seekers over the past year or two (maybe longer) - I thought they were families?

I have friends in Diss who were helping families integrate.

Yes it was. Locals didn’t have a problem with Mums and children but they were moving them out and replacing them with young, single men.

My old school friend lives right on the side of Diss Mere. Lovely location.

NotSpaghetti Wed 27-Aug-25 09:16:25

So were they finding homes for the women if they were "moving them out"?

My haven't spoken to my friends for a few weeks.

The government has now finally got the message that housing many male asylum seekers in hotels in town centres is a very bad idea.

Cossy Wed 27-Aug-25 09:43:00

Unfortunately, the last Government did so little processing of asylum seekers that this problem was bound to arise and bound to have no easy answer.

This government has speeded up the system and the returns. Do not expect a quick easy answer; their won't be one. Do expect the government to keep moving forward and to work with other countries. Government is the art of the possible, it is not necessarily "the art of the perfect" or "the art of the ideal." It often involves pragmatic compromise, balancing competing interests, and working within constraints, rather than achieving perfect or utopian outcomes.

Those who vote are adults and should have long outgrown the expectation of the wave of a magic wand!

No PN, you just look for opportunities to nitpick, and in this instance to demonstrate your usual nastiness, but We Do Not Care either for the nastiness or the apology.

Really? Another personal attack?

Are we not adult, mature and restrained enough to accept we all have different views, beliefs and opinions?

I happen to believe that there is a lot more than needs fixing, in addition to people arriving on small boats.

Yes it’s an issue, yes it’s got worse and worse across the years, yes it needs reform and to be resolved.

I’m far more concerned though by lack of police, doctors, nurses, teachers and other professionals, concerned by young people involved in gangs/ drugs/knife crime, those young people who have left school and aren’t in training or work, dwindling numbers in our armed forces, housing shortages, businesses going into liquidation.

None of the above haves been caused by the 1% of our population arriving in “irregular ways”.

The media just love to stir the pot and Farage uses immigration to help build his support in what appears to be an increasingly racist England.

Just my opinions, of course.

Galaxy Wed 27-Aug-25 10:04:35

Telling someone that that they hoped a posters children survived their parenting is about as personal as it gets. The one time I reported a person for a personal attack on me was when they brought my children into the debate.

Doodledog Wed 27-Aug-25 10:27:58

Excellent post at 9:55:33, Cossy.

It is very seldom that quick fixes work to solve anything on a permanent basis. The overall figures (to include numbers in, numbers processed and numbers out) over the length of the parliament will show whether the current government's policies have worked better than those of the previous one. Judging this government after a year for not undoing 14 years of ineptitude is short-sighted at best.

Yes but that seems to be what PNis all about.
Happily, We Don’t Care. That’s her choice.

Guilty of using the royal ‘we’ there Mollygo, given all our opinions are different about any topic or poster one could name.

For folk who supposedly don’t care, some of you are going on about it rather a lot🤔

As Casdon says, you’re using the royal ‘we’. You don’t speak for me.

No. It’s a group I subscribe to called We Don’t Care
We Don’t Care if people feel it doesn’t apply to them and We Don't Care if they say so. They’re welcome to share that. 😄

Casdon Wed 27-Aug-25 14:48:22

I’m in the grow up and speak only for yourself group myself, it’s a group of one.
