Horrifying!

I read about this. He is 17 and has been radicalised since he was 13.

growstuff Thu 21-Aug-25 16:42:01

I wonder if Prevent was ever involved.

What is happening to teenagers? When I was their age all I wanted was love and peace.

Easy access to drugs and rabbit holes on the internet = trouble and strife.
This is how I see it.

petra Thu 21-Aug-25 17:39:53

I see the article mentions the telegram app.
Known as the app for your drug of choice delivered to your door.
Short of recruiting thousands to monitor this crap it’s not going to stop.
But that doesn’t come cheap.

The High Court in Glasgow previously heard the boy had been radicalised through social media from the age of 13.

A list of "inspirations" found in his phone included Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini and Norwegian neo-Nazi terrorist Anders Brevik.

He had initially wanted to plant bombs at his school in December last year, before deciding to target the mosque.

Good grief!
Old enough to plan mass murders but not old enough to be named. He'll be out again in a few years so I hope he can be de-radicalised wherever he is sent and doesn't meet like-minded people inside.

Yes, what is happening to young people, from vicious school bullies to terrorists, this is a frightening trend now.

I didn't know that petra (not that I'm in the market for drugs).

It was a synagogue not a mosque.

This is a different attack.

Bit confusing!

I suspect both boys in these separate incidents were easily led loners. Not a lot can be done, it’s the Internet and the genie is out of the bottle.

Allira Thu 21-Aug-25 22:10:34

Both are dreadful.
One can be named, the other cannot even though they are only two years apart in age.
The older one received only an eight year sentence - why?

I know. That's why I posted it. It's yet another teenager involved in terrorism.

Which genie? Why does it exist in the first place?

No, I don't - the first one was a mosque. The second was a synagogue.

growstuff Thu 21-Aug-25 22:18:30

Would it matter anyway? They're both equal places of worship.

Oreo Thu 21-Aug-25 22:18:53

The genie is the Internet, where warped and sick individuals can influence and manipulate others all over the world.

Oreo Thu 21-Aug-25 22:22:26

The dark web included.
Hardly any parents are aware of what their kids are doing, computer wise and short of standing behind them and checking computers and phones constantly how can anyone know what they are doing or who they are talking to or listening to.

Think of the many teenagers radicalised by Islam extremists in this country, teenagers are easy prey .

I was hoping to focus on the age of those radicalised rather than the religion. To me, it doesn't matter whether the target is a mosque, synagogue or knit and natter group. There are actually many many radicalised far-right teenagers in this country. Many of them have been charged and convicted.

The ideas are coming from adults. Adults could start off by setting an example. IMO we need to question claims about free speech, including (especially) politicians.

Not according to all the different reports I’ve read Oreo. Nor according to the news this morning.
Anyway, where-ever it was, it was a dreadful occurrence.

Allira Thu 21-Aug-25 23:15:18

Both, Crossstitchfan.
Two different young men, two different court cases.

Frightening.
