Security will have to be sky high and protests are predicted as one the most unpopular world leaders comes to visit the royal family.

Despite absolute loathing for Trump and not being a Royalist I am hoping the visit is a wonderful example of how impressive we can be at putting on a state occasion. Basically we're "playing" Trump so let's do it well. There's absolutely no mileage in hosting this vile man unless as a country we get something out of it.
I think we have to be grown up about Trump and his ability to harm this country so as we're no longer the rich powerful country we were, we hold our nose and use diplomacy.
His visit will be carefully planned to give bim pomp behind closed doors! No one wants crowds lining the streets with jeers instead of flags! Two days of creeping round the creep with crocodile smiles. Pity about Mandelson, a man made for the job IMO but sadly very flawed, he could have shared gossip with Trump about the good old days!

👏👏👏👏👏👏

My son was doing his deliveries round Windsor today and he said the inhabitants really aren't happy about all the upheaval.

And Trump’s right - Europe must stop buying Russian oil.

Abso-bloody-lutely 👍🏻

As long as they don’t buy it from USA instead.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 16-Sept-25 20:39:13

Casdon we could use ours from the North Sea as opposed to buying from Norway which extracts from … the North Sea 🤷‍♀️

Wondering if they serve burgers at State Banquets?
Everything in Windsor will be safely behind the walls of the castle apparently, probably for the best.

Casdon Tue 16-Sept-25 20:51:04

We don’t buy Russian oil GrannyGravy13, it is under embargo in the UK, but other European countries do.

I know, apologies if my post wasn’t clear.

I find it rather hypocritical to green wash our oil use by purchasing from Europe instead of using what is in our waters.

Casdon Tue 16-Sept-25 21:08:34

There is not enough oil in the North Sea to meet the UK’s needs fully though. The Offshore Energies UK industry believes additional North Sea oil could meet only approximately half of the nation's oil and gas demand by 2050 if all schemes were activated. I’d far rather we buy our shortfall from Norway than Russia. .

Totally agree, no way should UK purchase anything from Russia in the current situation.

With Fried on the point about the Russian oil.

The UK does not import oil from Russia.

We already import more oil from USA than from anywhere else.

www.statista.com/statistics/381963/crude-oil-and-natural-gas-import-origin-countries-to-united-kingdom-uk/

"The most recent monthly data was for October 2024 at the time of writing. That data showed that in October, as in every other month in 2024, the US was the biggest individual source of imported primary oil and petroleum products.

When measuring only primary oil, supplies from the US were highest in every month in 2024. When measuring crude oil and natural gas liquids together the US was also the biggest foreign supplier every month in 2024."

Just reading on Sky news that protesters have managed to project a slide show of images of Trump, Epstein, Virginia Guiffre and Prince Andrew onto the walls of Windsor Castle tonight.

Police have raided the nearby property housing the projector and made 4 arrests .

JenniferEccles Tue 16-Sept-25 23:01:54

Pleased the police acted quickly.

Allira Tue 16-Sept-25 23:09:42

Surely the best protest would be to just quietly ignore the visit?

I'm sure indifference would be surprising to Trump.

Maremia Wed 17-Sept-25 08:26:56

The police acted quickly, but what will the legal charge be?

Grannynannywanny Wed 17-Sept-25 08:34:15

According to Sky News Four people have since been arrested on suspicion of malicious communications

Grammaretto Wed 17-Sept-25 08:41:40

I wish I had the energy to join the protests today against this 2nd State visit by the one Spekkie4eyes describes so well.
It feels so wrong to be welcoming him with open arms.

TheWeirdoAgain60 Wed 17-Sept-25 08:48:24

Nobody in their right, sane mind would want that animal-hating, disabled-hating, sexist, homophobic, racist, and his creepy mannequin-looking plastic misses here again!

Nightmare time!

GrannyGravy13 Wed 17-Sept-25 09:18:44

Just had a quick Google the U.K. still imports the following from Russia Fish Fillets, Metals (titanium, precious metals, and some other metals) and fertilisers.

I suppose all those who say our ‘free speech is being denied’, when supporting others arrested for ‘malicious communications’, will now come out in support of the four arrested in Windsor.

Or will they🤔

I was just thinking the same (waiting in for someone, too much time in GN)

It’s like going down the Rabbit Hole, free speech for some, not for others, some marches ok, others not.

Who knows anymore 🤷‍♀️

How infantile.

Yes, I suppose the idea that ‘I can say whatever I want, but you can’t’ is infantile eazybee.
