A wonderful morning, the Israeli hostages are now free! Seven already back in Israel and another thirteen on the way.The image of the Berman twins embracing after their two years in captivity is so moving.
Am so happy today for both the hostages and their families and friends.😃

It is so awful that so few 'living hostages' survived this dreadful ordeal. I hope that all the bodies of those who did not survive are returned today also.
What happened to the women hostages?.

We don’t know.😞

The upcoming hostage release was the first thing I thought of when I woke up this morning, and I was delighted to see that it really was going ahead.

Truly wonderful news!

I didn’t sleep last night, I so wanted to watch and read of the first movements so I chose to stay awake,

Sorry if anyone has mentioned up thread and I may be wrong here, but I didn’t notice a single living female hostage released.

Unlike the Israeli hostages the Palestinian released prisoners have nothing to go back to. No homes, no state of the art hospitals waiting to look after them. A tent if they are lucky.

Israel should be forced to pay reparation.

Yes that is true.

It is also true that if Hamas hadn’t orchestrated the heinous attacks of 7/10/2023, Gaza would be intact…

The Palestinians prisoners have returned to the West Bank if they came from there so have homes and families.
Those from Gaza will have tents just like everyone else there.
Gaza will be rebuilt by the Arab countries nearby.

Not all of them have been released, including doctors and medics trying to help the sick and wounded.

It's good that they are all released. Everyone condemned the Palestinian people but Israel has made them prisoners for many years, and also land grabbing. I think there are terrible faults on both sides. At least this is a start to both countries having a fresh start and living peacefully beside each other.

butterandjam Tue 14-Oct-25 14:16:38

I did not want to watch the reuniting with family; it felt horribly intrusive .

Readjustment to home life, long lost family and freedom is probably going to be very tough and rocky for all parties , I wish them well.

Foxyferret Tue 14-Oct-25 14:37:42

I’m happy they are released but I did wonder were there no women/girl hostages?

I’m happy they are released but I did wonder were there no women/girl hostages?

The surviving women and girls have already been released.

Foxyferret Tue 14-Oct-25 14:55:41

Oh I see. I saw a few girls coming out quite a while ago. I didn’t know that was all of them, thanks growstuff.

daughterofbonniebelle Tue 14-Oct-25 14:58:07

Of course it's moving and a relief for those families. Those returned hostages will get a shock when they see what has happening to Gaza. 'Humanity' is mediaeval in dealing with this; Trump quite inadequate to prepare for this: Every international aid, medical, humanitarian, security & etc organisation should have been in place in Gaza yesterday: Hundreds of thousands of people milling around with no house, no food, no water, no security, no governance, no nothing. How in heaven's name can there be a constructive way forward?

escaped Tue 14-Oct-25 14:58:57

I thought there was one last female being held.
Inbar Hayman?
So probably killed.

mokryna Tue 14-Oct-25 15:21:22

I am very happy the hostages have been returned from their two year ordeal.
However, it is being reported that Hamas has control over Gaza city with people being executed, hundreds of checkpoints and probably in charge of food distribution.

Arto1s Tue 14-Oct-25 15:25:42

Thank you Donald Trump. He is constantly being accused of war-mongering, but in fact all he has ever wanted is world peace.

Dreadwitch Tue 14-Oct-25 15:37:11

No, it was thanks to a lot of people and trump was just one of them. Although we all know there will be monetary value in it for him and just how much he will brag that it's all his doing (he's already had a rant at Obama for not using something that didn't even exist when he was president and claimed Biden hated Israel and Jews, despite him actually increasing military support) just like he brags about things that have nothing to do with him. He claimed in his speech that he stopped several wars, in countries that weren't at war. This is the very same man who says paracetamol causes autism, that vaccines cause (specifically the MMR) cause autism and vaccines aren't great lol all while keeping up to date on all his vaccinations.
The irony of that man is hilarious.

And probably best not to dwell on what happened to those lovely young girls.

I have never had him down as a warmonger. He is many things but not that. He is trying his best for peace.

Don't forget that Hamas is still the legitimate government in Gaza.

I haven't heard/read anything about executions, but I would I would imagine they are the clans and militias which have been trying their luck ever since they sensed a power vacuum. It's rumoured some of the militias are backed by Israel, so they're no longer protected y the IDF. Gaza is in imminent danger of civil war. It's horrible to say but there are bound to be killings by Palestinians of other Palestinians.

If Hamas is in charge of food distribution and everybody is getting something, that has to be a good thing. I would imagine the situation within Gaza is currently chaotic. Somebody has to be in charge of distributing and co-ordinating the aid. If the civilian arm of Hamas is doing that, it has to be a positive thing until there is some kind of orderly handover of power.

😥

There was one mother who said she had wanted to buy her daughter a wedding dress, but will now need a grave with a candle to feel close to her. sad

ronib Tue 14-Oct-25 16:01:24

How on earth can Hamas be a legitimate government when the last election was held 20 years ago? Are you redefining democracy? growstuff

Ramblingrose22 Tue 14-Oct-25 16:05:24

growstuff - I'm not sure about calling Hamas the "legitimate" government in Gaza.

I think I read that they have been in power since 2008 because when elections were due they cancelled them.

I hope that new political parties will emerge to enable a proper election to take place in due course and that whatever "Board of Peace" is created that it allows Gazans to be represented so that they have a say in their future.
