Perhaps the issue for Netanyahu is the phrase “peace talks”.
It would appear that peace is the last thing he wants.
With Trump in the WH, Netanyahu can act with impunity!

Israel hits Qatar
(175 Posts)Is this finally a step too far for Netanyahu, hitting, not what is perceived as an enemy state like Iran but a firm ally of the west, particularly the US. A mother of a hostage in Israel says that Netanyahu has now handed her son a death sentence by his aggression.
Should any first world nation have this kind of impunity?
And with Qatar threatening to respond how is Israel making the state of Israel safer by its actions?
If we’re going to get biblical, ronib I believe the complete quote includes ‘Vengeance is minesaith the Lord’. Perhaps he would do better without any human intervention.
Do you mean drones? MaizieD
Do we have experts here? Who can be in this frightening situation?
Is Israel just going to carry on saying " Ah well, Hamas are hiding there"
It's madness.
As an aside, my Polish friend tells me they are all very worried.

I don’t think the God has drones at his disposal, ronib

The U.K. could have done the same to the IRA leaders - classed as terrorists.
Just lobbed a bomb onto Dublin.
True. The UK didn’t bomb Ireland , but can Bloody Sunday be dismissed?and other massacres carried out in Ireland?
Bloody Sunday, or the Bogside Massacre,[1] was a massacre on 30 January 1972 when British soldiers shot 26 unarmed civilians during a protest march in the Bogside area of Derry,[n 1] Northern Ireland. Thirteen men were killed outright and the death of another man four months later was attributed to gunshot injuries from the incident. Many of the victims were shot while fleeing from the soldiers, and some were shot while trying to help the wounded.[2] Other protesters were injured by shrapnel, rubber bullets, or batons; two were run down by British Army vehicles; and some were beaten.[3][4] All of those shot were Catholics. The march had been organised by the Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association (NICRA) to protest against internment without trial. The soldiers were from the 1st Battalion of the Parachute Regiment ("1 Para"), the same battalion implicated in the Ballymurphy massacre several months before.[5]
Would someone please express some sympathy for the six Israelis killed at the bus stop in Jerusalem? Or don’t they count?
Bloody Sunday was a dark day for the UK government, totally insupportable.
You see what I did there Annie, I critisized our government, just as I marched against it when an illegal war was waged on Iraq.
But this is where we part company because you cannot or will not critisize the Israeli government.
What is the point of criticising the Israeli government? How will that influence the war?

I don’t criticise or give support, i do try to understand why

Ronib discussing this is in no way deflecting attention away from the dreadful attack in Jerusalem, but we cannot in all reality preface every statement we make by our repugnance at oct 7th attacks and now this Jerusalem attack. Or this discussion will become sidelined very quickly.
I am afraid that while trump remains POTUS, the world is going to hell in a handcart. Latest news is that Poland has shot down drones coming from Russia.

Just lobbed a bomb onto Dublin.Of course we didn’t lob bombs at the IRA, we left the bombing to them.
Hamas cannot be compared to the IRA.
I do not condone this bombing, and haven’t posted as such.
I have posted that Israel should have consulted with Qatar, and a different solution agreed to eliminate the Hamas leaders who ordered the 7th October atrocities.
The IRA and Hamas both consider themselves freedom fighters, both see the occupying force as the enemy, both classed as terrorists, both responsible for bombing the enemies country, both responsible for thousands of deaths, both took hostages.
Babs03 my understanding is that Israeli attacked Qatar in retaliation for the 6 killed needlessly at the bus stop.
The point seems lost.
Israel typo

I'm quite surprised Israel did not assassinate the Hamas leadership living in luxury in Qatar years ago. It could have decapitated the terrorist leadership before October 7th.
I'm wondering whether it's coincidental - or not - that this has come just when the aid flotilla is well en route to Palestine and the Israeli government has just used drones (on 2 separate occasions) to attack the main ship in the flotilla. Of course the Israeli government is lying its little head off and saying "They must have done it to themselves - eg with carelessness with a cigarette or something" - but I doubt most people are buying their lies on that.
Those attacks on the flotilla are to try and deter them from completing their mission and I reckon they decided to "throw in" a bit of "While we're on the subject - we'll have a go at Hamas - even though they are in Qatar (ie a sovereign state)".
I figure those two moves together are leading contenders for "Stupidest move they have made yet".
Just how many countries are that darn "government" going to have a go at? It's not a Guinness Book of Records thing of competing with other countries to see how many they can attack at once....

If the IRA had carried out an attack along the lines of 7th October, who is to say how the U.K. government would have reacted?
I am not supporting Israelis actions in Qatar, or their failure to allow aid and observers into Gaza.
POTUS will not stop supporting Israel.
Netanyahu will not stop going after Hamas.
Hamas will not release the hostages.
These are the reasons I have avoided the Palestine/Israel threads recently. There is nothing a Gran from the UK can do to change the above.

Why did Israel need to retaliate by bombing Qatar?
Was the government of Qatar responsible for the killing of 6 Israelis at a bus stop?

I shouldnt imagine a "government" wants to be treated as a pariah - any more than individual people do.
Tunisia’s interior ministry said reports of a drone hitting a boat in the port “have no basis in truth”, and that a fire broke out on the vessel itself.
LizzieDrip Qatar is supporting Hamas. Hamas killed 6 Israelis at the bus stop. Yes Qatar shares responsibility.
NB Israel attacked Hamas in Qatar. Its headquarters . Okay by me.
CariadAgain we have targeted the wrong country as a pariah. Israel won’t care a jot what the rest of the world thinks.

What an extraordinary comment, and one only a supporter of a rogue state would make.

Those on the drone had heard the first lie about the attack on them and got a rather better record of the 2nd attack on them - it's clearly possible to see "something" descending from the skies onto the vessel. The Israeli government are rolling out the lie machine about both their attacks - but they are lying.
