Net migration fell sharply in 2024, to 431,000 – 52% lower than its peak! Why not talk about that?
Well Rwanda was still on the table for half of 2024!
A great deterrent.
Migrants were messaging their mates. Many went to N.I. then travelled south to the anger of Dublin’s residents.
Yes the numbers did go down!
Ooh … then what happened DAR? Oh yes, Labour came to power in the July of 2024 and scrapped the Rwanda Plan immediately.
And the numbers coming have gone UP exponentially since!

Moving immigrants to army camps?

This is KS’s latest idea.
What do you think?
Better than hotels?
Worse than hotels?
Why do you think he’s doing it?
Most Sudanese don't want anything to do with either of the warring factions. There is no "good" side to fight for. My son-in-law's cousin (a doctor) was shot on the way to way to work and has a life-changing injury. His father is also a doctor, who had the opportunity to work abroad but decided to stay in his own country. The whole family has now abandoned their home and moved to Egypt, but don't know how certain their future is. Two sisters are in Egypt and another is a nurse in the UK.
There is another son, who is currently finishing his medical training and is hoping to move to Canada. There is no future for any of them in Sudan. The son is lucky because he's a medic and is in demand in many countries. He shouldn't have much of a problem getting a visa, but if he weren't a medic, I think he could very well be a "boat person".

Good point about the Ukrainian refugees. Women and children. The men left bravely fighting on.
Unlike Ukraine, there's a civil war in Sudan. There isn't an obvious right side to fight for.
So the answer is to leave and abandon the women and children to suffer their fate alone.
Apparently, the women want their sons to leave.
Families with women and children tend to go to Egypt (about 12 million have already fled). The single males are encouraged by their own families to go to Europe.

Maremia - The dog walker murdered yesterday wasn't treated like a human. The man murdered in the bank in Derby wasn't treated as a human. The lady careworker stabbed to death with a screwdriver wasn't treated as a human. The young girls raped in Dundee weren't treated as humans. The student Libby Squire in Hull wasn't treated as a human. I could go on but the people on here who are pro illegal immigration don't like these facts. They prefer to shout racist and accuse people of making up fairytales.
Can you point to anyone who has expressed pro illegal immigration beliefs ?
Talking about the law when responding to asylum applications is not the same as saying yipppeee let anyone enter the country and “give them everything”

Re men coming over here and leaving their wives and children.
I saw a programme recently, Panorama I think, and it featured one chap from Sudan or somewhere.
He had been here 8 months trying to claim asylum. I think he came in a dinghy, but not certain.
He hoped to bring his family, but this has been scuppered now by the government apparently.
He said it was too dangerous for him to stay there.
My first thought was, ‘but not too dangerous for your wife and children then?’
How they were managing on their own, for money, I have no idea.
My daughter's father-in-law, who is from Sudan and still has family there (although most have now escaped to Egypt) told me most of the men from Sudan are single - they don't have wives and children. They are the main targets of the opposing factions and families club together to pay for the strongest member of the family to leave because they think he has the best chance of survival. Yes, they hope to be able to bring other family members, but those remaining are quite to take their chances.

Casdon- I am sorry you misunderstood my post. Goodness me nobody regardless of gender, age, race, religion deserves to have a crime committed against them.
Why wasn’t that what you said though Bukkie? It’s a strange way of making your point, when all murderers are treating their victims in the same inhumane way, surely.
The numbers of people being processed have doubled under this government.
Now they are going to stop the money going to the same sort of sharks who have been raking in money (rather like the Covid inquiry has shown "friends" of the Tory government did at that time) which should have been used to increase processing.
If they can speed this up, if they can provide occupation, education, excercise, etc., in these camps then this could be progress.
At least they may be safer than they were living close to the louts of our society.
Casdon The point I am making is we have enough problems with homegrown crime and discipline without allowing unknown people into the country.

The problem isn't going to go away. Large swathes of the world are war-torn, racked by famine, or ruined by climate disasters. If we lived in those countries we too would want to move somewhere safer. A bit more of a do-as-you-would-be-done-by attitude wouldn't come amiss.
But why are the majority young men? Have they left their womenfolk in these war-torn countries to fend for themselves?
If we had had lived in similar circumstances my dad certainly wouldn't have left my mum and me to find himself a better life
With the Ukraine refugees it was mainly women and children that came here and the men stayed behind to fight. Maybe this is why they were more welcomed here than those arriving daily on the boats
Bukkie what exactly are you saying? Do you think that people murdered by anybody other than asylum seekers are treated as humans? I don’t.

The civil wars are more catastrophic than daft.
Sometimes the rivalry is caused by our increasing need for rare minerals, with which to produce our phones etc.
I wish more would be done to sort out the daft civil wars going on in African countries so their people can stay there and grow crops and build economies rather than just rush to Europe. As a matter of interest is there much migration east rather than west?

Shocking isn't it? To treat asylum seekers as if they were human.

They should be set to work to build their own hostel accommodation within a secure perimeter.
My above post was in reply to this post. The system seems to have refused it when I posted!
We didn't ask the prisoners of war in the last war to do such a thing.
They weren't put up in 4 star hotels either and allowed to roam the streets

Humanitarian principles and international norms that were part of Britishness, seems to have completely left some on this forum. Our sense of moral obligation to uphold the humane treatment of people in our care has left them raving about any section of society the can point to and group.

This is one aspect of GN that occurs frequently. Those who believe themselves to be omniscient, dismiss anyone else’s posts as fairy tales.
