He has been sacked from the shadow cabinet by Kemi Badenoch. This is the statement from BBC news website:

Senior Conservative Robert Jenrick has been sacked from the shadow cabinet - and has lost the Tory Whip.
Kemi Badenoch says: "I was presented with clear, irrefutable evidence that he was plotting in secret to defect in a way designed to be as damaging as possible to his shadow cabinet colleagues and the wider Conservative Party.
"The British public are tired of political psychodrama and so am I.
"They saw too much of it in the last government, they’re seeing too much of it in THIS government."

Another ex Tory for Reform.

I wonder how many damaged goods Farage is prepared to accept. If he were to become PM it's beginning to look as though most of his Cabinet would be Tory has-beens. Not a good look for all those early true believers who will be dumped on the backbenches.

Never liked Jenrick. Kemi is right to get rid, I just wonder why he took so long to go over to Reform. He has Reform written all over him.
I am not a Tory but miss the days when a centre right Tory party was in power or opposition. Never thought I would miss the days of John Major.

Same here. I miss MP’s like Dominic Grieve, Ken Clark and Tobias Elwood. And I’m a lifelong Labour voter . Cameron called for a referendum because he was frightened of UKIP but it’s just resulted in his party morphing into them. As for Badenoch she’s just happily got rid of someone who would be challenging forher leadership.

Jenrick and Zahawi - the dynamic duo whose vanity has led them to jump ship. I'm no Tory supporter but they are surely better off without these two.

Yep whichever party inherits these two booby prizes should worry.

Proof that most politicians are in it for the power and their own advancement, they don’t give a damn for the country or the people.

I believe Reform is changing its name to ‘New Tory’.
😬

The Square Peg Party would suit them better. All the mavericks, chancers and misfits together. It will be like trying to herd cats.

MollyNew Thu 15-Jan-26 17:20:41

The current press conference is cringey. Apparently, Jenrick was the only member of the Tory government who tried to govern the country well - he was "let down" by Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak! What a load of twaddle.

And he has now joined Reform UK

Doodledog Thu 15-Jan-26 16:50:33

I'll third that.

The people Johnson sacked, although many of them might prefer retirement, would be a good opposition.

It is a long time till the next GE, so all the talk of Reform being the next government is premature. I agree that it would be a disaster for all but the young, healthy and rich.

Another 👏👏👏 for Fallingstar.
I’m not a Conservative voter but we need a good opposition, we need those one nation Tories like Heseltine, Clarke and Major.
Our country leans to the Center, sometimes center left, sometimes center right. It has a long history of rejecting extremes and the last thing we need is Farrage and his band of mavericks in charge

They say that the Tory party is a sinking ship, but I don’t believe that centrist Tory voters will all vote Reform instead. The reason why some disaffected Tories voted Labour was to send a message to the Tory party that they had moved too far to the right and they wanted them to reevaluate their values. To suggest these voters will now vote Reform makes no sense.
We need moderate centrist policies in the Tory party, not a party trying to be like Reform and looking increasingly pathetic.
We need good old fashioned centrist Tories like Heseltine and Major, even keel Tories who peddled common sense rather than populist policies.

I absolutely agree with you on this 👏👏👏

Well done Kemi 👏👏👏

She has denied him his moment of defection glory.

Taken the wind out of his inflated sails and made him look underhand and a traitor.

Sacking him won’t stop Jenrick defecting- just steals some thunder for Badenoch in the news headlines. Reform is becoming increasingly bloated with Conservative sloppy seconds.

Jenrick resigned his immigration minister role as he thought Sunak’s immigration policies didn’t go far enough. He also resigned from his Housing minister post following allegations of inappropriately approving a housing development owned by a Tory donor- who would have secured a £45 million payment if the development was approved. So Jenrick is good fit with Farage’s values and Reform ideology. But he’s ruthlessly ambitious and duplicitous; he’s built a solid social media profile, sees himself as a party leader- but lost to Badenoch.

Sparks may well fly between Jenrick, Farage and Yousef.

No, he'll go anyway and he could be quite dangerous.

Let's hope so, too many inflated egos wanting to be Top Dog.

He was Kemi's main rival and now he has gone. I didnt think much of her when she was elected (lifelong Tory that I am but always to the right) but she has come up in my estimation lately.

Well at least Kemi acts rather than waffles!

She very often seems to have no idea what she was talking about. First instance, Kemi Badenoch has said that when she was 16 and living in Nigeria she received an offer, and a partial scholarship, from a prestigious American university – most often reported as Stanford – to study a course leading towards medicine, but that her family could not afford for her to take it up. The story has attracted scrutiny because Stanford does not offer undergraduate medical degrees or “pre-med” as a standalone course, and former admissions figures have said such offers would not have been made solely on test scores without a full application. Badenoch and her allies say she received informal or provisional offers from US universities based on her exam results, but she no longer has documentation.

Did she take a leaf out of Reeves manual, how to fib to get a plumb job, that she is no good at. Looks like it.

if you are an ambitious politician, what is the point of staying with a Party that is not going to win a GE in a lifetime?

Also, there is a look of defeat on the faces of Labour Politicians; most will be out of a job soon and I expect there are those on the right of the Party who will be weighing up their options.

Iam64 Thu 15-Jan-26 13:23:40

Well done Kemi. She sounded like a leader when she spoke about this decision, .

Toad is Farage, as in Mr.Toad;
'I've only gone about the country humbugging everybody, that'all.'

Jenrick is one of the weasels.

Hahaha eazybee, well said 😂
