As far as I know, Nottinghamshire is undergoing the same sort of reorganisation as Essex.
The idea in Nottinghamshire is to abolish the nine district councils and have two larger unitary authorities, which eliminate the overlap and wastage with county and district councils.
In Essex, we're going to have three unitary authorities, but the controversy is whether the county gets divided into horizontal or vertical bands. I'm in north west Essex - it matters to my council because we could end up in north Essex, which is mainly rural, but probably centred on Colchester or we could end up in west Essex, which is more urban and would be centred on Harlow. We don't feel a great affinity with either group. We also have an independent council, which would lose its majority and be absorbed into a bigger grouping.
My guess is that the same kind of situation exists in Nottinghamshire. The city of Nottingham is very different from the surrounding rural villages. I think it's crucial that local people have a voice and that the council uses the media to inform and consult with people. On the face of it, it appears that Reform doesn't want to be held to account.
