Mr Trump Accuses Ukrainians of Not Being Grateful Enough.

He reckons he hasn't been shown enough gratitude for his peacemaking efforts. Efforts that, apparently, consist of Ukraine practically signing away a lot of land, slashing their armed forces to meet Putin's approval and giving up certain mineral rights to both the Russians and Americans.

And does Trump want Zelensky to lick his boots as well?

I think Putin has lots of dirt on Trump which would explain why Trump toadies up to him and is giving him everything he wants.
There has never been an American president who has sided with the Russians to the detriment of his allies as Trump is doing, he's a disgrace to his office.
If Putin wanted to claim Alaska and sent troops in to take it as he has done in Ukraine, would Trump allow him to do it? of course he wouldn't but it seems fine for Zelensky to surrender a huge swathe of his homeland to suit Putin. It's plain to see that it's all about 'the deal' Trump loves to make. They'll split the mineral rights up between them and asset-strip what they can, hog-tie Ukraine, having denied them Nato's protection and reduced their army, then Putin will take over the rest of the country.
So what next? Poland and the Baltic states? If Ukraine capitulates, there will be no end to Putin's greed.
What a world sad

The question is there, in the shadows, does Putin have Kompromat over Trump?

Wyllow3 Mon 24-Nov-25 09:33:28

Oh, and I got the spelling wrong, sorry all, its Donbas

Wyllow3 Mon 24-Nov-25 09:32:54

Yes Ronib, they do... but that doesn't need giving away that whole chunk of land.

I just looked it up to help the thread - enough ports for both! I've posted the ref to the whole page, it's really helpful. Long story short - enough to go round without the Dombass becoming under Russian control

Yes, access to the seaports is absolutely vital for Russia as they have so little access to open sea channels.

This is really what this war is about. The Russian economy is struggling because of the costs of war and the sanctions which took ages to impact but are now doing so.

The fact that Trump can be making these concessions to Russia over the needs of Ukraine truly sickens me.

ronib Mon 24-Nov-25 09:26:10

Yes Wyllow3 but Russia needs access to the port in Crimea too? That’s the real problem.

Wyllow3 Mon 24-Nov-25 09:08:41

It is arguable that Russia has rights to the Crimea historically , but not to the Dombass.

But Ronib, we have to look at the "now", not allegations of what individuals might have done to each there in the past. I'm sure there was nastiness on both sides going back, but actual giving up Ukrainian territory is another matter altogether.

and it not just any old territory, either. Its control over the ports where the Ukrainians load up cereals for export, and the land itself one of the "breadbaskets" of the Ukraine.

ronib Mon 24-Nov-25 08:55:15

Does anyone remember reading reports of sustained killings by Ukrainians of Russians living legally in the now disputed territories before the war started?

What if Putin was trying to regulate and reclaim territories previously Russian to stop the slaughter? We have such unreliable information streamed to us daily that we fall all too easily to whatever the news media wants us to believe. We have erased memories of why Putin started this war and there were reasons given at the time.

Exactly Kalu

I feel so sorry for Zelensky, caught between two egomaniacs with no regard for Ukraine and its people relying on these buffoons to restore peace in their lives.

Wyllow3 Mon 24-Nov-25 07:07:24

Mmm, I rather think Starmer is quite cunning on this, he's done well internationally, and to appear friendly is part of the job - lets see the results?

Maremia Mon 24-Nov-25 06:58:00

Meanwhile, Russian ships invade our maritime regions, drop surveillance devices near to our underwater cables.
Ukraine is actually a 'front line' for Europe. Trump's USA is not acting as an ally.

RosesandLilac Mon 24-Nov-25 06:33:42

It’s only going to be a matter of time before Putin marches back into Ukraine and finishes the job. Poor Ukraine, it’ll be like a never ending nightmare for years to come.
Trump’s just showing how delusional and stupid he really is, toadying up to his pal Putin who’s laughing all the way to the bank.
I still struggle to understand how anyone could have voted for Trump, and Starmer is looking increasingly desperate with his awestruck behaviour towards the oaf.

mum2three Mon 24-Nov-25 05:29:55

I'm a supporter of Trump but I think he's wrong on this issue. Putin is being rewarded for invading another country. It will encourage him to do the same thing again.
Imagine if this was children fighting over a toy.One child wants what another has and thinks he has the right to take it. How would you deal with it?

I would assume Putin and Trump are mates and have been for years but they can’t admit it. What a mess - Zelensky damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t. The rest of Europe look on and sit back. Zelensky is becoming unpopular at home apparently which is another issue.

Homestead62

I'm seriously wondering what on earth is going on. Something definitely isn't right with all this.

I think you are right. The smell of fish is overpowering.

NotSpaghetti Mon 24-Nov-25 00:56:54

The peace plan was apparently really a Russian "wish list"

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the 28-point document was "essentially the wish list of the Russians" and was created in Russia, not America.
He later denied saying this but several people seem to have heard him.

Zelensky has a terrible decision to make with this rotten peace plan.
It makes my blood boil the way Trump
persistently blames Ukraine for the war. Why can't, or won't, he see the truth. Putin must be laughing his socks off.

I'm looking forward to the memoirs of people who are currently having to pussy-foot around Trump. And I hope he reads them.

Mollygo Sun 23-Nov-25 22:31:39

Gratitude for an arrangement that gives Putin what he wants, with no guarantee that he would keep his side of the arrangement?
What planet does Trump live on?

Smileless2012 Sun 23-Nov-25 22:24:14

He may admire Putin Witzend but I think there's more to it than that.

ronib Sun 23-Nov-25 21:31:51

Seems a bit premature for Ukrainians to give thanks to Trump. Peace seems a long way off? The EU doesn’t seem on board with Trump’s peace deal either. It’s all a bit depressing…..

NanKate Sun 23-Nov-25 21:27:33

Trump is now delusional. His staff have to agree with him or they are TOAST😏

He is a laughing stock and Idiot of the greatest proportion.
