Would you fly a flag for your country?

Think about all the English flags at royal events, at football matches and music concerts all over the country.

We stayed at a large hotel on Corfu a couple of years ago and it had flags from just about every country flying on the roof. It was good to see.

5 years ago or even last year I bet hardly anyone on this thread flew a flag or indeed even gave it a thought.

Yes they are. It’s frightening. And nasty.

I don't need to fly any flags. I love my country for the most part, but not this new flag waving and flag graffiti.

The first thread had to be closed down. There were some pretty nasty comments on it. It seems to me that the areas near me where people are flying flags are Reform voting areas. I copied a Facebook post to put on the other thread but couldn’t as it had gone. In it some young men who were painting England flags on buildings were hurling abuse at a young Muslim family that was passing by. A Facebook page of the next village to me had someone thanking people for flying flags. I wanted to respond but, for the first time I can remember, I was afraid to do so. I don’t know what I’ll do if anyone puts a flag up in my street. I don’t feel as if I belong in my country any more.

I suppose a Cornish flag is ok, but I really don’t see the point. I don’t understand what I am saying and to whom.

I would not. Not because I don‘t like my country, but I expect my neighbours here in Essex would not appreciate a German flag.

I have ordered a large Union Jack. Lots of people around here have had flagpoles and flags flying for many years.

Americans are very patriotic. I love seeing the Stars and Stripes above their doorways. The Union Jack is nothing to be ashamed of.

Bought two Poundland bags with the union flag, 🇬🇧 quite sturdy, hope to use for a long time, actually felt proud carrying them.
