How long can Starmer survive? Getting popcorn ready šŸæšŸæ

It seems not very long at all! What an absolute mess he has got himself into with this Mandelson business on top of all his U turns.

He now has to release everything he knows about Mandelson and Epstein. Kemi Badendoch absolutely roasted him yesterday and his Ministers could not look at him. As usual he looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights.

On top of all this, Angela Rayner (who still has not sorted out her tax ā€œmistakeā€) is waiting in the wings. 😱 She is loving all this and ready to stab him in the back and I bet he regrets supporting her and saying how wonderful she is when she was in trouble.

Why be annoyed about the OP and the mention of popcorn, it’s just an expression and I’m thinking that if the Conservatives were in power and Badenoch was on the ropes there’d be much glee as well as popcorn.

Why are you supporting this attitude. I thought you were a Labour voter. Are you amused by what is happening?

Here we are again Maybee70 any criticism of a Labour politician brings out that response from you.
Do you know how many Labour voters are sorely disappointed to say the least in the poor performance of Starmer and Reeves in particular? A change at the top now could be just what’s needed to get Labour through the next election as long as they realise what’s needed and wanted from the electorate.
It’s been a dire 18 months for Labour.

I’m not referring to the criticism. I’m annoyed at how amusing the OP seems to find it.

I would imagine Oreo is a realist and sees the situation for what it is, rather than blindly following the party faithful, which is quite pathetic really.

I think this thread is going round in circles now, descending into mini spats, and not adding anything new. There are other Starmer threads with more up to date issues, not worth bothering here imo.

It isn’t up to a single poster when a thread should end, you don’t need to stay on this one.

The thing is that not everyone is a Labour voter and I should think quite a few people will regard the scandal/bad decisions and general infighting as amusing as they didn’t want them in power in the first place.

Why? It would affect all parties, not just Labour, so the lead could be any high profile politician,, but in my opinion not a current parliamentarian, because of their conflict of interest.

Who do you think is a replacement for Starmer if it comes to it?

Galaxy Sun 08-Feb-26 21:11:47

When Johnson was in power we had daily updates on here detailing the calamities, we had frequent 'comedic' offerings from led by donkeys, etc etc. Sorry, but as an ex labour member, I can cope with criticism of the labour party. It is the price of power.

Stay off this thread then and concentrate on the ones you think are worth bothering with.

Casdon Sun 08-Feb-26 21:19:08

You tell me who you think is best placed to lead on a strategy to reduce the risk of corruption, sleaze etc., which is specifically what we were talking about then, and which I think is really important to prevent a further Mandelson or other type of scandal repetition due to inadequate vetting, and then I’ll tell you who I think the next government leader could be if I was choosing them. Otherwise it’s just a dead cat.

Casdon Sun 08-Feb-26 21:19:39

Sorry that was to Oreo.

Yes, I remember one poster in particular who started every single day off with at least two or three posts/threads about the government of the day. Never hear from her now on the N&P threads - strange that isn't it ?

When we start getting spiky about popcorn.....

Oh Oreo but that would obviously be entirely different! šŸ˜

ā€œgleeā€ is a great word and sums up exactly how the Left behaved when ridiculing Boris and Rishi, Theresa May etc. It never let up.

Starmer is the most disliked PM ever including his own party.

Luckygirl3 Sun 08-Feb-26 22:52:29

Starmer is the most disliked PM ever - I think Johnson wins hands down on that one ...

nanna8 Sun 08-Feb-26 23:32:40

No I don’t think so. Johnson had a bit of charisma even though he was a lousy PM.

Basgetti Sun 08-Feb-26 23:35:10

Charisma? Good grief.

Nope. It's Keir. Plenty of info from both left and right wing press says the same. Easy to google.

One major polling series (Ipsos) has indicated Starmer’s satisfaction figure as lower than most PMs since the late 1970s. But independent fact-checks stress that his ratings do not conclusively beat all historical lows, especially once you compare across different polling firms and periods.

Is there a league table of "most disliked" Prime Ministers going back to Robert Walpole?
Otherwise it sounds like complete nonsense.

nanna8 Mon 09-Feb-26 05:40:32

Tell ā€˜The Times’ with all their surveys. Maybe they just made it all up ? I can’t think of a more unpopular British PM in my lifetime but I can think of a few from other countries. I think he was popular for around a month, though.

A bit of research shows it is actually since Ipsos polls started in 1977.
So 256 years unaccounted for.
Hardly justifies the word "ever" does it?

Pardon?
A dead cat to ask who you would choose to replace Starmer if push comes to shove? How so? This thread is all about him.
I know it’s difficult as it’s not a great choice unless a little known backbencher emerges from the shadows, but if the May elections bomb for Labour then replaced he will be.
Clearly Starmer isn’t the best placed to lead on anything or he wouldn’t be in the pickle of his own making.
I rate Wes Streeting but he’s young and also Yvette Cooper.
And the thing about Streeting, tho he appears sensible he was close to Mandelson. So that’s him out of the picture.
Reeves should be replaced as well as Starmer.

Casdon Mon 09-Feb-26 09:39:57

You didn’t answer my question Oreo. The point you responded on was a different one, not what was being discussed at that point in the thread.

Oreo Mon 09-Feb-26 09:45:05

No it wasn’t Casdon
I asked you a question and that was your answer.
