Just thought it should be acknowledged here.

I'm hoping, for the sake of America that this is the start of something better for both the Democrats and the ordinary people..

NYPD officers have been looking to get out of there for years. In my greater city area, our police departments regularly fly to NYC to recruit from their officers. That has remained the case through both Bloomberg and Adams. So I don't think the argument is the burn you had hoped it would be.

As soon as the billionaires and (soon to be) trillionaires and corporations run out of money, we will worry about it then. Until then, they can pay living wages and taxes to ensure that millions of people in the US aren't standing on breadlines.

Sorry we wont think if the poor rich people while our children starve and we are homeless. That is why he won NYC. I expect to see it in more cities in the future.

Whatever Labour spinners may think Mamdani's success does not mean Labour will survive next GE unfortunately.

Well no it is a completely different scenario, the labour party doesn't represent the same views as Mamdani, the greens would be closer.

Imaround, I don't know what you are hearing in America but I am seeing reports that the Maple MAGA in Canada is collapsing. I hope this is true.

At the very least it is going to open up the conversation to a change of direction around the world.

Things change "step by step, brick by brick, stone by stone, day by day", as the song says.

Didn't know they had Maga in Canada.

DaisyAnneReturns Sat 08-Nov-25 12:44:53

There is MEGA in the UK Maremia although it should be MUGA as we are the UK.

I see Trump is claiming that the election was rigged 😀

Listening this morning and was heartened to hear that Trump is definitely weakened and that republicans may feel emboldened to push back against some of Trump’s policies, like ICE and tariffs.

It was also suggested that MAGA has peaked and beginning to fade away. Not sure of the evidence, but the turnout, especially in NY was enormous, and young men who had supported Trump were turning away big time.

Maremia Sat 08-Nov-25 13:55:18

You could be correct about Maga fading as Facebook, yes, handle with care, posts claim that Steve Bannon is expressing concern.

Canada has just announced that the Canadian economy has added 66,600 jobs in October, making a second constructive month of suprise employment growth.

The cracks are showing.

The SNAP benefit fiasco isn't helping his cause. He had now defied 3 court orders telling him he has to pay it for November and begged the SC to tell him he didn't have to pay it. They stopped it, for now.

That won't look good for him, though there are still people who blame the Democrats for this shut down, that number is dwindling every day.

Mamdani, the Democratic nominee in the mayoral race, secured 50.4% of the vote, while former New York governor Andrew Cuomo (who lost to Mamdani in the Democratic primary) won 41.6% of ballots cast. Republican Curtis Siwa got 7.1% of the vote, but at least he can go home and hang out with his six cats (he used to have 18).

The new mayor plans to make buses free, set up a network of low-cost, city-owned grocery stores, and raise the Big Apple’s minimum wage to $30 by 2030; funding for those changes will come from tax hikes on corporations and millionaires.

Mandami appears to have plane to tax the rich and corporations, well done him. The next state has higher taxes, it would seem a good plan, to me.

Plan - not plane

Thought I would bump this. Portland followed NYC and elected another self proclaimed socialist for Mayor. She beat out the establishment Democrat.

While this is not shocking for Portland, I think we are going to see this become a trend.

imaround, looks like the Democrats need to have a root and branch reformation. They have become lazy and complicit with the Republicans and the donors. Great to see that slug Cuomo given the old heave ho.

Imaround have you any thoughts on the general understanding in America re Trump's demands for Canadian Water and the reply he got from Carney?

imaround Fri 14-Nov-25 13:52:15

I do not. I will have to look it up. There is so much bs every day. It is easy to not see everything he pulls..

Maremia Fri 14-Nov-25 17:06:42

Hope the tide is turning, but some of those entrenched Democrats need to give their heads a wobble.
