Just listened to the BBC radio news.

Apparently a migrant who was flown back to France under the one in one out deal between Sir Starmer and President Macron has returned to UK on a small boat.

Who couldn’t foresee this happening 🤷‍♀️

So doesn't this just bear out the fact that there's no point taking the deportees back to France or anywhere in Europe? They need to be taken many thousands of miles away where coming back is not an option.

Echoes of the past here.

I await the inevitable now......

Reminds me of the sort of thing that people say when they trap a mouse in their kitchen in a humane trap and plan to release it back into the wild…

Will you and your alter ego kindly stop bullying me on this forum?

I have shared my experiences and thoughts on migration. I have also made suggestions, although I am a total amateur.

I believe we must treat other human being with diginity and respect and the current climate of hatred is frightening.

I am also not a complete fool and acknowledge fully that rescources are finite and cultural differences are a challenge. I also am aware that a small number of people are evil and wish to harm others.

This was a hastily introduced policy that relies on a chaotic French government to implement.

Dominic Casciani on BBC News last night, explained a little about the legislation that’s currently before Parliament for collaboration between UK, French and German border forces.

Watch from around 4 minutes in here:

www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m002l4cr/bbc-news-at-ten-22102025

This isn’t an issue than can be resolved quickly. Whatever Reform say, they would encounter the same problems.

Remember, Farage rowed back on saying he would have it sorted within two weeks of coming to power, saying instead, two weeks from legislation being passed. The kinds of changse they have suggested would be unlikely to get through Parliament in a term of office even if a Reform goverment lasted that long, which, looking at the shambles in Kent CC under LInden Kemkaran, wouldn’t be long.

We all know the issues here. The UK left the EU and put itself outside of Dubin III. The UK now has to rebuild cooperation and a legal framework with other European nations. It can’t be done overnight with sticky tape.

Perhaps. 🤔

What inevitable? What echoes?Speaking in riddles doesn’t help with this subject.

A complete mystery to me as well Oreo. 🤷‍♀️

Echoes of what has happened previously under other Governments?

Inevitable that popping someone back across the Channel to France means they will try again to come to the Britain I would think?

A Home Office spokesperson said: “We will not accept any abuse of our borders, and we will do everything in our power to remove those without the legal right to be here. Individuals who are returned under the pilot and subsequently attempt to re-enter the UK illegally will be removed.”

😂😂😂

They have to find some bluddy spokesperson to defend the indefensible.

I don’t know how they can say it with any kind of conviction any more. Most of us don’t believe a word they say on this topic any more.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 23-Oct-25 11:20:14

I bet so many posters saw the title of the thread GG13 and would’ve put money on it being started by me! 😁
Wrong!

Allira Thu 23-Oct-25 11:08:21

The Home Office is now trying urgently to return the back-and-forth migrant to France again, apparently.

Why not return the Boomerang Migrant back to his home country of Iran? 🤔

Migrants are given money to go back to their country of origin, not France, which is considered to be a safe country. He must have had money to pay for another trip but it wasn't taxpayers money.

Oh, ok, thank you.

Several other countries are refusing to take more migrants in so implying that the UK is so awful in not wanting them is ridiculous.

25Avalon Thu 23-Oct-25 09:55:07

We need to stop them coming in the first place. Then we wouldn’t have to send them anywhere. This was supposed to do that but as most of us knew, apart from Starmer, it wouldn’t work.

escaped Thu 23-Oct-25 08:32:48

Also send them anywhere where they will be looked after properly. Obviously France is not doing this well, otherwise why would they want to keep coming back to the UK, I wonder?

Goady.

Not necessarily StripeyGran. Send them to Christmas Island ( though that's not available!) for all I care. The point is anywhere far enough not to return.

It’s not a case of having a legal right or whatever, we just don’t have the infrastructure to cope with so many people with complex needs, trauma experience etc. our NHS is on its knees anyway, school places are limited and we don’t have the housing. We already have our own people sleeping on the streets. Whilst I am fairly sympathetic to their plight, we are a small island with vast cultural differences to them, especially in attitudes to women. I loathe Reform and a Farage, but I can see them leading the next government if this goes on which is terrifying.

Allsorts Thu 23-Oct-25 07:51:56

What a joke! How much money have we paid France yet? For what?

Dh said this would happen and he was right. Does the exchange get sent back to France? Thought not, so we have gained one more. Nice one Starmer.

Sarnia Wed 22-Oct-25 22:40:31

You couldn't make it up, could you? Who thought it would work in the first place? With the numbers coming in, a one in and one out system gets us nowhere.

Excuse I didn’t notice you had also added a topic on this matter.
As I mentioned I do hope the law that all who will be allowed to remain in the uk must speak an A level in English

That is on another thread, I think 🤔
