Trump attacked Sadiq Khan when speaking at the UN today saying he is a horrible mayor and imposing Sharia law on London.
What!!!!
Firstly what has our London Mayor got to do with Trump??
If Londoners want to critisize him so be it but Trump should just keep his nose out of it.
Also to say all that nonsense about Sharia law is offensive and blatantly Islamophobic.
The US ambassador in London should be called to account over this.
Take it with a pinch of salt!
Gransnet - I do!
So many lies about Sadiq Khan mostly from people who don't live in London. He wasn't responsible for the Trump balloons- they were flown by a protest organisation who were given permission to fly them by the Mayors office who also gave permission for similar balloons of Khan to be flown. I could list a whole load of useless decisions made by one B Johnson when he was mayor of London which people shouldn't forget.
Trump only talks rubbish and dangerous rubbish at that: his style is bullying, vulgar and crude.
This is the president who was caught out declaring that the way to deal with women is "to grab them by the pussy".
Says everything you need to know about this odious reptile.
Has anyone here read the predictions of Nostradamus? What is happening right now all over Europe was predicted by him. If people insist on burying their heads in the sand, the outcome he predicted will come to pass.
Trump is the only one who has the courage to speak the truth.

Wouldnt be a bad idea if you did, actually.
I am all for balance.
Is it true that he was only supposed to speak for 15 minutes but rambled on for an hour? Someone said on Sky News that if Biden had rambled on like that it would have been regarded as proof of his senility.

Can you post evidence to your claim that Sadiq Khan wants sharia law please sundown girl
Yes I would like to see this or a retraction. Because insisting that Khan wants Sharia law is Islamophobic.
Stating an opinion on this is not Islamophobic.

Trump is the only one who has the courage to speak the truth.
So giving voice to unsubstantiated claims that MMR vaccines cause autism, that paracetamol causes autism and climate change is a ‘big con’ is the truth? You think he is being courageous. I think he is a dangerous bully.

Islamophobia/racism is all about opinions.
Time to give this a rest.
Sundowngirl is entitled to her opinion without all the tiresome calls of racism every five minutes.

Yes, and I’m sure if we were talking about anti-semitism, the reaction would be different.

Stating that somebody wants something if they haven't stated any such thing is not an opinion - it's a lie.
Agree WWM.
Yet if anyone says something is Islamophobic it tends to get routinely dismissed.
Glad that remarks made about Khan will not, however, be dismissed and the US ambassador in London will be summoned.
Surely it’s ok to debate what a statement might mean ? I’ve seen no evidence that S Khan would welcome Sharia law. It is the kind of unsubstantiated comment made about many ethnic or religious groups and imo asking for clarity doesn’t equal accusing someone of bigotry. It means we should think on, something I wish Mr Trump would do.
He’s the dangerous one, not Mr Khan
That is ok Iam64 but the person in question voiced the opinion that Khan would like to bring Sharia law to London simply because he is a Muslim obviously.
As someone with Muslims in the family and Muslim friends I do not know one of them who even understands Sharia law let alone wanting to bring it anywhere. The majority of Muslims in this country do not abide by Sharia law, they abide by UK laws, and know as much about Sharia as Catholics know about Papal laws.
But the belief or opinion that all Muslims want Sharia law persists due to a racist trope being given air time by Yaxley Lennon, Farage, and Trump.
So it is Islamophobic to suggest a mayor who simply happens to be Muslim wants to bring Sharia law to London.
A person’s religion/beliefs should never colour the way a person is seen by others.

Exactly so.
I agree Babs03. In fairness, sharia law can be used by some Muslims to resolve family disputes. I suspect women come out of it badly.

Islamophobia/racism is all about opinions.
What is your opinion of each word please?
What do the words mean to you?
The dictionary defintion to me, of the word Islamophobic[though not the Labour Party I dont think as they are still discussing the meaning] is clearer in a dictionary, online or otherwise, than the definition of racist.
As I said on the thread I started, there seem to be about 6 defintions of what racist means.
Mr Trump was upset by Mr Khan on his last visit here, and is not famous for forgiving and forgetting.
He's doing lots of high profile, attention - grabbing talk to divert attention away from the economy of the USA, which is suffering from the effects of his tariffs, and the attempts to prevent release of files pertaining to friends of Mr Epstein.
Ditto!
I cant help thinking that using the words racist or Islamophobic is just name calling,.
Incidentally a persons colour also influences assumption about his/her religious belief.
I have a young member of our family whose parents came from Egypt.
People are always assuming that she is Muslim and she is subjected to very unwelcome comments, even though she is thoroughly western in her dress and attitude.
That ignorance stems from racism, because her colour is how people see her and nothing else.
That was in response to Babs03.

In the same way that using the term antisemitic is name calling?
