I would be very interested to know the timing of the setting up of the Trust on the other house and her allegedly transferring her 25% interest in it into the Trust. If that happened just before she bought the flat, it smacks of deliberate tax evasion. Which is illegal.

It depends how much detail was given to her advisers I suppose. I wonder how they feel about their reputation being tarnished in this way? Certainly not good PR for them regarding clients.

Let’s hope we are all given full transparency on the matter soon as until then this debacle won’t go away.

I think best to publish the advice - redacting personal details. What’s the problem? The hole is getting deeper.

Angela Rayner still has an interest in the constituency house in Ashton under Lyne - which triggers the payment of additional stamp duty on the flat in Hove.

Someone in her position cannot possibly have failed to understand that she still had an interest in the constituency house - she would have had clear and detailed advice when the Trust was set up.

I imagine the tax advisers will be double checking what they were told about all this. Their reputation is on the line and they won’t like it if they are thrown under the bus.

Both sides to this will want their say as both sides have reputations to safeguard. There’s a lot at stake here, not just £40k.

FGT this is already being discussed on the other AR thread. I did wonder about starting a new thread but decided not.

Crocodile Tears . If the Deputy PM cannot get sound legal advice, God help us all if she eventually gets the top job.

I very much hope not. Even with ‘poor legal advice’ a tax underpayment of around £40000 is rather noticeable. Have heard her mentioned as a successor to Kier Starmer and her political views are so far left they are off the page.
