Woman shot and killed by ICE officers in Minneapolis, Minnesota
(985 Posts)Yesterday there was a very tragic shooting of a woman leaving the scene of an Immigration raid/incident . The video clips are very disturbing as she is shot and killed by an officer after she was given conflicting information by two officers . One who told her to leave and another who told her to get out of the car.
She was killed by a third officer who was to the side of the car . I can only advise you not to watch the clip if you feel it might be disturbing . I was able to read a good account of it in the NYT and it definitely looks and reads like she was murdered.
She was a white, US citizen not a target of the raid.
I truly feel like the USA is imploding from the inside out and that Trump is creating fires of danger everywhere.
Sorry LemonJam, that was to Oreo.
Yes, it is worth continuing this discussion and some of the offshoots it has stimulated.
We have a Thread!?
MaizieD- thank you for your update. Good to know Renee Good's family is legally represented and has carried out an independent autopsy.
This thread is nearly at its 1000 post end. Some if us may have an interest in the investigation outcome reported and what legal action, if any Renee's family may take so would like to keep discussion going in that context?

If Posters are on this Thread, then they are interested in the topic. Doesn't make sense otherwise.
But…this thread is about a specific subject and has nearly reached the end.If anyone is really interested in the US and its internal affairs/ policies then start a thread.
Thanks for the update MaizieD.

Renee Good’s family’s lawyer has released the results of an independent autopsy. It found tgree ‘bullet paths’.
One gunshot struck her left forearm, causing soft tissue damage and hemorrhage
One gunshot wound traversed the right breast without penetrating major internal organs
One gunshot entered the left side of her head near the templeand exited the right side of her head
Clearly the first shot (from the front of the vehicle) was not the fatal one.
This intensifies the horror for me..

This is too sad - but we need to know so thank you for braving the reading of the information and bringing it to us.

Things happening in the USA , for as long as Trump is 'in charge', matter worldwide, especially when you see the list of charities/aid agencies that Trump is defunding.

It’s a narrow view of the world if you aren’t interested in the domestic affairs of other countries, because good ideas for societal change come from all over the world. I think when domestic situations are volatile the interest ramps up - for example French politics have often been discussed on Gransnet. The more closely aligned to a country we are, the more we want to know and discuss.

Of course, Oreo, some posters have family and friends in the USA, so have an interest in internal politics there.
I was interested in such matters under the previous presidents, too, actually.
Of course we can be interested in what happens in other countries, just as those who may live in other countries might take an interest or even criticise what happens in the UK, especially if they were born here or have family here.

I was listening to commentators today talking about Trump’s performative actions on the world stage.
The trouble is that logic dictates that he has to continually ramp it up until the unthinkable.
I wish I hadn’t heard that as it made sense.

Wonder why some Posters keep trying to close down discussion?
Never works. Just helps to keep the Thread thriving so, not complaining. Just wondering.
Who’s trying to shut down any discussion? This thread will no doubt reach the full 1,000 as many threads do in news and politics.
If anyone is interested in Medicaid or any other internal US policies then start a thread on it right now.

I would guess it's not surprising that those who support performative politicians tend towards performative discussion?

Nobody was interested when Biden was in office or Obama.
I don’t agree Oreo, but that’s fine. From where I’m sitting, US domestic politics has always been followed abroad; just more closely when it looks likely to affect others.

"With the soon ending of this thread I do hope to see justice for Renee Good and her family. I know it will take time but I do think the truth of her tragic last day will come to light".
I share your sentiments Syracute and really hope so.
This was posted on bluesky this morning.
Apparently ICE are pulling in non white off duty cops...

Why would anyone other than US GN members be interested in internal affairs there? Are we interested in France’s internal affairs or anywhere else? I think the preoccupation with DT is going a bit far now.
His foreign policies are the only ones that need concern us, and there’s plenty of them.
Do we/you really live in a world where internal developments in major countries don’t concern anyone beyond their borders? History suggests that domestic political shifts often shape foreign policy, alliances, economic stability, and even global norms.
Paying attention to internal affairs isn’t necessarily obsession—it can be a way of understanding what may affect our shared future.
