Just listened to the BBC radio news.

Apparently a migrant who was flown back to France under the one in one out deal between Sir Starmer and President Macron has returned to UK on a small boat.

Who couldn’t foresee this happening 🤷‍♀️

Where did he get the money from to pay for another trip!
Unbelievable!

Dorisdodar Wed 22-Oct-25 16:45:01

Didn't they get 2k to go quietly? I seem to remember reading that somewhere.

We absolutely are!

Did you see about the migrant who received ÂŁ25,000 compensation payout last week because he had been offended?

Apparently he looked older than he claimed and had a prominent Adam’s Apple so the authorities told him they didn’t believe him.

What’s wrong with just apologising to him and saying “Very sorry, but it was a genuine mistake”.

pably15 Wed 22-Oct-25 17:54:40

Yes Primrose ,I saw that too, there are no words, and obviously no brains either. never mind, Rachel will get that money back from somewhere ???

Calendargirl Wed 22-Oct-25 17:57:42

In this case, it was one in, one out, and one back in again.

Bit like the Hokey Cokey, just not amusing.

I don't understand. I thought returnees to France were being accommodated and looked after in Paris while their case is looked into. So why does he say the smugglers are onto him, and he doesn't feel safe? How does he get from Paris back to a boat in Calais 300+ kms away?

Grantanow Wed 22-Oct-25 18:59:00

Obviously a resourceful fellow. Perhaps we should give him some work to do.

There we are - ÂŁ2k of taxpayers' money straight into the hands of the people smugglers.

You couldn't make it up ........

The thumb method.

A Home Office spokesperson said: “We will not accept any abuse of our borders, and we will do everything in our power to remove those without the legal right to be here. Individuals who are returned under the pilot and subsequently attempt to re-enter the UK illegally will be removed.”

sundowngirl Wed 22-Oct-25 20:51:41

Casden the Home office has been “accepting abuse of our borders” for years with even the border force providing a taxi service to our shores

Excuse I didn’t notice you had also added a topic on this matter.
As I mentioned I do hope the law that all who will be allowed to remain in the uk must speak an A level in English

That is on another thread, I think 🤔

You couldn't make it up, could you? Who thought it would work in the first place? With the numbers coming in, a one in and one out system gets us nowhere.

Dh said this would happen and he was right. Does the exchange get sent back to France? Thought not, so we have gained one more. Nice one Starmer.

So doesn't this just bear out the fact that there's no point taking the deportees back to France or anywhere in Europe? They need to be taken many thousands of miles away where coming back is not an option.

Allsorts Thu 23-Oct-25 07:51:56

What a joke! How much money have we paid France yet? For what?

Sallywally1 Thu 23-Oct-25 07:54:28

It’s not a case of having a legal right or whatever, we just don’t have the infrastructure to cope with so many people with complex needs, trauma experience etc. our NHS is on its knees anyway, school places are limited and we don’t have the housing. We already have our own people sleeping on the streets. Whilst I am fairly sympathetic to their plight, we are a small island with vast cultural differences to them, especially in attitudes to women. I loathe Reform and a Farage, but I can see them leading the next government if this goes on which is terrifying.

Echoes of the past here.

I await the inevitable now......
