Peter Mandelson - Epstein . Should Starmer sack him?

In 2008, Epstein pleaded guilty to soliciting sec from girls as yiung as 14. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison
Mandelson continued his friendship/business dealings with Epstein. The Telegraph reports when business secretary, Mandelson brokered a deal with Epstein after the conviction for child sex offences.
I heard PM today apologising, wishing he’d never met Epstein. He went on to apologise to the victims, he hadn’t noticed abuse of girls possibly because he’s gay and was there with his partner.
My view? How was he appointed? I knew about his links with Epstein which were always going to return to haunt him

What do you mean , Anniebach? Badenoch has no real power at all.I think Rinse and Repeat is nearer the truth.

windmill1 Thu 11-Sept-25 11:48:07

Will the spotlight once again focus on Prince Andrew?

Anniebach Thu 11-Sept-25 11:46:42

Must have been brought about by Badenoch, by the media, by reading of the media ?

He didn’t leap he chose the time

Luckygirl3 Thu 11-Sept-25 11:38:56

Ah - thank you for updating me. The right decision.

Forget about the Press; social media and expressed personal opinions on sites such as this, I am beginning to think that Palace officials may have been instrumental in getting the PM to take action.

Having Mandelson hovering around during a State Visit to the UK; sitting down at a State Banquet etc would have put our Monarch in an impossible position. I am sure that there were robust discussions behind closed doors.

For the avoidance of any doubt, the statement in Parliament earlier this morning made it very clear that Mandelson was removed from post: that is, he wasn’t allowed to resign.

Why is this piece of work a Lord??
Do they hand them out primarily to reprobates and scoundrels?

Jane43 Thu 11-Sept-25 11:34:08

He’s been sacked Luckygirl3. “In light of additional information* according to the Foreign Office. He should never have been appointed.

Luckygirl3 Thu 11-Sept-25 11:30:40

He was a bad choice to start with considering his history. An error of judgement on Starmer's part.

Will he have the grace to resign? - I doubt it. So Starmer will have to step up to the plate.

TBH I always had a somewhat sleazy impression of Mandelson, and was astounded when he was appointed ambassador to the US.

You?

Anniebach

It is bothering me a lot that Sir Kier Starmer didnt have the same thoughts as just about every poster on here.

He didn’t jump when media said ‘jump’

Wasnt just media!

Who else in the Country had "confidence" in him, as Sir Kier put it yesterday, apart from Sir Kier?

AGAA4 Thu 11-Sept-25 11:23:04

This had to happen. After the disgusting letters to Epstein were revealed on the news there was no other option.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 11-Sept-25 11:19:58

The correct decision 👍🏻

Surely we have a bigger pool of better candidates for positions in government.
It seems that most governments in the UK recently regardless of which side of the divide they come from, are really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

As Maya Angelou said: when someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.
It’s not as if he didn’t leave any clues as what a deceitful slimy creep he is.

Mandelson has faced several scandals and been sacked from the cabinet before, so even without this latest outrage Starmer should have seen the writing on the wall.
Not sure why the man was chosen, possibly because he was the only one slimy enough to deal with Trump?
Seems that in politics some cheat on their CV but even when a CV isn’t needed because the person is so notorious they’re reputation goes before them they are still given the job.
Politics is really hitting an all time low.

Homestead62 Thu 11-Sept-25 10:59:54

Mandelson always gave me the heebeejeebies. However, yes, he has to go.

Galaxy Thu 11-Sept-25 10:57:07

Thank goodness.

MaizieD Thu 11-Sept-25 10:53:28

Thank goodness.

I hope he is kept out of Labour's plans for ever.

windmill1 Thu 11-Sept-25 10:52:11

Oops! Mandelson gets his P45........

Whitewavemark2 Thu 11-Sept-25 10:50:50

Gone

M0nica Thu 11-Sept-25 09:45:16

Yes.

fancythat Thu 11-Sept-25 09:08:42

I am beginning to doubt that Kier Starmer is "foolish".
I am beginning to think he may be something else entirely.
Quite what, I dont know.
