The Bayeux Tapestry won't be coming across this week due to big protests in France.
😢

I'd hide it away somewhere safe in a French château until the strikes are over (if ever), and the Bayeux building is finished!

Lovely pic escaped have you got a glass of the old vino on the go?

escaped Thu 18-Sept-25 19:07:47

Yes. Drinking from a horn, as you do.

Trivial diversion.

I agree. Who really cared about it coming to London anyway?

Oreo Thu 18-Sept-25 19:10:45

Horns are pretty good, they hold a lot but I find a lot of wastage and stains when I set it down on the coffee table to answer the door or a call of nature.

Well I was going to London to see it as it’s so old and so famous and a piece of our history.

We had already decided to go along with AC and GC, it is an important part of history, hey ho now means an added jaunt to France in a couple of years.

Don't worry. It's OK, they'll try again to bring it "in a few days' time", though exactly when is a secret!
It was just pure coincidence that the protests came on the same day as moving the tapestry. They couldn't risk it.

I don't think it was due to cross the channel until next year. It was about to be moved from Bayeux to an undisclosed location in France, but that was delayed for a short while because of the strikes and disruption yesterday.

The story is in Le Monde in English.

Thanks Mamie.
to an undisclosed location in France.
I wonder where? 🕵️‍♀️
It's not coming to your garage, is it?
This "secret location" must surely have been well kitted out to store it. I hope the UK is not paying for that too!

Just in case anyone gets terribly incensed, this thread was a bit tongue in cheek from the start!

Allsorts Fri 19-Sept-25 07:52:25

Let it stop where it was made.

Luckygirl3 Fri 19-Sept-25 08:25:21

Why is this post titled with a ref to Starmer?
Why does it not just say it is a shame that the tapestry can't come over?

I imagine it is due to the fact that the arrangement was made between President Macron and our PM and it was our PM who waxed so lyrically about it coming over and how well he had done to secure it.

In one GrannyGravy13.

And a wry désespoir of the French, for want of a better word. Though I love them really!

Whitewavemark2 Fri 19-Sept-25 09:09:25

In the scheme of things - how disappointed do you think Starmer is?

😄😄

Well quite!

And apparently it is ANOTHER disappointment for him - we lives and learns.......

LeslieL Fri 19-Sept-25 09:12:00

There’s a full size replica in Reading museum. An exact copy, apart from the original naked men who have shorts because the copy was made by Victorian ladies….

Love the pic!
Not our circus not our minkeys as the Inspector might say😂

Has it passed posters by that this is a lighthearted thread 🤔

Mamie Fri 19-Sept-25 10:00:44

We haven't got a garage, so probably not, though the road between Bayeux and here was shut briefly!
Nothing has been cancelled, just the move yesterday. All seems to be calm out there this morning.....

I think he probably has bigger fish to fry!

🐟 🐠 🎣 🐡 oops, better not start that one as well! 🤣

Or perhaps other cats to whip, for those who know! 🐈 😻 🐈‍⬛️

Yes, Saint Malo was actually quite quiet yesterday too, all over by 2 pm.
Supermarket really busy today though. A beautiful day here weatherwise, 26 degrees .

As long as you remember where you stashed it😁 I often put stuff in a safe place never to be seen again.

Haha me too!

Allira Fri 19-Sept-25 16:53:05

I'm going to hunt mine down!

Lemon drizzle anyone?
