The post Covid legal migration number was a product of the last Conservative government Dorisdodar. Most Reform voters are former Tory voters. So yes, Reform supporters are absolutely as accountable as other voters.

The Reform Party now has 8 MPs and Labour has 404. Labour is clearly the government in power.

Read what I said again ronib. To spell it out, most Reform voters voted Tory in the previous election. The fact that they now support Reform does not absolve them for voting for a government which drastically increased legal immigration. Just as Labour voters are accountable for the actions of the current government on immigration.

I agree Reform is only popular as it seems they will address immigration. Otherwise they would not stand a chance. The two main parties just blame each other and do nothing so people are drawn to the one that says they will.

I think voters have become so disallusioned that they will now vote for other than the 2 main parties.

You’re free to disagree ronib, of course. To my mind the people who vote for a government are responsible for what the government does. You aren’t suddenly wiped clean once they are elected, or if you change your allegiance. Neither are people who were in the government when immigration was at its highest - for example Jenrick and Braverman.

But how can voters possibly know what a government with a huge majority will do? Labour has supreme control at the moment. Casdon And it wants at least another term in office.

Most people vote on the parties manifesto.

Unfortunately manifesto’s are not binding, and increasingly we see parties abandoning most of their pre election pledges along with their manifesto’s.

So no the electorate put their X’s in a box in good faith and are just as disappointed as those who didn’t vote for the government of the day.

Yes, you’re right GrannyGravy13. A government has its term in office to deliver against its manifesto, and that is what we should judge any government on after the event I think. I can’t think of any government that has not done some things that were not absolutely explicit on their manifesto and disappointed some voters as a consequence, but I think that’s the cross the people who vote for them have to bear, we need to look at the big picture rather than the minutiae to judge.

It must be very hard deciding who to vote for just now and maybe it is just as well the next election is years away. A lot will happen in the meantime but somehow with the current ministers I don’t think things will improve.

Well, with the present government, inflation has just come down, and the rate of repatriation of failed asylum seekers has increased.

I wouldn't blame a Labour voter for taking away someone's WFA, or causing so much distress to hard working farmers. Inflation might be down a bit but unemployment amongst young people stands at 16% which is not good at all.

I don’t think you can say that those people were wrong at this stage eazybee. We will however be able to judge their achievements and impacts at the end of their term, as we did with the last government. All we know at the moment is that some detrimental changes and some errors of judgement have been made, and that some positive changes have also happened.

A government operates on a mandate given by voters. Individual decisions on specific policy areas are made by any government that those who voted for them disagree with, which is not the same thing as those voters having no accountability.

With respect, eazybee, you do not know why over 9.7 million people voted Labour in 2024.

When one compares the previous GE results, you will see that 10.2 million voted Labour in 2019.

So half a million more people voted Labour in 2019 but we ended up with another five years of Tories lead by Johnson. Half a million fewer votes in 2024 and Labour wins a huge majority.

How did that happen? Reform split the right-wing vote. It’s that simple.

The FPTP system is unfair and means that the vast majority of voters are not represented in Westminster by someone they voted for.

I think most of us would like to see really radical ideas which would get us moving towards a successful economy. Please dont ask for suggestions.
Originally I was drawn towards Reform thinking a cmplete change has to be a good move. Now, with the influx of Tories that has made them unelectable for me.
