JaneJudge

Why don’t they just tax fat people more so they drink less milkshakes?

^this is basically what they are doing
Why can’t they educate ppl

Because body shaming is not a cure for many illnesses which cause people to be overweight?

Mollygo Tue 25-Nov-25 23:24:18

Thanks W3 for a good example of bragging. What has your child and spouse got to do with the number of people with multiple children who can’t afford them?
Unless despite being a professor it’s not a well paid job.
There’s having children you can afford, that unforeseen circumstances later mean you can’t. No one can help that. Then there’s having more children than you can afford to start with.
That’s a bit racist, bringing in immigrants don't you think?

Attack the kids, they can’t fight back because they don’t have a vote. Good idea Wretchel.

Aveline

DaisyAnnReturns were you not around in the 70s and early 80s then??

Yes, the mortgage rate was pretty high bank then, as I recall.

And yes, I know there was MIRAS, but it still took all my part time salary to pay our mortgage on our little terraced house, back in the early 80’s.

Perhaps you could tell me what this refers to Aveline. I don't read minds.

Mortgage interest rates of 15% and high levels of unemployment for example DaisyAnnReturns

Well said Mollygo I agree with you.

Wyllow3 Wed 26-Nov-25 08:37:08

Oh so predictable 🤣

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 26-Nov-25 09:02:01

As are your posts Wyllow.
We all have our own (often immutable) take on topics under discussion.
That’s life.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 26-Nov-25 09:09:06

There is no limit to how many children get Child Benefit in a family, you can have as many as you like and receive it,

There is a limit on the amount of children you get Universal Credit for, big difference.

Those on UC still receive Child Benefit for every child, just not any extras in the way of UC for third or more child/ren

There does seem to be some confusion on this, it is not always explained clearly in the media or by politicians.

Mollygo Wed 26-Nov-25 09:24:36

Oh so predictable 🤣

Predictable that you brag about your family W3 or predictable that you bring in immigrants or both?
If you say so.

MaizieD Wed 26-Nov-25 09:34:51

Well, we do have a dilemma, don't we? We are turning so anti immigration and racist that no-one will want to come and work here. And many former immigrants who do, especially the skilled ones are reportedly leaving for countries that don't hate them so much,

Thanks to the post war baby boom our population is heavily skewed towards the elderly, who will need support from upcoming generations.

But hey, the elderly aren't terribly keen on the idea that their potential future home grown supporters should grow up in a secure and reasonably healthy environment should they happen, through no fault of their own, to be over the acceptable quota of children born to the less well off.

There are some shocking posts on this thread.

GrannyGravy13 [Wed 26-Nov-25 09:09:06]

Useful clarification. Thank you.

DaisyAnneReturns Wed 26-Nov-25 09:55:26

"There are some shocking posts on this thread."

People in general have been taught to shock, sadly. "Find a wedge issue and hammer it home" has always been the way of extremes, be they right, left, poor or rich, they will encourage this and their supporters will follow.

Sadly, it's one group, the ultra-rich (some/most of them very nice people) who, because wealth is power, now rule many previously democratic countries. In some we will see obvious dictatorships, in others puppet governments, while each hoping our wn government is brave enough to turn this around.

Mollygo Wed 26-Nov-25 09:57:29

And many former immigrants who do, especially the skilled ones are reportedly leaving for countries that don't hate them so much,
I can’t find a source for the above reportedly. Please could you help?

You make the same point as I did
should they happen, through no fault of their own, to be over the acceptable quota of children born to the less well off.

If you are a well off pensioner with income higher than £35k you can afford £4 a week to pay for better social services, everyone else on that income will be contributing as well.
It’s simple pensioners use a high proportion of NHS and social services if you can afford it you should pay more.

That is the government logic

I agree with that and it's probably simpler than charging all pensioners a reduced rate of NI.

Allira Wed 26-Nov-25 13:17:10

We are turning so anti immigration and racist that no-one will want to come and work here.

Hang on - who are you meaning by we?

I'm hoping that the latest immigrant to join our family will be able to stay because if she left she'd be a loss to this country and her new DH would be going with her too.
Some of the new rules, brought in as a knee-jerk reaction to the problems with migration at the moment are aimed at those who have been here for years, made their lives here and contributed to this country.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 26-Nov-25 13:19:33

This government doesn't want anyone to run a business or give anyone a job.

The Government's White Paper in May makes it more difficult for people to move to and settle in the UK.

If we were younger we'd emigrate.

Babamaman Wed 26-Nov-25 13:54:05

And the media will rant and carry on for weeks !
I’d like to know what isn’t taxed? Just remove all taxes! Let us keep our money and spend spend spend!
There isnt a party that won’t raise taxes

GrannyGravy13 Wed 26-Nov-25 13:59:25

The only plus I can see after listening to RR’s budget is that we may consider taking on an apprentice if (and it is a very big if) what she says about apprenticeships being fully funded by the government is applicable to our SME.

Lifting the two child Universal Credit cap will be popular with her backbenchers.
