Just thought it should be acknowledged here.

I'm hoping, for the sake of America that this is the start of something better for both the Democrats and the ordinary people..

The last thing any country needs are the far left or the far right.

Allira Wed 05-Nov-25 11:38:40

I'm concerned about the rise in extremism of either type.

Oh you never know. It’s too early to tell.
It could yet be A Triumph for Trump (or Vance).
This new Mayor might bring chaos to New York - which the rest of the USA will note.

Why would you think that, New York has been Democrat for over 10 years, without chaos?

henetha Wed 05-Nov-25 11:43:40

Wouldn't it be great if the Democrats could come up with some wonderfully charismatic and intelligent candidate for the next presidential election.
Meanwhile, good luck to the new mayor of New York. I hope he does well.

Casdon Wed 05-Nov-25 11:47:34

henetha Obama? If the constitution is changed for Trump to stand for a third term, he could too. He is only in his sixties, so if he was willing that would be a fair competition.

Got to say I think Zohran Mamdani is very good looking isn’t he? His wife is beautiful. (Not that that has anything to do with his policies, just an observation!).

But nobody like the new ultra radical Mayor.

Obama was in my mind as I was typing that, Casdon.
Personally I hope the constitution is not changed. But if it is, then, yes, - Obama!

Somebody different, somebody who could command respect without being far left, a centrist who understands what the country and the economy needs.A new face, maybe who has served his country in the military? The next Democratic candidate has to be charismatic enough for voters to be enthusiastic about.

Hmm. I don’t think anybody would call Eric Adams a shrinking Violet Oreo. There is no getting away from the overwhelming vote for the Democrats by New Yorkers.

Of course, that’s democracy and Adams may not have been a shrinking violet but not as leftwing radical as the new Mayor of NW plans to be.
It doesn’t bother me as I don’t live there.

Always good to have horizons widened and look outwards.

I learnt a lot about the Bulgarian Health System this morning.

I think putting little smiley faces can be rude.

I also think deliberately leading a discussion off into so called " humour" is rude.

Tell us more… can you get a same day GP appointment there? If so I’m booking my plane right now.🤭

I think my above response fulfills your criteria.

DaisyAnneReturns your personal attack for no reason on Allira is indeed worthy of reporting.

I was delighted to hear that Mamdani won the election to become the mayor of New York City 👏👏👏

Grammaretto Wed 05-Nov-25 13:49:56

Good news!
I don't think he's extremist. He's charismatic for sure and probably ambitious. Isn't this what the Democrats need right now as an antidote to Trump?

My many relatives who live in New York and California are very happy as well. So too are my many English friends who have no connection at all with New York.
We all see democracy at work and people standing up to Trump!

MaizieD Wed 05-Nov-25 14:02:44

I think Mamdani's aspirational policies look fine,. I think he should add in a congestion charge, too grin

The wealthy who he proposes to apply extra taxes to, aren't going to flee New York in any significant number, any more than the UK would lose (or lost) a significant number of wealthy people if they were more heavily taxed (i.e. brought in line with the rest of the population).

His proposals are clearly attractive to New York voters. I hope he can implement them.

I did report it Oreo
It is just vile lies with no foundation at all.
It is libellous.

It is quite barmy in fact.

Oreo Wed 05-Nov-25 14:06:25

I reported it too.

Grantanow Wed 05-Nov-25 14:11:22

He has promised a lot before being elected. I bet he won't deliver much.
