What an absolute joke!

They deport him back to Ethiopia after accidentally releasing him from prison. They give him £500 to behave himself on the plane.

I imagine he is laughing the whole way home as will all his friends at how very stupid this country is.

eazybee

^Kebatu threatened to disrupt the flight^ were the words quoted on the BBC website, which certainly suggests disruptive behaviour actually on the aeroplane, not an application for a delayed hearing.
Semantics.

That was my understanding too eazybee.

I believe it was badly worded by the BBC..

This is the Sky News report.

‘The government, who confirmed he was escorted on to a plane at Heathrow Airport on Tuesday night, said he has no right to return to the UK.

But Sky News understands Kebatu was handed a discretionary payment of £500 as part of efforts to avoid a lengthy legal challenge after he made threats to disrupt his removal.’

I think the BBC meant he threatened to disrupt the flight leaving the UK by raising a legal challenge, not to cause a disruption actually on the flight. Given he waited outside the prison for several hours after he was wrongly released from prison, and was re-arrested with no resistance at all, that seems more likely.

It was.

It did sound in initial reports as if he was going to disrupt the flight by kicking off on the plane.
Later reports clarified this by saying he was going to start a legal challenge to stay in the UK and the £500 was paid to avoid all that.

Cheap at the price, as long as he stays away.

He really had no case to bring for appealing deportation but some lawyer may have tried their best to do so.

All in all £500 was cheap compared to what he could have cost the British taxpayer with cancelled flights, keeping him while he tried to delay possible deportation and a possible asylum procedure.

Let's hope we never see him here again.

I agree, though it does leave a bit of a nasty taste in my mouth. However, it’s a lot less than it would cost to keep him here in prison.

Incidentally, and I’m not in any way supporting this man nor his actions, but if you read his court transcripts, whilst it does legally count as “sexual assault” and he should be held to account, I very much doubt this case would even had got as far as court had it been perpetrated by a white British man.

My view is any asylum seeker, whether successfully see you in a bit then accepted here or not, should immediately been deported should they commit any crimes here and found guilty in court.

Its good riddance from me but women and girls are subject to sexual harassment and assault on a daily basis. Ive been pressed up to and groped on the tube and seen men expose themselves on more than one occasion including when I was about 13. Anyone would think this guy was Fred West the way the press talked about a manhunt. Could be because he was a migrant rather than one of our homegrown sleazebags?

Maybe someone who wants to claim asylum in this country should show some respect to British citizens.

It beggars belief that he would think his actions were acceptable and would not have consequences.

As for our home grown scumbags women and men should always report incidents, without knowing the police cannot act.

Sadly I agree. It’s about time men, ALL men stopped their sleazy creepy sexual behaviour towards all women!

Yes, we do have our own UK citizens who behave badly towards women and girls and I expect most of us have had to contend with one or more at some time in our lives.

However, as we seem to have enough of these scumbags already, do we really need to give sanctuary and a safe home to more?

I agree with Casdon, someone who comes to this country for safety and is then found guilty beyond reasonable doubt in court should be deported without delay.

Sorry I’ve just read one of my posts where auto correct has totally changed my sentence, which now makes no sense at all! It’s the last para and is utter nonsense! Sorry grin

I am SO glad that the "kicking off on the plane" thing is resolved though!
