That's good to hear Galaxy.

Iam64 Because the way they hold them is the clue. I myself have completed restraint training.

love0c Wed 05-Nov-25 07:45:14

Iam64 Also wearing large headphonex shouting out, swearing etc.

Iam64 Wed 05-Nov-25 08:09:14

Are you suggesting the people you’re referring to shouldn’t be allowed to leave their placements logos? ‘Shouting out, swearing etc’ whilst being escorted on a much needed walk isn’t something we need shut away

We used to have thousands of people incarcerated in huge Victorian hospital facilities. I’d hate a return to that kind of approach. It goes without saying that ‘care in the community’ has been even less well resourced because of austerity.

It isn’t tenuous, it’s true. The generation of working class YP caught up in knife crime are a direct result and consequence of austerity.

This guy would have been 17 or younger when cuts to youth services were made.

Thank You Jane, I think that was my point.

Everything cut, nearly all support gone. My family went to youth clubs and thrived alongside young people who were experiencing many many challenges. It was such a good place for kids who weren't sporty or academic ( refering to family member here)

It is exactly the same here in Australia. Mental health services are referred to as the Cinderella service - they’re not wrong. I have personal experience with a member of our family. It is dreadful, God help those who are suffering . Even if people are admitted they send them out far too soon when they are still ill. None or very little follow up services ( unless they do something life threatening, when it is too late)

Iam64 No. not at all. However, the safety of the public must be paramount!

Iam64 Wed 05-Nov-25 09:01:43

Of course. These escorted people are unlikely to pose any threat. They’re risk assessed. Appropriate supervision and it’s likely any necessary meds administered. These individuals aren’t a threat. It’s the people who no longer get necessary long term support, who go off their meds because of the side effects, who gradually become ill but because of social isolation and absence of necessary oversight lose their grip on realityn

Luckygirl3 Wed 05-Nov-25 09:15:28

I agree Iam - the only unsafe people with mental health problems likely to be on public transport on their own are those whose mental health follow up has been lacking.

Absolutely!

If someone had a pepper spray all this could have been prevented but he or she would probably be prosecuted as they are illegal in the UK.

Exactly my thoughts Grantanow

I don't think a bit of pepper would help.

The basic infrastructure has crumbled away to almost nothing.

It started with Thatcher and the Cult of the Individual. Cameron and Brexit ruined a great deal.
Gove and his frontal adverbials ruined Primary education.

And the sheep blame the so called illegals.

I’m not sure. I was thinking that when it first happened. On a different level I know but my dog has been attacked by other dogs and I wish I could use a deterrent. But if we all carried pepper sprays these incidents happen so suddenly and unexpectedly that, even if we did have a pepper spray, we’d probably have to look for it in our bags or pockets.

It's not pepper, it's capsaicin, causing intense irritation in eyes, nose, throat.

It is used as a deterrent but it's illegal for the general public to carry it.

The problem is that the criminals would be the first to use it!

Maremia Fri 07-Nov-25 21:23:23

Definitely do not get rid of the Guards.

Lathyrus3 Fri 07-Nov-25 21:46:12

Well the trouble with a defensive weapon (like pepper spray) is that it’s also an offensive weapon.

It just depends on who’s using it.

Grantanow Mon 10-Nov-25 10:50:13

Presumably issuing train Guards with pepper spray would enable them to disable an attacker with less risk to themselves and save passengers from being stabbed.

Criminals always get hold of weapons through a black market.

Train guards??????

That’s a blast from the past🤔

This really deserves a thread of its own, I was sorry and so sick to read the poor woman who was waiting at the bus stop in Birmingham minding her own business when some maniac came up to her and stabbed her in the neck, has now died. What a tragedy, as yet we don't know who her assailant was and whether he was another who hadn't taken his medicine or known to the authorities. These happenings are all too frequent. I read somewhere that the Bolsheviks let dangerous people out of prison to terrify the masses. There's definitely a public disquiet about random attacks by deranged individuals and dangerous people being let out of prison when they should still be inside.

Unfortunately there is no data which connects former prisoners with random attacks on the public. Just implying that former prisoners pose a danger to the public won't make it true.

Aveline Mon 10-Nov-25 15:01:23

How many do there have to be before they're counted as 'data'?

He has been named Djeison Rafael, who was out on bail for two counts of ABH on 7th and 27th October 2025…
