Islamophobia

Extracts from the The Observer Leader with which I entirely agree.

“Last weekend about 110000 people gathered in Whitehall to listen to Tommy Robinson and others spew hatred towards Muslims.

Their claims were baseless and their language abhorrent.

It was also actionable.

If the same rhetoric had been used about people who are black or Jewish there would have been arrests.

Whenever a community is dehumanised by racists it is dehumanised in the same way, with sweeping accusations of violence and menace with no regard for truth or the basic tenet of a just society that no one should be persecuted on the basis of their religion or race.

……………………
The Unite the Kingdom demonstration was a national disgrace.

Everyone who took part, even if simply by showing up and listening, was a bystander to hate; not free speech.

They are helping to spread fear amongst fellow citizens who happen to be Muslim.

Not seeing it that way is no excuse”

You only have to replace the word Muslim to Jewish to understand just how dangerous the rhetoric was.

This should never be allowed to happen again.

I could rewrite the opening post for you, and subject heading.
But that would be patronising you surely.

Or you could post a link[though not sure everyone can read one behind a paywall?] and then write something?

tbh, if newspapers are being inflammatory, then that fact needs to be debated at a wider level.
If they are doing that, therein lies a whole heap of trouble going forward.

Go on then! Rewrite it.

You will need to give me a day[have things to do], but I will.

I have made a start, but am I writing it as Whitewave2, or me?
I presume Whitewave2?

And is the first part all from the Observer? And the bit under the mini line, all from Whitewave?

I need the questions answered before I can proceed

Certainly not - because I didn’t write it - only copied it!

It’s a pity we can’t all just rub along nicely. The world would be a much safer place to live.

In which case
to help not be inflammatory to anyone anywhere

Dont call it the title you did. Write something instead like, an article from the Observer,

And, whoever wrote the article needs to be fired.
Or given lessons in how not to inflame.

😄😄 I should give up whilst you are slightly ahead or is that behind😄.

And really, the article is so bad, it ought not to be repeated. Did it?

There cannot be peace amongst Countries and Nations and neighbours, when inflammatory things are repeated.

The media needs to be kept in check.

I dont have access to the Observer[not sure I have ever read it, online or otherwise].
The media need to be accounatable.

fancythat Mon 22-Sept-25 15:20:13

Aim for peace. Not war.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 22-Sept-25 15:25:05

So I take it that you won’t be re-writing the OP ?

The Observer can now breathe a sigh of relief.

fancythat did you attend the rally?

fancythat Mon 22-Sept-25 15:36:33

Not sure what to do about the Observer.
Had no idea any Uk paper wrote things like that.
May see if I can contact them.
The article is beyond the pale.

I have never been to a rally.
Looked it up in the Bible last year. Whether Christians are supposed to attend rallies of any kind.
Pretty sure that exact type of thing is not mentioned in the Bible. But found the nearest verses I could find[cant remember what they were now], and thought I didnt think I was supposed to go to any.
Best I could do.

Oreo Mon 22-Sept-25 16:53:08

It’s just one journalist’s view who writes for the Observer, no need for anyone to worry about it or give it credence.

It is the papers Leader!! Not an article.

Honestly do keep up.

Jesus certainly rallied people.
He even managed to feed a crowd of five thousand with five barley loaves and two small fishes with some left over.

Of course, the crowd weren't Christian then, they were probably called Nazarenes.

Ww2 - you like to stir.
As you agreed on another thread.

I doubt I will participate much in this discussion as it is another stir thread.

My two points for now are, please say what you personally mean by your own title of Islamophobia.

And also what you personally mean by the term racist.

Those two words mean different things to different people.

What do you personally, mean by them?

The only people who allegedly don't know what the words mean are those who want to deny their implication (goodness knows why they would want to do that) and attempt to twist meaning.

I'm beginning to think I live in a parallel universe.

Do other people have a different version of the OP from me? I've re-read it a few times, but however hard I try, I can't see anything disgraceful or beyond the pale in it. All seems very fair comment.

Have I used the words disgraceful or beyond the pale?
Not as far as I am aware so why are you intimidating I dud?

How strange.

No! Not you! Sorry if you thought that. I assumed you were being sarcastic. Others claimed the Observer article was "beyond the pale" and a "disgrace".

The thread does seem to have taken a bizarre turn.

Oreo Mon 22-Sept-25 20:54:55

Most people haven’t heard of it and not many agree with it, who cares if it was the ‘leader’ or not, somebody wrote it unless it was AI 😂
Whoever wrote it wants it banned for the future….but not the protests or marches that the Observer likes of course.
