Maccabi Tel Aviv football club banned

Aston Villa have banned the fans from Tel Aviv from attending the game. They say that after the violence in Amsterdam when the Jewish club was there that they don't feel they can provide the level of security needed to keep fans and nearby residents safe.
There have been clashes in Norway and Italy when Israel compete.
Aston Villa say it is not antisemitism but just being safety conscious.
Maybe another way could have been found without the ban?

I really think that points are getting lost on here.
Babs03 Why do you think me and Lathyrus are a team? Is that a tiny clique? We just agree on something is all.
Wyllow03 I agree with you totally that being Jewish or Muslim doesn’t make points any more valid ( it means our experience and world view inform our thoughts) but I also agree with Lathyrus that being too close to a subject can sometimes blind you.I do my best to not allow it to.

It’s increasingly difficult to discuss anything connected to Israel/Palestine on this forum without distortions or misunderstandings.
When did Lathryus and Oreo become a team? They’ll be a clique by the time I post this.
People are comfortable mentioning family and friends who are Muslim but don’t seem able to extend that acceptance to posters who are Jewish or have Jewish friends, or family. I have both fwiw.

Really? I hope that accusation isn't directed at me.

Iam64 Thu 23-Oct-25 08:36:51

Growstuff thanks. It’s good to know Yaxley Lennox’s desire to stir hate is recognised

Babs03 Thu 23-Oct-25 09:38:48

@growstuff
Isn’t directed against you is directed against me.
Is fine. Have now been patronised and insulted in equal measure.
But hey ho have presently got a tooth abscess so am off the dentist soon. Will tune in later in the hopes I can be sent to the back of the class again.

Lathyrus3 Thu 23-Oct-25 09:49:47

Well, I’m sorry if Babs thought I was being patronising. It was not intended that way. I very much respect the discussion I have had with Babs. She makes her views clear and without the need for personal insult and I would be much ashamed if my last comment to her made her think that I was doing that.

So to Babs I heartily apologise.

I do think her compassionate nature inhibits her ability to view the issue of public order in a rational way, just as my analytical and rather unemotional nature inhibits me from entering into a passionate support for either side.

The comment about Team Oreo is, well, just pathetic really. I wouldn’t hesitate to tell her if I thought she was missing the point.

I dont think any of my posts on any of the threads I’ve contributed to give the impression of someone who holds back in expressing her views.

I can’t help but think that Tommy Robinson is being treated in a very heavy handed way over the last police action. He was acting as a delivery man for a purchaser of an expensive Bentley when stopped by the police. The police demanded the pin number to his mobile phone citing the Terrorism Act. YL cited journalistic reasons for not giving the pin so he was arrested under the Terrorism Act. Also about £2k in cash found in the car.
Musk is paying for his defence. 3 months in prison if found guilty. Maybe I have missed some vital detail but this sounds barking mad?

Babs03 Thu 23-Oct-25 09:53:10

Whoops just caught this. No problems Lathyrus3, my last comment was an attempt at humour.
Now am off.

Since Stephen Yaxley Lennon's name has come up, posts on Facebook hint that his recent visit to Israel was not quite the welcome he was hoping for.

Ho ho ho! Israelis have gone up in my estimation.

It sounds like something from a second rate film. grin

I don't know about you, but I don't have too many friends who want me to deliver Bentleys and casually leave £2k in cash in the car.

I can't believe SYL doesn't have a number of phones for his various "activiities".

ronib Thu 23-Oct-25 12:27:44

growstuff you don’t need to worry about friends who need Bentleys delivered but I’m more bothered by the police trying to convict Tommy Robinson on what seems to be a ridiculous charge. Get him on any pretext? Really it will just add to his street cred.

I dunno! If the police saw me driving a Bentley down the street, I would almost expect them to pull me over, especially if they found £2000 in used fivers (or whatever) because I'd look out of place.

Why does anybody need that much in cash anyway? Surely even drug dealers use Bitcoin these days.

ronib Thu 23-Oct-25 12:38:00

Could you drive a Bentley? I am impressed Growstuff

ronib Thu 23-Oct-25 12:39:19

My bank allows me to withdraw £2k daily in cash …. Yes I was surprised but it seems a trivial amount these days ….

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/oct/05/uk-jewish-groups-condemn-israeli-minister-invite-tommy-robinson-israel

An interesting read especially the bit that outlines SYLs antisemitic roots. Indeed the thugs he has mixed with regularly sport swastika tattoos.
So either the Israelis that invited him and cheered him on are just so desperate for a far right Muslim hater that they will forgive his antisemitic proclivities, or they are unaware of this. Personally I very doubt the latter.
And of course SYL will ally himself with any cause that means he can flex a bit of racist muscle.

I have absolutely no idea how much money my bank allows me withdraw. I withdraw about £20 every couple of months, so I'm nowhere near any limit. But I'm not trying to dodge tax or hide illegal transactions. wink

ronib Thu 23-Oct-25 13:38:17

But it doesn’t mean that because Tommy Robinson has £2k in a car that that’s criminal activity…..

Indeed not! Tell that to all the young men who get pulled up in our cities every day. grin

The police will know a lot more about Yaxley Lennon than you ronib. He's hardly shown himself to be an upstanding member of the community. I'm sure he is being watched for the safety of others.
Makes me wonder why you want to defend this racist thug.

ronib Thu 23-Oct-25 13:54:16

Defending? More amazed that he isn’t allowed to deliver a car for a friend. The police should back off? AGAA4

It depends on what account you have it can be anything between £250 - £1,000 with my banks.

There is however 20+ questions when paying in cash and there is an upper yearly limit.

As for a Bentley 🤐

The police are only doing their job and tbh we really don’t know all there is to know about this story.

Maremia Thu 23-Oct-25 14:18:53

I heard a different opinion on his arrest. It might be of interest to folk on a serious Thread just now.
It was claimed that he wouldn't give his phone pin to the Police, who suspected images of an offensive nature concerning the underaged.

AGAA4 Thu 23-Oct-25 14:19:23

Yaxley Lennon was driving out of the country in a car not owned by him.
He was stopped by police because of this and they said he was acting in a furtive manner when asked about the car. If police ask for a pin on anti terrorist suspicions you have to comply. Why wouldn't he do this if he had nothing to hide.
I find it very suspicious especially knowing what this man is capable of.

Aaahhh! Life is so simple when you drive an old banger around and never pay cash into a bank. The police would be very welcome to have my phone PIN (if I can remember it - I usually use my thumb).
