Since I can’t see a thread about the Deputy PM and Housing Minister, Angela Rayner I am starting one. šŸ˜‰

All the main newspapers are headlining this story but most have a paywall and this one doesn’t.

There’s no doubt she has come far from her humble beginnings but this demonstrates to me that she is very out of touch with people.

It's that getting out of the car moment that does it for the women. A bit like the Diana crumpled wedding dress or one leg in one leg out with a shortish skirt.
Once inside and at work, I can't say I really notice!

OK Casdon, so who is some people same people please? They can't be the same if governments change surely?

The same people in this context are those who have passed personal comments about Angela Rayner since the days before she was part of the government, and who make posts continuously about her appearance and other aspects of her personal life rather than her ability in her job. Of course appearance is relevant in the context of appropriate, clean and tidy, and with groomed hair, but that’s not what I’m talking about, and we all comment if there’s an obvious sartorial failure, but it’s the constants attempts to undermine her in particular that I’m talking about. I’ve consistently said that I’m not an Angela Rayner fan, I’m not, but I find this level of scrutiny of her appearance weird and unnecessary.

Has anyone tried to find the Court Order Starmer suggests stops Angela Rayner from speaking about this subject? Does it really exist? What might the wording be?

Casdon Wed 03-Sept-25 09:41:42

For goodness sake ronib. Do you expect family court orders about the custody of children under 18 to be in the public domain too if they are for her?

ronib Wed 03-Sept-25 09:57:05

Starmer doesn’t say that though does he? It’s more a gagging order to prevent AR from releasing information about stamp duty evasion.

Casdon Wed 03-Sept-25 10:04:46

Perhaps he respects her privacy more than you do ronib. It really is not our business to know the details of a court order. I highly doubt he is lying when he says there is one - or are you questioning his integrity too?

Maybe, Casdon, but the comment about THE green trouser suit was brought into this thread on Monday by growstuff who, in my opinion, is also very adept at analysing any politician's ability to do their job. So I couldn't see how she was the one being jumped on here?

ronib Wed 03-Sept-25 10:10:20

Casdon I don’t think you need to ask…. Well let’s hope for some clarity once the additional tax due has been paid? Or not.

No, escaped, I’d be pretty sure that growstuff shares my opinion that the Green Trouser suit thread was one of the most revealing and shocking ever on Gransnet.

Your prejudice has overcome your sense of reality if you think an ex lawyer PM would say that a court order was in place when it wasn’t ronib, so I’m going to leave it there.

ronib Wed 03-Sept-25 10:28:06

I want to know what the court order stipulates - the actual wording would be good. But even that is unavailable. Weird.

Omg, and now it's cropped up on the Epping Bell Hotel thread????
The most remembered for sure.

Oreo Wed 03-Sept-25 11:37:57

Revealing and shocking?šŸ˜„You sure about that?
I don’t see that AR needs a free pass on sartorial clobber when every other female and male politician gets criticised.

BREAKING NEWS
AR is deeply sorry for her ā€œerrorā€ in not paying enough tax on her latest property.

She says she was given poor legal advice but is now working with top lawyers to put things right. Obviously it was their fault not hers. 🤣🤣

Have to ask why she didn’t seek a top lawyer in the first place.

eazybee Wed 03-Sept-25 12:02:10

Yes.
Exposed.
She has been badly advised again.
Really?

Interesting.

If they can't find decent legal advice and they're in government, we really don't stand a chance! 🤣

MrsQuigley Wed 03-Sept-25 12:09:32

Presdigitation reminded me of Leonard Sachs on The Good Old Days.
According to news reports Angela Rayner has admitted that she did not pay enough tax on her new Hove home and considered resigning.
All the slagging off of the Tories since Gransnet’s inception for sleeze and related stuff and it appears Labour are up to their eyes in the trough. What hope for the electorate?

Primrose53 Wed 03-Sept-25 12:16:53

Here is her interview on Sky News insisting she thought she did everything ā€œproperā€.

You would think she might have had a quiet word with Keir (the expert on all things legal.)

She's been very stupid, she much know that everything she does is under the microscope tbh I credited her with more sense and I was wrong!

GrannyGravy13 Wed 03-Sept-25 12:33:02

Oh dear Angela šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

icanhandthemback Wed 03-Sept-25 12:45:50

If she was given the wrong advice, it seems that her Financial Adviser should be given the boot as they obviously aren't up to much!
However, it does show how difficult these Trusts are. She wouldn't be the first person to come a cropper. Also, what is wrong with the Tax Office that they can't pick up a mistake like that?
I do think her value to the Labour Party is becoming limited and I can't see her lasting long term especially if she is a threat to Starmer.

fancythat Wed 03-Sept-25 13:02:19

I have not read the thread.

Labour Deputy Prime Minister. Not paying enough tax.
Oh dear.

Iam64 Wed 03-Sept-25 13:16:31

The law on trusts is complex. She followed the legal advice she was given. After recent publicity, She checked out the advice from a specialist counsel which indicated she’d been wrongly advised.
AR paid the necessary tax. It’s clear she didn’t set out to avoid tax.

I would like the person who gave her the original legal advice to come forward and give their version of events. They obviously won’t like being told they gave poor advice.
