BBC has recently posted this. They are now telling Cuba they must make a deal or suffer the consequences! Last time this happened we nearly had a nuclear war USA v USSR!

This is a bit of a frightened time.

Yes, very scary what is happening in the world as a direct consequence of Trump.

Sadly we have half brained dimwits in the UK who think Trump is great. Farage admires him and supported his campaign. He wanted to work with him in the USA until Musk put a stop to that. Farage has copied Trumps tactics - flag waving loony tunes calling themselves 'patriots' blaming migrants for everything that is wrong with the UK. They rely on poorly educated and self interested voters to back them and repeat their short slogan mantra while not showing in any way they can deliver any lasting change at all.

He is not alone though. Reading the Pope's Christmas message was a terrifying list, Urged an end to wars Ukraine and the Middle East, asking for justice and stability for Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen, Israel, and Syria, plight of the vulnerable like those in Gaza. He mentioned Latin America, Myanmar, Thailand/ Cambodia conflict, and areas of natural disaster.

Trump wants peace - a little peace of Greenland, Cuba, Mexico, and Canada.

The world feels so unsettled now. He's 80 in June and has had his life, so probably doesn't care. I think there should be an age limit for world leaders.

There are people in the UK who think Trump is right in many ways, StoneofDestiny, but many more are horrified at his warmongering. I know people who have concerns over the levels of immigration who are just as concerned as I am with the way Trump appears to be out of control along with the consequences of such a policy for the stability of the world.

I have always disliked Trump intensely and his policies. He has just borne out what I thought would happen. There's only one person's interests in the world for Trump and that is his.

Well stated ..

Do note: Vance is worse as he is a total imbecile and imbeciles are highly dangerous ! They should send him and his wife to India !

I don't think he is an imbecile. I don't know if you listened to the three episodes of the podcast about him on The Rest is Politics, but he is a much more complex character than that. He is certainly not stupid.

On the other hand, there are Americans out in the streets shouting "Trump must go" after the death of the poor woman shot by an ICE agent.

We haven't heard that before, have we?

The full video clearly shows the woman nearly ran the officer down and ignored all instructions to get out of the car.

Grantanow Tue 13-Jan-26 13:38:05

I suspect many Cubans would like to see the back of their Communist regime.

Another vote for Heather Cox Richardson here. Her explanations are so clear and well researched as well as beautifully written. There is no hysteria or fulminating just clarity and connection of one thing to another. I highly recommend her work if you want perspective and understanding.

On the contrary, it showed that she was getting instructions from another officer to clear out of there. Also, ICE had no authority to make her get out of the care. They completely overstepped their authority in more ways than one.

What? Do you mean when we heard a voice saying, drive, baby, drive?

That was her wife.

icanhandthemback Tue 13-Jan-26 14:35:24

No, there was another ICE officer telling her to get out of here. Go through the video's again.

It is a very scary time here in the U.S. I have never voted for this want to be dictator that is currently in power. Like many other posters in this have mentioned, there is more behind him that are worse. Quite frankly, I have always believed he is too much of a moron to have actually made it on his own. There has been orchestration behind the scenes for decades, to set up the house of cards this idiot is gleefully toppling.

Also, do not believe everything you see. This country is severely divided, much closer to 50%. I have never believed the majority support this regime. The problem as I see it, is those that chose to not participate (vote) in the last election because they were bigoted enough to refuse to vote for a black woman.

Then there is the about 30% of the country that have drunk the Koolaid, as I like to say. Those that believed every vile word out of the orange emperor's gob smacker.

Now, which is too late by far, as far as I am concerned, people are starting to wake up. They are finally at the Find Out part of FAFO. So much damage has been done to our country, I doubt that we will ever completely recover. At least not in my lifetime.

There are Constitutional means of removing the orange stain from the presidency, but those take time and I am afraid of what those behind him will do. Elections are taking place rapidly and will continue throughout this year. The stranglehold of the MAGA party (I refuse to legitimize them by calling them Republicans) is loosening and will be ripped from the throat of the U.S. government. I just pray we can do it quickly enough to mitigate the damage being done to the world at large, and to prevent a world war.

The idiot in office is doing his best to screw that up as well. We have a toddler in office with no parents and a with two passive siblings giving him candy, patting him on the head, and telling him what a good boy he is, while he paints the walls with his feces.

You think you are sick of it? I have been living much closer with it, but it is even worse because I did my best with my vote, and my attempt to spread the word to help others wake up and vote to stop it for over a decade. I never in my wildest dreams, ever thought that the U.S. would end up this way. I even served my country in the military to prevent shit like this, yet here we are. My disappointment, my embarrassment, and my anger are off the charts.

My apologies, if I offended anyone here. I truly do not want to offend, but I also feel the need to express my emotions on this, and to let you know that not all U.S. Americans are heartless morons that do not care, and cannot see past the ends of their noses.

Good grief, you certainly haven’t offended me in any way and I thank you for your bluntness and openness and courage for saying it as you (and many of us) see it.

I can only wish you luck and stand virtually beside you my friend flowers

What and replace it with a Cuban hating American lunatic?

I think there should be mental health assessments for all world leaders

Maremia Tue 13-Jan-26 19:13:07

Trump has been having those tests which to folk who know, look like tests you get after a stroke or to measure your dementia.
He is still in the job.

Aveline Tue 13-Jan-26 19:52:31

He's being referred to as 'Trump and his handlers'. They're dangerous. He's a bumptious front.

They may want and like a normal capitalist society there with no sanctions.
Or they may not, the choice should be theirs and i hope it will be.

Allsorts Wed 14-Jan-26 03:57:41

His days are numbered, he is 80. I always found him intensely embarrassing to listen to and now he's running the country but money talks. How can a warmonger be considered for The Peace Prize.

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 14-Jan-26 11:32:21

When I visited Cuba people spoke with pride about how their country was run, and were aware of the fact that America was the source of their problems with sanctions.
There was already a movement towards capitalism, with private homes offering hospitality, and car owners operating as taxis, all aimed at tourists.

Basgetti Wed 14-Jan-26 11:54:25

That isn’t what the videos show at all, @menopausalbitxh?
