Just thought it should be acknowledged here.

I'm hoping, for the sake of America that this is the start of something better for both the Democrats and the ordinary people..

Gosh Artois, on what information have you based your theory?

Arto1s Thu 06-Nov-25 07:19:55

Grandmabatty How dare you call me a troll? I only comment on here when I feel strongly about something. I didn’t realise I had to be on here every day for my opinion to count.

How are the ordinary folk doing in the USA just now Artols?
The soya bean farmers who lost the Chinese market?
The Portland 'Frogs'?
Seems like many ordinary folk have just voted bigly against Trump.

Arto1s Thu 06-Nov-25 06:58:58

Oh, and by the way, the new mayor of New York doesn’t believe in the Police. Really? Give me a break. Good luck New York, you have made a big mistake here.

Arto1s Thu 06-Nov-25 06:55:48

Socialism doesn’t work. Is it working for you now under Starmer?

I know I am right about this. He is bad news for New York. More fools them for voting him in. And where is all the money going to come from DaisyAnneReturns?

Do you now? Really? What special qualifications do you have to make these pronouncements with such certainty?

He is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America Arto1s . They advocate for:

Universal healthcare
Labour rights and unions
Affordable housing
Climate action via the Green New Deal
Democratising the economy, i.e., worker co-ops, public ownership of key industries

It would take quite a bias to the right to see that as communism.

Artols would be horrified by the UK, hammers and sickles everywhere, we're literally falling over them, as we make our way to our free universal healthcare and enjoy a 4 weeks a year holidays courtesy of the trade unions. It's so shockingly bad here. Sorry I have to do it, feeling a bit passive aggressive this morning....

Sigh.

The good news is that the Dems did very well yesterday Down ballot. It seems as though people have had enough of Trump and Republicans on this side of the pond. I watched the MAGA school board candidates get sent packing yesterday. On our own district, we were able to block both Moms for Liberty backed candidates. Bye! Your hate has no place here.

And who cares, right now, if he does have pie in the sky dreams. Our other option is fascism. We will take whatever wins we can get.

Tops to see you back, Imaround, much missed, keep on the info feed, please.

Why are we interested?

Isn't it totally obvious? Whats happening in the USA could be a "Reform" future.

It is indeed small minded not to look abroad in several and ask, "what would the implications for us be?

What use is any kind of politics that doesn't look and learn from abroad, both historically and in the present.

(sigh)

I am really happy imaround is back. I also never assumed gransnet was just for the UK.

Has anyone on here actually listened to all his speeches? He most definitely comes across as a Communist, and all his proposed ideas will take millions of dollars from the tax payers of New York. I predict they will not be pleased with this in a hurry. His worst fault as far as I’m concerned, is his very obvious anti-Semitism.

The Knesset would certainly like people to believe that.

History in the making. I am really encouraged by his election.

Because the US isn’t the UK Wyllow3 nothing like it.
Sigh.

What happens in America usually filters its way through to here though. Sigh.

We had a Labour Mayor first. Perhaps they are following the UK.

London has a higher population than New York City too.

Added to which, Sadiq Khan is a Social Democrat and Muslim, so NYC seems to be following London.

He is a bit older than Mamdani, though, and I don't think he has been a rapper.
I could be wrong.

This thread is about the new mayor whom the majority of posters are positive about.
I am very interested in what is happening in the USA and I am delighted with the hopeful news coming out about the various elections 😅

Do we normally acknowledge here who the Mayor of NY is?
Can’t think why.

Yes l agree. I also think the UK Media and the BBC and C4 in particular devote far too much time to US politics.

Maybe just a diversion so that don't have to cover really important events in this country that slip under the radar.

And barely get a mention.

Casdon Wed 05-Nov-25 20:04:14

There are strong parallels in the way the politics play out though Oreo. I’m surprised you don’t see that.

imaround you must at last see a chink of light. Everything crossed that this gathers momentum and it spreads out to the mid-terms and then the election😊.

But enjoy!

imaround Wed 05-Nov-25 19:52:35

That is true Maizie. I think it will all depends on how Republicans continue to handle things in the next 12 months.

Trump doesn't seem to be willing to compromise. He is definitely willing to let citizens starve in mass, so it is up to Johnson to right the ship at this point. And to do that would mean going up against Trump.

We will see.

MaizieD Wed 05-Nov-25 19:47:08

Thanks for your update, imaround,

There were clearly more elections ging on around the US than we heard about in our news media which concentrated on the NY mayoral election and the two state governorships.

Reactions to those elections from a couple of US bloggers I follow seem mixed. One sees the tide turning in favour of the Democrats, the other says that changes in these votes at state level don't always indicate change at federal election. hmm
