Is the country ready for a Farage government?

According to a poll on the radio, if an election was held today Farage would be in government with 100 seat majority.

Not sure what policies people are supporting.

Trumpland here we come.

Anyone wo supports Farage must be stark staring mad Hw the dickens is he going to finance all his empty promises? Give Starmer more time to trt to resolve 14 years of Tory miss-rule.

Couldn't agree more. You only haven't look at Trump's government to see the future of the UK if Farage is elected. A lot can change till the next General 3lection.

So you think taking poison out of food, getting rid of illegals and forcing Companies to actually open up businesses in their own country is a bad thing ?

Only from Genghis Khan's perspective.

“Small boat crossings of the English Channel as a significant issue began in late 2018, following the end of the EU's returns system, which made returning migrants more difficult. While there were some early reports in the 2010s and before, the number of people attempting the crossing and the subsequent political focus increased substantially from that point onwards.”

So, Brexit caused the small boats problem inasmuch because before this the UK could return asylum seekers to the EU country they came from. Apparently the Tories only realised this after leaving the EU.
And now Farage - the mastermind of Brexit - is saying he can sort this out.
You really couldn’t write it.
🤨

So if Brexit cause this illegal migrant shit storm please tell me was it Brexit that cause it in the test if Europe as well?

This is my first time responding, but I am an American grandmother who wakes up in fear in a daily basis. What dangerous thing will Trump do today? Which political opponent will he charge with an erroneous crime? Will my friends who are black or brown be arrested by masked, armed men in an unarmed black van, never to be seen again. If you have any steps you can take to avoid a similar autocratic government, do it now before it takes over and you no longer recognize your country.

Welcome Karenw.
Your contribution as someone living in the US is much appreciated.
And am sure many on here heed your warnings.
Those who don’t, as you are aware, should be careful what they wish for.

What do you mean, you have a full mandate?

A mandate is an authority to carry out a policy, regarded as given by the electorate to a party or candidate that wins an election.

a. Reform has not won a general election

b. What policy has Reform authorised you to carry out?

There are no policies and even if there were there will be no costings.
Is easy to tell some people what they want to hear, I could get a megaphone now and do it, but once in government the wheels will rapidly come off the bus.

No policies? I see you’re not a member as I have a full mandate from them.

Why is Reform only letting its members know what it intends to do? I would have thought it would want to encourage others to join, if the plans were so wonderful.

As with all political parties Reform UK's policies are detailed on their website under "our contract with you". It doesn't take much funding for anyone interested. Some of it is rather disturbing.

No it didn’t.
As I said in my post it caused the small boats problem and the difficulty of returning migrants.
Which is the big issue as far as Farage is concerned.
Not sure why you had a problem understanding my post.

*much finding

OldFrill Mon 29-Sept-25 14:06:49

Their "costings" are there too

meddijess Mon 29-Sept-25 14:07:23

Anything is better than the incompetent shower we have in charge at the moment! (Although that is how people felt about the useless Tory lot, and look what we got!).

Educator Mon 29-Sept-25 14:11:00

Oh dear! Many of us do not agree with you, dear!

Educator Mon 29-Sept-25 14:16:47

I find it very sad that we cannot debate political matters without some people being downright rude . Yes, I will be voting Reform and yes I am a Brexiteer! Oh and btw, I am educated and of sound mind!!

Educator Mon 29-Sept-25 14:21:29

Sorry, disagree with you!

Junglebub Mon 29-Sept-25 14:24:13

Educator, it is because we are well-educated and of sound mind that we vote Reform and are Brexiteers, without the need for spiteful jibes in the name of debate.

ViceVersa Mon 29-Sept-25 14:25:03

Oh, we're venturing into the realms of comedy now, are we?

Does anyone know of another forum for older people? This one appears to be being swamped. Obviously, they have the right to join but there must be somewhere more pleasant, where debate can still take place.

Wurzelgranny Mon 29-Sept-25 14:30:55

Terrifying...They ate being abetted by the media.

Racingsparrow Mon 29-Sept-25 14:34:17

Please tell me what are the fantastic things labour have done since the election.

Could it be the huge increase in energy costs. The destruction of private schools. The national insurance increase that has led to a loss of jobs. The interference in what is taught in our schools. The huge rise in salaries for their friends in the unions. The rise in boats coming across the border. The removal of winter fuel allowance. The moronic net zero push that is liable to lead to electricity cuts this winter. Having to import gas and electricity at spot prices to make up our deficit in energy.

I cannot understand why Gransnet can support this state of affairs, or does none of this affect you.
