Starmer Off to Egypt.........

........to throw in his ten pence worth about Gaza and fulfil his allotted role as fawning acolyte to President Trump in return for being allowed to sit at the Big Table.

Might be nice if Sir Keir could stay in the UK long enough to get to grips with problems on the home front. He always seems to be flitting abroad!

If you see/listen to a video that hasn't had the sound edited you may hear Trump call Starmer to "come here" - I don't know why anyone would believe Starmer was the sort of person who would push his way into anything to be honest!

There must have been some kind of agreement about the shape the meeting would take - who would be speaking when, what order items would be discussed etc. Starmer would not step forward to speak unless it was on cue following a prearranged format - he has enough court experience to do that. It would not surprise me at all to learn that Trump was the one not working to the agenda! It is not only that he has a habit of humiliating those who are working with him, he is also likely to forget what was planned and make it up as he goes along. He is not exactly a team player, is he?

Honestly, Starmer should have known better. Trump sharing a stage?

Trump can’t bear the spotlight on anybody else, he even does down and humiliates his own deputy and supporters. It’s one of his most unattractive traits.

Starmer was probably about to welcome the participants to the country (his country, where he is the host, and which has provided the venue they are meeting in and the security that ensures that none of them is assassinated by zealots while they meet to discuss the details of this critical ceasefire and a potential end to hostilities) That would have been a short polite introduction, and he would have stepped back while Trump went on to chair the meeting and get the kudos. If they have a written agenda, it would not surprise me if that was "Item One - UK PM welcomes delegates to UK" followed by "Item Two - US President opens discussion"

Trump has the chair - which itself might well have been reserved for the PM of the country in which they are meeting, but would have put DT's nose so far out of joint that he could have abandoned the whole project in a strop. However, the niceties of allowing the host a couple of minutes in the spotlight would be alien to him.

Keir Starmer is such an embarrassment to the country. We need someone who has some gravitas and he makes me cringe to be honest. He has also made 31 trips abroad since becoming Prime Minister. What a disaster he is!

I was just thinking out loud…

ronib Tue 14-Oct-25 11:10:40

Fair point but I thought you would know. Casdon

What role has the UN been given?

Google is your friend remember ronib. You don’t need to ask others to find out facts for you.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 14-Oct-25 11:04:40

Some of the real work is on its second day in the U.K. - just up the road.

Good to see real action in progress.

What role has the UN been given?

Casdon Tue 14-Oct-25 11:02:40

fancythat

Trump is a front man. He doesn’t do the grind. If you don’t understand the role, actions and influence of the UN in peacekeeping there is no point arguing about it with you.

So they got the peace and the hostages released?

I dont think so!!

fancythat that was not claimed, you are putting words into other posters’ mouths. You seem to deny that the real work has to start now that the Phase 1 agreement has happened, and that the UN will play a key role in that, which demonstrates a lack of understanding of how peace is achieved and maintained in my opinion.

Allira Tue 14-Oct-25 11:02:36

And no, it is in the Bible that there will always be trouble in the Middle East.
There will never be totaly and longterm peace there.

I fear the second statement is true.
However, not because it was written in the Bible, although that was a fairly accurate prediction.

ronib Tue 14-Oct-25 11:01:04

Yes I hadn’t realised how closely the OIC is connected to the UN. Quite scary in fact. Of course we shall never understand the dynamics involved. Casdon

Thanks for alerting me to the OIC which works very heavily with the UN. Casdon

If you checked your facts before posting you would have known about it already ronib, it’s not a secret?

ronib Tue 14-Oct-25 10:54:23

The UN are supporting Iran and Hamas??

fancythat Tue 14-Oct-25 10:52:58

^Trump hasn't really pulled off a peace.
He has pulled off a ceasefire and the hostage and prisoner release.^

That may be true.

And where are the EU and the UN?
More importantly the UN.

Absolutely nowhere.
Nowhre that can be seen, anyway.

Unles something comes to light in a year or 50.

Trump hasn't really pulled off a peace.
He has pulled off a ceasefire and the hostage and prisoner release.

He has a 20 point wishlist (almost the same as the previous administration).
And NO way of getting to a peace.

I think everyone is grateful for the ceasefire and releases though.

United Nations | Peace, dignity and equality on a healthy planet

Welcome to the United Nations
www.un.org › ...
As the world's only truly universal global organization, the United Nations has become the foremost forum to address issues that transcend national boundaries ..

From it's webpage.

A forum to address issues!
Aka a talking shop?
A "jolly" for some?

I have no idea how Trump has pulled off what he did.

And no, it is in the Bible that there will always be trouble in the Middle East.
There will never be totaly and longterm peace there.
The reason why I hardly contribute to any discussion about Israel.

Casdon Tue 14-Oct-25 09:59:56

All credit to Trump for what has been achieved so far fancythat. However there is no detail at all in what has been signed off as Phase 1 of the Peace Agreement, and it is currently a tower of playing cards, which is extremely fragile. Do you think that Trump and his team will be doing the legwork to build and maintain stability? I don’t.

fancythat Tue 14-Oct-25 09:58:48

So where was the UN?

Impotent nowadays by the looks of things.

Casdon Tue 14-Oct-25 09:55:04

Incorrect ronib AI is your friend. While the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has 57 member states, which includes a significant number of Muslim-majority countries, it does not represent the majority of the UN's total membership of 193 countries.

ronib Tue 14-Oct-25 09:50:17

The UN has a majority of Moslem countries and their involvement with Iran has been questionable. Trump has at least tried to make peace.
