Listening to R4, Anna Foster interview David Lammy

What an imcompetent he is. He stonewalled or ignored every pertinent uestion she asked.

I fully appreciate that Foreign Secretaries cannot answer every uestion for all kinds of reasons, but I do expect them to be considerable more adroit than David Lammy in evading answering, not just standing there deadballing every uestion and speaking in a very obvious patroning voice to the silly woman asking uestions (at least that is what it sounded like). By the end it was like listeningto the sound of nails across a blackboard.

If he is like this in a public interview, is he eually irritating when talking to foreign govenments , especially when they have female ambassadors, and what harm does this do to our foreign relations.

I am watching him now being interviewed on Good Morning Britain, how on earth did he get the job 🤦‍♀️

Galaxy Fri 06-Mar-26 08:45:06

He is beyond awful.

Casdon Fri 06-Mar-26 08:48:50

David Lammy is not the Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper is?

Tuliptree Fri 06-Mar-26 08:56:01

It’s a bit rich criticising DL as Foreign Secretary when he’s Justice Secretary. How I listen to a cabinet minister is actually dependent on which brief they hold.

He is currently Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, along with being Deputy Prime Minister 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

MartavTaurus Fri 06-Mar-26 08:57:35

I thought he was Deputy PM? An even worse thought!

MartavTaurus Fri 06-Mar-26 08:58:04

Cross Post GG13.

He is doing the morning news round in his position he should be well briefed on the current situation, regardless of the position he holds…

I have never rated Lammy. But it may be that he is a better minister than communicator?

Tuliptree Fri 06-Mar-26 09:01:30

And I think he does have an irritating voice unfortunately but it’s the same whoever he talks to , male or female, in public. We’ve no idea how he sounds in private meetings.

Oreo Fri 06-Mar-26 09:04:52

Lammy is awful, how he is even in the Cabinet is a puzzle.

Tuliptree Fri 06-Mar-26 09:05:35

Nice try GG in trying to cover the pike on posters lack of knowledge

Pile not pike - duh

No, he isn't, Whitewavemark2. I have a close relative working in the Ministry for Justice. He's not up to the job according to them.

Galaxy Fri 06-Mar-26 09:07:56

He is sometimes quite odd in his interactions with women, Corbyn was the same. He was a real misogynist in the gender debate.

MT62 Fri 06-Mar-26 09:08:23

None of these Labour politicians ever answer a question fully.
PMQS is my favourite comedy at the moment.

I think that’s true across the board actually. Or perhaps you could tell me which cabinet ministers in the last government were star question answerers in the 8.10 slot.

I actually agree with GG13, that whoever is holding forth in front of the camera should be 100% articulate and well briefed.
Personally I think we have too many politicians out there having their "say" about too many things, less is more. Just choose those who know!

Oh well, there we go , your relative has spoken. S/he’s the Permanent Secretary there is s/he? And one who gossips with relatives ? Tut tut.

Not a pile on from me.

Just stating the obvious that he like others doing the morning news round was not only not on top of his own brief but woefully behind on the current situation in the ME

Tuliptree Fri 06-Mar-26 09:18:05

My point Martav is that when posters decide on a pile on, they get their facts right first and don’t try to cover their ignorance up by shifting the debate. Admit it, some posters had egg on their face but couldn’t even acknowledge it.

Oreo Fri 06-Mar-26 09:19:08

Don’t tell him your name Pike! 😂

Galaxy Fri 06-Mar-26 09:20:18

Or they might want to comment on the skills of a cabinet position whatever position he holds. I have watched Lammy for a long time, and have a particular view on him.

I may have porridge on my dressing gown, but I can assure you that I definitely do not have egg on my face
