Security will have to be sky high and protests are predicted as one the most unpopular world leaders comes to visit the royal family.

foxie48 Spot on!

6 ft 3 inches perfect height?

And around 16 stone, I believe so I don't think little is an accurate description of Trump!
😁

Despite absolute loathing for Trump and not being a Royalist I am hoping the visit is a wonderful example of how impressive we can be at putting on a state occasion. Basically we're "playing" Trump so let's do it well. There's absolutely no mileage in hosting this vile man unless as a country we get something out of it.
I think we have to be grown up about Trump and his ability to harm this country so as we're no longer the rich powerful country we were, we hold our nose and use diplomacy.
His visit will be carefully planned to give bim pomp behind closed doors! No one wants crowds lining the streets with jeers instead of flags! Two days of creeping round the creep with crocodile smiles. Pity about Mandelson, a man made for the job IMO but sadly very flawed, he could have shared gossip with Trump about the good old days!

Odious little man

Describes Trump perfectly

It seems to be a national pastime to bad mouth Trump so wait and see what his take on the UK is? It might be more accurate than we would like?

Trump's visit is bound to generate the carbon footprint of carbon footprints: Air Force One private plane, the President's bomb-proof limousine aka The Big Beast, all the limousines for his and Melania's endless entourage (Vance's recent jolly holiday in the Cotswolds required no less than 19 vehicles wherever he went, so it's said), and then all the transport required for his regiment of security.

And you can bet your life than when he gets back to the US he'll waste no time bad-mouthing the UK, because back-stabbing is Donald Trump's trademark 'talent'.

The Trump baby balloon was an appalling gaffe and it was an absolute disgrace that the ghastly Khan allowed it to stay during the last state visit.

I hope this visit is financially beneficial to our country, as of course that is what this visit is all about.

Some call it diplomacy, I call it appeasement. Like many, I chose to leave the country of my birth many years ago, but I still want to feel proud of it. How can I be, when Americans, recently arrived here in France to escape the worst excesses of their monstrous leader, ask me why Britain is giving credence and status to him. I have no answer. Britain abandoned its safest and most credible ally, the EU, in 2016. As a respected and nurtured member state, she had the security and support of our vast continent. Was Brexit a display of British diplomacy? Of course not.
Appeasement didn't work in the 1930s and Donald Trump should never be trusted to guard our interests however many red carpets and obsequious appeasers are rolled out to feed his greedy narcissism.

I do hope they don't get that daft Trump baby balloon out again.
It really was childish. The British public is surely better than that.

Unfortunately that’s how childish and stupid Sadiq Khan is. Thinks he is being clever. Odious little man

The royal family could refuse to meet Trump, this nonsense that they have no choice is pathetic, individuals ALWAYS have a choice, what they mean is it might cost them and they'd rather prostrate themselves before the rapist than show any integrity.

They are not Judy individuals, though, are they!

The King is our Head of State as this country has a Constitutional Monarchy.
Trump is the POTUS of the United States of America so it is one Head of State receiving another Head of State, not two chums having a visit. Personal feelings do not come into it.

It's called diplomacy.

This I have to see Jane112….

In hindsight I regret starting this thread and drawing attention to the forthcoming visit.

ronib Sun 14-Sept-25 10:01:03

I expect Trump would like empty streets too - less likely to be shot?

Magenta8 Sun 14-Sept-25 10:00:25

In the past QEII had to endure state visits from Ceauscescu, Amin, Mugabe and other dubious characters.

The best advice for the public is ignore the visit as far as possible as the orange baby just loves and thrives on any attention whether it is positive or negative.

Chocolatelovinggran Sun 14-Sept-25 09:59:05

I agree with you, foxie, Grandmabatty and Old Frill.
I'd like to see empty streets as his cavalcade glides by.

What on earth were 'they' thinking when this was promised? An already convicted felon, a misogynist, a racist, a man who exploits his position to incite violent, deadly, destructive riots? What in the name of God can justify this? Trade deals? He could renege on those on a whim! And in any case, does money make it justifiable? Why hasn't the King said no to this? How do you explain to young people that all the things you have taught them about right and wrong can be forgotten...because this vile bully must be appeased? I am incensed.

You explain to young people that there is Trump and there is the position of the POTUS. You explain how one is despicable but the other must be nurtured by all diplomatic means possible, because without the USA we are potentially at war and will be decimated.
KC etc all have to do all to maintain positive diplomatic ties to favour the UK, basically that's all his role is, he can't be picky. He's both our last resort and all we've now got.

Grandmabatty Sun 14-Sept-25 09:12:20

I suspect it is the role of president of USA that is being hosted, not the actual person of trump. I don't think it was necessary to offer a second state visit but I'm not a politician. The man is a buffoon.

Much as I loathe Trump I think the Government (with the help of the King) is "playing" him rather well. The saying, "keep your friends close but your enemies closer" is apt for dealing with Trump. Controversial, I know, but Mandelson (I loathe him too) was the perfect US ambassador to deal with Trump, they have a lot more in common than being close friends with the vile Epstein! Politics can be a dirty business and the King will be earning some of his takings from the public purse next week. At least whilst Trump is playing at being royalty next week it will hopefully keep him from making too many ill considered hasty decisions.....well I live in hope!

Yep diplomacy is the clean face of the dirty business of politcs.

Trump will soon be home again.

UK on the verge of calling in the IMF. We need the USA far more than they need us? Island mentality isn’t helping.
It isn’t the first time that the royal family has hosted a very dubious type. It hosted the President of Nigeria immediately after the Biafran genocide. Not to mention a particular family member ….
