Terrible news of a mass shooting at Bondi Beach, Jewish people gathering for a celebration of Hanukkah there. One extremist gunman killed by police the other in custody.Nine people dead including a child.Police searching for possible bombs now in the area.

These murders, along with other attacks on people of the Jewish faith is anti-Semitic.

No question.

Nothing else come into the equation.

Allira Tue 16-Dec-25 10:55:35

No question at all, Whitewavemark.
The rise of anti-Semitism in Australia has been extremely worrying.

I want to weep every time I think of this atrocity and some posts on here are making me more upset.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 16-Dec-25 10:56:05

I think that the question that needs asking, is , what on earth is happening to society that appears to be tolerating and indeed encouraging so much racial hatred?

Whitewavemark2 Tue 16-Dec-25 10:59:20

allira the rise of anti-Semitism along with racial hatred is everywhere.

Allira Tue 16-Dec-25 11:06:46

Yes, it is Whitewave and it is frightening.
It seemed particularly worse in the Sydney area though.

There has been a succession of attacks on Jewish premises, mainly in the Sydney area, since 2023, arson attacks on synagogues and even two nurses threatening to kill Jewish patients in a Sydney hospital.

AGAA4 Tue 16-Dec-25 11:16:16

I don't understand and never have why some people hate Jews. It's completely beyond my comprehension. Jewish people in my experience just want to live in peace and get on with their lives. They don't harm others so WHY??

Wyllow3 Tue 16-Dec-25 11:53:54

This short film (13 mins) is very moving and traces the origins of antisemitism back to early Christian times. It's produced by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

I wonder why my post was deleted when all I said was there are no excuses and no explanations to justify antisemitic attacks? Surely pointing out that this latest attack was evil isn't cause for deletion?

ferry23 Tue 16-Dec-25 12:04:15

I'm not sure who it was I "personally" attacked to get my original post deleted? (Well actually I'm sure I didn't attack anyone personally).

I naturally, but sadly mistakenly, assumed that as this site is littered with blatant anti-semitic posts - but generic ones (some of which are very offensive), that those of oppossing views could do the same.

Rosie51 Tue 16-Dec-25 12:07:08

ferry23 I didn't 'personally' attack anyone either.

Anniebach Tue 16-Dec-25 12:08:58

Can it be disagreeing with an opinion is a personal attack? surely not

AGAA4 Tue 16-Dec-25 12:10:50

Thank you Wyllow I have watched the film and better understand the history and the part the Christian church played.
I still find it unbelievable that in 2025 people are still adhering to old hatreds from history.

Wyllow3 Tue 16-Dec-25 12:18:36

It makes me think that sadly societies in general, when there is much trouble or poverty and anger:

Then leaders seize upon the chance to blame "others and the history of hatred against the Jewish peoples was so well entrenched it persisted and persisted.

In the film it shows that when a society was flourishing and generally open, the hatred diminished: when it was deeply troubled, then leaders generally and some priests bitterly turned blame onto this group.

The myths perpetrated, as seen in the film, were truly horrifying: what it will take to let go of it I just cannot tell.

Anniebach Tue 16-Dec-25 12:27:56

You spoke of reasons yesterday Wyllow

eazybee Tue 16-Dec-25 12:28:10

A good idea then, not to keep repeating them.

Oreo Tue 16-Dec-25 12:33:53

Anniebach

You spoke of reasons yesterday Wyllow

There are no reasons, it’s totally unreasonable and evil to murder anyone because they have a different race or religion to you.
How anyone can find reasons or explanations is beyond me.🤬

Wyllow3 Tue 16-Dec-25 12:42:05

If we do not seek to find out how things have come to be as they are, we are the more helpless to be able to change them. The film above shows how certain traits came to be.

I’m catching up and haven’t time to watch your clip Wyllow. Will do later

Hoover I can’t understand your comment that it shows “how certain traits came to be”. It’s simple, Jews have been subjected to pogroms, to being driven out of places they thought were safe, prevented from certain professions, from owning property - since time began. They’re the only race that a political ideology decided should be wiped out. Israel is surrounded by people who would follow the holocaust, kill Jews and eradicate the state of Isreal

Attempts to understand how certain traits came to be feels like more victim and less perpetrator blaming

Anniebach Tue 16-Dec-25 13:07:56

👏👏👏 Iam

Wyllow3 Tue 16-Dec-25 13:15:47

If you watch the film Iam is is very much not about victim blaming, it is about the vicious treatment and religious persecution visited upon Jewish people for centuries, and is very specific. It is absolutely clear who the victims and who the perpetrators were and how some still are.

It looks at specifics of why they were driven out, why they were not allowed to own property, why the dreadful myths of bleeding children to satisfy some primeval evil grew up.

In other words, although we know about programs and property and the ideology around the accusations of genetic defects, it shows who built the myths and the hatred.

Wyllow3 Tue 16-Dec-25 13:24:02

Ah, I think this is where the misunderstanding lies - I am talking about the traits in the persecutors, those who have done evil, not the victims

GrannyGravy13 Tue 16-Dec-25 13:28:11

The Australian government has said that there is a link between the murderers and the Islamic State.

Thank goodness they found the IED’s in these evil people’s car, or there would have been many more casualties and probably deaths.

I really hope that the surviving murderer is well enough to be charged and left to rot in his cell.

Oreo Tue 16-Dec-25 13:32:46

I don’t think there’s any misunderstanding Wyllow3 none at all.
We don’t need to delve into ancient history, most here will already know of it and don’t need to be told.
The murders on Bondi Beach were carried out by Muslim extremists just as very many attacks carried out on Jews worldwide are and upon Christians too and those of no faiths.
Jews are particular targets but any Westerners are considered fair game by those who hold twisted views.
