Trump attacks Sadiq Khan at UN 🤨

Trump attacked Sadiq Khan when speaking at the UN today saying he is a horrible mayor and imposing Sharia law on London.
What!!!!
Firstly what has our London Mayor got to do with Trump??
If Londoners want to critisize him so be it but Trump should just keep his nose out of it.
Also to say all that nonsense about Sharia law is offensive and blatantly Islamophobic.
The US ambassador in London should be called to account over this.

I have no idea whether he does or he doesnt, but how would that make sundown girl, Islamophobic?

I started a thread recetnly, and joined in another, where virtually no one would say what the word racist meant.

And there was a muddle over what the word Islamophobic meant.
Apparently that particular word may mean, fear of the religion of Islam. And fear of muslims, as only muslims practice that religion[probably still dont agree with that myself, but not confirmed it yet].

No, there isn't a muddle about what Islamophobia is. The only people who think there's a muddle are Islamophobes trying to deny that's what they are.

Trump's words. (I watched it this afternoon).

He did not say that Khan wanted Sharia Law; he said, 'Now they want to go to Sharia Law'.

Subtle difference, stop twisting what he actually said.

Trump loves to shock. Trying to deflect questions about why he hasn't resolved the Ukraine/Russia war in an afternoon as boasted by him.
Trump's on a roll at the moment. Sharia Law, paracetamol, what a load of claptrap he spouts.

🤣 I know! Was there any subject not covered, including his boasting of ending seven wars.

He even covered cows. What was he getting at there?

cows confused

I didn't listen to it (better things to do) but cows?

As for seven wars, which were they?
The American Civil War for one, or is he trying to start another one?

Cows producing methane gas Casdon which some people attribute to global warming.

Ah, yes.

Plant more trees. Win win.

According to CNN:

‘“We don’t want cows anymore. I guess they want to kill all the cows,” he said at one point, without explanation.’

It was not at a point he was talking about global warning FGT2, it was random.

Casdon Tue 23-Sept-25 20:55:05

This is the full ramble.

‘He went into digressions about his crime reduction efforts in US cities, Barack Obama’s carbon footprint, his own stymied efforts to renovate the UN’s headquarters, and the efficacy of windmills.

“We don’t want cows anymore. I guess they want to kill all the cows,” he said at one point, without explanation.

If there was a through line, it was his criticism of how most of the world — and the UN itself — is handling matters, and an accounting of how his approach is better. Even for Trump, however, the detours were striking.

“In Asia, they dump much of their garbage right into the ocean,” he intoned at another point.’
CNN.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 23-Sept-25 20:55:06

And on that note I burp you all goodnight. 😁

Last point.
Trump (I was watching) said “and then all this garbage flows into the oceans and washes up on the shores of Los Angeles and SannFransissco, right? But drop a cigarette butt on those beaches and get slapped with a fine. Crazy stuff. Priorities all skewed.”

Nanight.

I live in an outer London Borough. My neighbour, a plumber lost most of his customers because of ULEZ as his van was not compliant. LEZ worked in inner London but it made very little difference to many outer London Boroughs which are surrounded by countryside. Many workmen lost their livelihood because of ULEZ
Many roads in central London like Park Lane, Westminster bridge etc are gridlocked due to the new cycle lanes that are as wide as those for other traffic. All these idling cars and vans add to the pollution
Khan never answers direct questions. Knife crime is out of control in London. He was the only police and crime commissioner in the country who failed to recruit enough police officers.
Apparently he earns more than Starmer since his £5k pay rise which doesn’t seem right does it? I don’t believe our London Mayor is value for money

On another thread, you said that Islamophobia is fear of the religion of Islam.
Fair enough probably.

But you also said, in another post that muslims are people who practice Islam.
Again, probably correct?

But in a post from a week ago, you said that your son in law is a non practising muslim.
Which cannot be fair enough, going by the other two posts.
Which would mean he is not a muslim at all.
Fair enough. Yes?

The thing is, what he says is often based on truth but his delivery is so rambling and quite offensive that the message is lost.

Asia is responsible for the majority of the plastic waste in the oceans and this is a major disaster.
Of course, we dump our waste on these countries.

Sadiq Khan has been elected Mayor of London three times. Why trump should belittle him (again) today is hard to say. We all know he has a problem with clever black men and women. Just look how he refers to Barack Obama who hasn’t been President for nearly a decade. trump really is the worst POTUS ever despite all the lies he tells about how the USA are doing so well and how the polls are so wonderful. It was very interesting listening to what Sarah Smith said on BBC news this evening. Last time trump spoke at the UN the delegates laughed at him. This time they mainly kept quiet. Smith reckoned they didn’t want to upset him because of what he could do as punishment. Difficult times.

And Trump has been elected president of the USA twice. I don’t like the man but it’s not that he has a problem with clever black men and women. Khan was responsible for that silly baby balloon on the last visit and has bad mouthed him on numerous occasions. It’s no wonder Trump doesn't like him

Funny how Khan is so unpopular yet he gets elected three times, isn't it?

Trying to analyse a sppech Trump makes on anything is like trying to eat spaghetti with a knife- in other words, don't bother.

I think US politics is sinking well into the mire now after this complete debacle. I think it also shows that Trump never had a clue how to end a war or to fix an economy, and now the truth is getting to him and he's floundering because no one ever gave him any advice or stood up to him, they all just stand around and pretend it isn't happening...such blatant and unforgiveable cowardice...

Maybe he fixed immigration but why would anyone even want to go and live in that s**t- show of a country?

Meanwhile Mrs Trump's hats just get bigger...

Casdon Tue 23-Sept-25 21:49:20

It’s one of Trump’s least attractive traits. I don’t think there’s ever been a more petty President, you’re either on his side or you’re a bad person- he’s like a five year old picking his football team in the playground.

What he says is completely true. I remember seeing a prog about the pollution in the Ganges. It is like a floating filth and rubbish berg. It goes on for miles.

Very true.👏

The only question he answers directly are about his Father, the bus driver. 🤣

Casdon Tue 23-Sept-25 21:53:19

The USA only recycles about 5% of their own plastic waste, so the pot is calling the kettle black.

A bit like Gransnet these days!!

Allira Tue 23-Sept-25 22:10:19

Well, Khan should have attended the State Banquet, even if it went against the grain.

He is supposed to put his personal feelings aside and rise above that in order to represent the people of London. This was about the role of POTUS, whoever that is at any particular time. Others probably had to do that and Khan was wrong.

Now Trump gets his own back, petty, yes, but not unexpected.

Casdon Tue 23-Sept-25 23:05:21

Khan did not either seek or expect an invite to the state banquet though, mayors don’t attend. It was all another puffed up Trump untruth.

Allira Tue 23-Sept-25 23:08:29

Oh!

I thought it was on the news?
Or perhaps I read it on Gransnet.
